It doesnt really make much sense. Mathews is on of the better defensive OFers in the game and now he moves to DH so Anderson can gimp around LF? Regardless, Hunter is the bat they were looking for and all they had to give up was a 1st rounder.

I think rather that Matthews Jr will shift over to Left Field and have the aging Anderson as the DH... Thats if Sciossa is smart about it.

 

This move might still set up a Miguel Cabrera trade. Reggie Willits will now be lost looking for playing time (Marlins looking for a center fielder), also the Garland trade gives them a surplus of starting pitchers

Santanna/Weaver/Adhart+Willtis+Wood/Aybar/Kendrick Any combo of that and thats a pretty sweet package for Miggy and just what the Marlins will be lookig for. Plus now with the OF and IF basically filled(unless Kendrick is part of the deal) so Fiffons could be expendable as well.

 

If LAA gets Miggy to add to there already lineup with Hunter as well and there SP, LAA is arguably the best team in the league...

The way salary's are moving up - Drew signing will be reasonable in another year and Manny's option will look like real bargain. May be after 7 years A-Rod will regret that he did not put an opt out clause.

Solid move by the Angels. Right now they're looking to be right up there with the Yankees and the Red Sox in 2008.

 

I'm looking at Vlad Guerrero becoming pretty much a full-time DH. He's hit slightly better as a DH than as a RF over his career, so there's no issue regarding an inability to perform as a DH. Getting him out of right field diminishes injury risk, and his bat is crucial to the Angels' chances.

That's a minority view but a good point, IMO.

 

A question, though: don't you think that the Angels can contend for a year or two or three with the outfield and team that they're assembling?

They can contend. I do feel their pitching, especially the BP, is overrated.

They have Lackey and Weaver and everyone else. Colon is gone, Santana is ineffective, and Saunders/Moseley/everyone else is inexperienced. I doubt Escobar will replicate his career year last year. Their pen was somewhat shaky last year with Shields suddenly being unable to record outs, but Speier has been dominant.
