I agree. I still wonder if there was some tampering involved or something and that the FO had to move on him once he was convinced that he'd be able to command so much as a FA...I mean his year with the Dodgers was good' date=' but not $14m per for 5 yrs kinda good, IMO. So how'd he and his agent know those $ were attainable?[/quote']

Do you think Torii Hunter and Gary Matthews Jr. are worth their contracts? How about Gil Meche?

With the M's wrapping up their persuit of Wilkerson today (rotoworld), I would guess that that dramatically increases the liklihood of Trot Nixon/Red Sox reunion. Who gets 7?

tommy

its not a matter of hate with me

its just the fact that he did live up to our low expectations making us all geniouses

in the 5 hole in boston you should have 100rbi by accident

he'll improve this year, winning the series takes s lot of pressure off of everyone and him specifically

If Nixon comes back he'd have to get #7. Drew should take #43 in honor of the ground out to second, assuming of course he couldn't get a backwards K.

Drew is one of the most talented players in baseball and I feel he could hit 30 out with ease if he really tried to. He won't though, it's not a contract year.

Possibly, if he is healthy. He only hit 30+ once, when he hit 31 in 2004 with 518 AB, the only time he had 500+. I'm not sure he could do it with ease.

The only good thing about Nixon coming back would be if he gave JD "Trots magical sports drink" to beef him up... I joke I joke...

Or give him the # 4 for the GS he hit to help the Sox on the path to another WS title.

If this is the best we can expect from you, you might as well go join the Drew haters at Dodger blues...

Any fan with half a brain knows Drew was one of the Cogs for the Championship. Ya he didn't live up to some expectations(and I expect him to have a better season this yr) during the reg season. But he came threw in the PO. And I'll take that over someone whos reg season stats are bigger but disappears in the post season.

N...N...N...N...NL.

Drew batted .222 in Interleague play that year despite facing some fairly weak AL teams. 11 of his 31 HR came vs. two teams, the talent-bereft 2004 Marlins and the hapless 2004 Nats.

Drew's best year came at age 25...he had more PA at age 28 in 2004, but his SLG was almost 50 points higher in 2001.

Perhaps Drew used PEDs, but it looks to me more as if he dropped when he came to the AL. YMMV.

Who said anything about anyone being worth their contract? I know I didn't.

But since you raise the issue, Meche is irrelavant since he's a pitcher...Hunter is irrelevant because his FA contract took place a full year later and clearly reflects the contracts of those before him.

Specifically talking about the season Drew had, the seasons he had prior, the proneness to injury and the option that was on the table...no one in baseball thought he was worth more than the option on the table...yet he far exceeded his option $ AND got a extra years.

Well no one except he and Boras...Boras had said "It was a business decision, the demand for a five-tool defender, a 25-homer guy, a guy who can drive in 100 runs is pretty clear in today's marketplace."

Uhhh, right...the guy exceeded 20 hrs only twice and reached 100 rbi's once. And his declaration of FA took place before Matthews signed his contract so you can't say that factored into his declining the option. I remain skeptical as to how they KNEW they'd get a better offer than the $33m remaining from the Dodgers.

It's too bad he's a china doll because if he played a full season his numbers would be decent.

If you can abide it, let the hurdy-gurdy play, Stranger ones have come by here before they flew away

JD's only fractured, and just a little nervous from the fall.
