Yankees take game 1 9-3.

Wang pitched a solid 2 innings. Rasner was shaky. Ohlendorf and Albaladejo looked good. Duncan had 5 ribbies including a monster shot. Betemit went yard. And, Jesus Montero, the kid from the dominican who just turned 18 crushed an oppo homer in his first ever ST AB.

Threw well. Hard sinker out of the back of that pen will be nice to see. I dont know if he profiles as a true setup man, though. He seems like a good guy to have out there though.

Pettitte looked same old same old. I didnt even recognize Bruney. Lost 25 pounds and now has long hair. Is throwing cheese, but is still inconsistent. He gets passed IMO.

One of the candidates for the pen had an awful day today. Steve White threw cheese but got pounded.

Good to see Giambi hitting the ball hard. The offense is certainly on track early.

Good to see Kyle Farnsworth in midseason form.

I'm hoping for a productive year from this guy.

Poor Eric Duncan. What a waste his career has been.

Not only that, but being blocked by Arod doesn't help either.

Posted
Is he still playing first most of the time? I remember they switched him over there after getting A-Rod, but he was slow to take to the transition.

You might be right. Wouldn't shock me, who knows anymore about those Seton Hall prep. kids.

Anyone watching today's game vs the Astros? It's on FSN Houston if anyone has DirecTV. Cervelli has looked pretty good behind the plate, Shelley Duncan has driven in a few runs, and Moose didn't look too bad until giving up a few runs in the 3rd.

It wont take long for Duncan to be in the everyday lineup as the starting 1st baseman

O dear God please make this happen

we said the same thing about Youkilis...

Regardless, no matter what Duncan does in ST, he'll start the yr as the righty portion of a platoon in either LF or at 1B. Depending on how he does, he could earn more PT.

Regardless, he is a big time power, good eye player. He will never hit for average.

:dunno: This must be mistake from today's box score:

NY Yankees IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA

Hughes 1.0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0.00

Patterson 1.0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0.00

Igawa 2.0 0 0 0 0 2 0 0.00

Hahaha...I thought the same thing when I saw that. The rules seem pretty lax for spring training...the Jays must have put their bat boys out there for 2 innings or something.

Joba Chamberlain pitched two innings out of the pen and allowed two runs against the Twins on Wednesday.

It was the first official outing for Joba, who was perfect for two innings in a college game last week. He gave up a two-run homer to Garrett Jones today and then drilled Matt Tolbert on the ankle with his very next pitch, earning himself some nasty looks from the Twins dugout. Chamberlain seems like an awfully nice guy off the field, but after what happened with Kevin Youkilis last year, he may be on his way to earning himself a reputation on the field.

He's young, a bit wild at times and so far, appears he can get rattled easily. The expectations placed on him after his performance last year are incredible and he will figure out how to handle it. He doesn't want a bad rep, he just needs to settle down a bit and take some of the pressure off himself. He's a gamer, intense and if he does throw some chin music from time to time, so be it. At least he is not giving into hitters.

Posted
Unhittable. He struck out the side. I mean granted it was three young guys, but with what he was throwing he could have done the same to Jeter, A-Rod, Posada or anyone.
Posted
I was really looking forward to seeing him pitch last year. After he eventually signed the Rays originally assigned him to Hudson Valley of the NY-Penn League where I was interning, but he got there and then at the last minute they sent him out to Columbus. He did look pretty good today though. It'll be interesting to see how he develops in the coming years.
