Looks like Donnie is out of the fold. He does not want to accept another position in the organization. Girardi is the right man for this team.

I continue to think that this team is being built with rebuilding in mind. They set a hard line on ARod, they get rid of Torre and now bring in a guy who is wonderful with the young players. I have a feeling Mo, Posada, Pettitte are following ARod out the door. GET THE PICKS!!

More great news for Red Sox fans. He is a hot headed guy with little patience. That should work in NY. Mattingly will now go home to Nebraska or whereever he calls home. The only thing that concerns me is that the Yankees will be getting rid of both Black clouds (ARod and Matingly) at the same time.

ARod left Seattle and they won 116 games. ARod left Texas and they nearly made the playoffs.

Donnie retired and we won it all.

You may be onto something here.

In all honesty, the sox dont need to look at the yankees yr in and yr out anymore. The sox are the model that all teams will try to build similar to. In 2004, you outmuscled other teams with Schilling, Pedro and Lowe. But this yr, you beat teams with a solid rotation led by a lights out ace, a solid pen built from within, and a lineup jump started by home grown players. Congrats. You are on the top of the mountain. Trust me on this one, it dont last nearly long enough.

hahahaha.

I think it is time to face reality here as a yankee fan.

Torre leaves. He was the glue that held the veterans together but had a penchant for sucking as a manager and killing the younger players.

We get a manager who played with many of the veterans and is better known for getting the most out of his younger players than he is for relaxing his veterans.

We draw a hard line in the sand with our superstar over contract negotiations.

We havent heard s*** about the negotiations with our other FAs and even though we have heard that the yankees will be picking up Abreu's option for weeks now, nothing has been finalized.

Cashman finally has ownership backing and I think he wants a clean house. With all of the young players already here and with the multitude of players coming down the pipe, I wouldnt be surprised if we are gonna go into shutdown mode for a season. Most rebuilding teams take 5 yrs. We can do it in 1 if we do it right.

Bill Simmons calls it the Patrick Ewing Theory.

he will be?

The biggest part of a rebuild is getting your pitching in order. Our rookies now have some significant MLB experience and typically have a rough first full season. I have a feeling that by the time our magic number is extinguished come the fall of next yr, we will be looking forward with lots of positivity in the pitching department. We have shown that we could buy hitting, but the pitching was what you cannot buy.

If you look at him objectively (that's tough for yankee fans when it comes to Jeter), he has lost a step. His range is already very limited. In 2 years, that step will not come back. He's more likely to lose another half step or whole step.

I was saying he "will" be, implying that he already is. The phrase I get a kick out of most is "past a diving Jeter". Most SS's worth their salt dont even need to dive to get to balls that he doesnt.

Oh, I missed the obvious sarcasm :D . I am still a bit hung over.

You know, this is not the demise of the Yankees as everyone keeps predicting. This is a team that had an opening day rotation of Wang, Pettitte, Mussina, Igawa, and Pavano.

We go into next season with Wang, Pettitte, Hughes, Chamberlain, and Kennedy.

This is still a 90 win team. If the Yankee young guns live up to the hype, Arod will be a distant memory come this time next year.

Big if, though.

Do so many people really believe that the Yankees WON'T contend next season?

While I am disappointed in losing Mattingly (I dont mind Girardi at all, although I slightly preferred Mattingly), I think we'll be fine under Girardi. My biggest concern is how the (remaining) vets will respond to him. Hopefully all is well.

I'm curious to get an idea of who will be joining the coaching staff.

You know what nobody has realized yet?

Torre is rumored to be the next Dodger manager.

Scott Proctor is sharpening the blade he will use for ritual seppaku.

He must think he's cursed. His elbow starts to hurt when he hears the name "Torre"

hahaha lol

Watch Mattingly follow him out there (His son Preston is in the organization too), followed by A-Rod, Kevin Long, Mo........etc. lol

Apparently, Girardi has agreed to manage the Yankees and Torre is expected to manage the Dodgers next year with Mattingly following him as his bench coach

The Dodgers are a funny team. After filling up with all Red Sox veteran players/coaches(Lowe, Nomar, Muller, Little) - they are gonna have the Yankees now. Let's see if Mo/Posada/Pettitte follows their coaches.

wow just saw that Paulie told 1050 ESPN Radio that he would discuss a coaching position with Girardi!!!!

That would be nice. So far we've got Rob Thompson (3B or Bench), Tony Pena (1B?) Kevin Long? and Paulie would be a nice addittion as well. I'm anxious to see who else we they get to fill out the staff.
