I don't know why I didn't list it previously, because i could never forget the thrill it gave everyone in Fenway. Before game 2 of the August 17th Day/Night Double Header (Jimmy Fund Telethon Day), that cancer survivor kid circled the bases with a huge smile on his face. Everyone was cheering him on and praying that he would make it all the way. It gave me chills up and down my spine. It was an unbelievable moment of triumph. God Bless the Red Sox and their generous fans for their affiliation with the Jimmy Fund.

P.S. Gagne had to ruin an otherwise perfect day. Bucholz had won his debut in the afternoon game. The little boy triumphed over cancer in his trip around the bases, the telethon broke records, Beckett looked dominant, and Ortiz and Manny spanked KRod to take the lead in the nigh cap. Gagne was dead to me from that point on.

I was at that game and that was a pretty special moment. The game itself was a very good one, until Gagne came in. That was pretty dejecting, but the comeback was impressive.

That kid was priceless though. Good call.

Gagne was so bad pitch after pitch that I thought he would get lynched as he left Fenway. Do you remember that some guy threw a water bottle from the left field seats that landed by the pitchers mound. It seemed to shake up Gagne a good bit. The jerk that threw it had better aim than Gagne.

I remember it, though I didn't see the water bottle. I was in the CF bleachers. Gagne actually looked decent, but he had that long at bat to (...opens recesses of useless baseball knowledge) Willits, I think, which he lost when Willits got a base hit. Gagne got the first out, IIRC, and then started to struggle. That was NOT a highlight of the year.

I thought he'd be okay after that, but then he walked Kotchman and the wheels came off. It was a strange day and night. It was extremely memorable for Bucholz debut in the afternoon, Beckett's dominance, and the comeback against KRod, but everyone left deflated after the implosion by Gagne and the realization by many of us that he couldn't be trusted in a big spot.

Clay's No-Hitter

The emergence of Jacoby

ALCS Comeback

World Series Sweep

What sucked for me was that I had missed Games 2-6 of the ALCS because the damn cruise ship I was on had it's satellite knocked out. So I'd have to wait and wait to find out who won. I was lucky some nights to find that hte BBC channel actually reported the results. Each time I heard Cleveland was winning, I was thinking "Oh s***." Then when they had come back I was thinking "f***ing yes!". FINALLY we had good reception for Game 7, so I sat in this lobby of the ship with some other people, mostly old guys who have nothing better to do than waste money on a cruise (maybe Fred was there). I was sitting next to a guy who was a Cleveland fan and he looked to his friends and said "I bet Ted Williams can finally rest easy now." I then though about 1948 and realized, he sure could. Then when Coco made that leap of faith and based into the centerfield wall, just, the greatest thing ever.

I'd have to go with game 5 of the ALCS in Cleveland. The way Becket dominated, and the way the Redsox played with so much composure it almost seemed as if they werer up 3-1. After the Redsox won that game I never had a doubt.
