If the Guardians light up Wang again, the Yankees will still manage to outscore them, because Byrd stinks.

It could be argued that Wang will benefit from starting on short rest.

Yep, and it could be argued the reason he got lit up the other night is because he had too much rest.

If Wedge is content on punting this game (and by all reports, he is) then he needs to punt it all the way. He can't bring in Perez or Betancourt.

Let Borowski get lit up after Byrd. Save the stud for Game 5, which was apparently the plan all along.

If this was a 3-2 lead in the world series, there is absolutely no way he starts Byrd. None. He'd go Sabathia then Carmona. But instead, he is managing for the ALCS which typically comes back to bite you in the ass.

I don't get this decision. They have two very good SPs, but they will only get 3 starts out of them. Sure, both could pitch in game 5, which will happen with Byrd going, but what good is that? Carmona only sees a second game of the series if CC sucks, and that's in the all or nothing game. Makes zero sense.

I agree, Kilo. If they are going to punt, they need to punt all the way.

I'm not sure I'm sold on the 3 days of rest thing being "good" for a sinkerballer. One of Wang's issues this year was fatigue in games. He held the opposition down fairly well for the first 75 or so pitches, but the OPSA jumped about .150 from 76-100. That fatigue point will only come sooner with less rest. Cleveland needs to try and wait him out early like they did in game one. Where the ump's bottom of the zone is will be crucial to the Tribe keeping pace with what they do to Byrd.

While I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment, Wang's most recent struggles have had nothing to do with fatigue IMO. His last start is a great example. The guy threw maybe one or two sinkers under 93 mph and he sat 95 the entire game. But everything was way up. The thinking is that with a bit less velocity, there will be more movement and the ball will stay down. It sounds equally plausible and stupid. We'll see who is right.

The better argument is that Wang will benefit from opposing Byrd who has lost something like 7 in a row against the Yanks.

If both pitchers pitch poorly, and the game is close late, I think you would have to give the advantage to the Guardians, because they have a well rested Rafael Perez and Rafael Betancourt. Assuming Joba isn't available, the Yankees have very little reliable bullpen help before Rivera.

Wang needs to hold up his end tonight.

It could be argued that you guys are running out of arguments.

If Wedge had any balls he'd throw Sabathia on three day's rest.

There can be no doubt about this statement. He better be planning on using BOTH Sabathia and Carmona in a game 5.

Sabathia was one bad pitch away from letting the Yankees blow the game open (if I recall correctly, he loaded the bases with one out and got two huge outs in the fifth). Carmona did a much better job at shutting down the Yankees than Sabathia did, and if CC starts Game 5, I think that Wedge is pretty much conceding the series.

Sabathia on three days' rest sounds like a better idea.

Joba is available for an inning tonight if need be, but if this game comes to that the Yankees will be in trouble. They could still pull out the win tonight, but really hamstring themselves in Game 5.

But whatever, just get to Game 5 and I'll be happy. I like Wang tonight, much more confident than I was going into Game 1.

Well despite the series loss I can say I'm glad I was there last night. I'll always appreciate the fact that not only was I there for his 300th win, but also his last pitch thrown. Me and my friend were the only *******s in our section applauding Rog' when he walked off last night. To be there for his last start and get to see him walk off the mound for (hopefully) the last time is special. I'll always be thankful for the memories he gave me, and am so grateful he came back this year so that he could go out in pinstripes on the Yankee Stadium mound..the way it was supposed to be.

f*** the rest of the team though...this is ********!!! I know this is the thread for yesterdays game...which was unbelievably frustrating to watch from the upper deck (0-2 clap, 1-2 clap, 2-2 clap, 3-2 clap, ball 4 sit down just to do it all over again), but idk what to do....what should I do? Why cant we win a f***ing series?

He hasn't thrown his last pitch yet, by next week he'll be pitching Kotex. He'll be going swimming, horseback riding...

So you're applauding Roger for his effort and criticizing everyone else's?

Fantastic.
