Scott Proctor, meet Todd motha'-f***in' Helton. Two run shot, 6-3 Rockies! I love this team.

edit: 10-3... this Rockies team is insanely good with RISP.

I wouldn't call the 78 Red Sox losing the division the greatest regular season collaspe in history. That belongs to the 64 Phillies in my opinion. But if the don't make it to the postseason this is probably worse.

1978 Red Sox: lost a 14-game lead with two months to go.

1964 Phillies: lost a 6-game lead with 12 games to go.

2007 Mets: lost a 7-game lead with 17 to go.

SIDE NOTE: The DBacks with a win can make the NL West a two-team race. But then again, momentum is on the Rockies' side.

the 1914 braves had the biggest comeback i read today

some of these teams choked

some collapsed like the b'js in 87 losing 4 in a row to close the season with a 4 game lead

the 95 angels meltdown was impressive

in 05 i caught a bad line on the chisox who on 8/1 were only 160/100 to win the central with a 14 game lead

i put a grand on them and was nearly catatonic when the lead was 1.5 with cleveland coming in for 3 to close the season out

they survived but i lost a few years of my life those last 2 weeks

baseball is unique in its length

i called this race over 6 weeks ago and i was premature and i knew it but i based this on our starting pitching and our schedule

you cant handicap intangibles in a pennant race because momentum and injuries are not easy to predict

it seems every year someone either gags or comes close to gagging what was an insurmountable lead...detroit was the best team in the game last year for 5.5 months and ended up with the wildcard....

i want the phils in the nl east and the rox in the west with the pads getting the w/card

i dont really care but i do like those pretensious ****ing mets fans to suffer

The Miracle Braves were 15 out on the Fourth of July (26-40) and finished the season 68-19 to win the pennant by 10½ games. That's one hell of a comeback.

Rockies playoff chances seriously hurt.

Mets on verge of greatest choke job ever.

PS Congrats Chicago, the first team in the field from the NL.

Unfortunately the Rockies chances did take a hit today. They need some serious help from here on out. Still a valiant effort from a young team -- it's very admirable what they were able to do and for the first time in a while, the Rockies future looks extremely bright.

The Mets are hysterical. I'm really expecting to have far fewer friends and a lot of funerals to go to by Monday. They have to win out and get some help. Unreal.

Colorado is in if they win out and San Diego loses tomorrow, right?

Has to be, their elim# is 1 from the WC race. Up 11-1 over the Snakes right now. Meaningful games on the last day of the season are fun.

If the Rockies win tomorrow and SD loses they get, at least, a one game playoff. Whether it happens or not, this team played extremely admirably down the stretch and it's the first time in a long time you really feel proud to be a Rockies fan. I've watched far more Rockies games than Sox games in the past and it's great to see them playing meaningful games for the first time in a long time.

Glavine recorded 1 out in the 1st.

5-0 Marlins with the sacks full, and still only that one out. Sosa in to pitch for the Mets.

Rockies chances look pretty good now if they can get some runs across. Padres are down 2 and the Brewers are threatening to tack on some more runs.

edit: Rockies rookie pitcher just had his no hitter broken up in the sixth. Big time performance by a rookie in a game the Rockies need. Now if the offense could get going...

My heart goes out to all the Mets fans out there, who I imagine are pretty torn up about their late season swoon. There is something f***ed up about a system that lets the Cubs in with a near .500 mark and excludes a team that led the division all year; I understand and embrace the system, but I'm sure that thought is going through some Mets fans heads.

Hey Mets fans. Don't boo Jose Reyes. Seriously, if you don't want him I can think of some teams that would. He's clearly a good player. Get off his case.
