Smart move by the Yankees to pick up Bobby Abreu's option. He is a terrific player all-around whose ability to accrue quality at-bats, even if he doesn't always get on base, is nearly unmatched. There's one fewer need for the offseason.

I don't think this move gets the credit it deserves.

 

Obviously it's a no brainer. 1 year and $16 million is a really good value IMO. Abreu is clearly in the decline phase of his career, but he's also very clearly a very productive bat and a capable outfielder for 1 more year.

Then perhaps people shouldn't have boo'd him every opportunity they had his first few years in NY? From my perspective it was the majority of Yankee fans that were the f***in jerks, and the media just piled on after that.
