Kansas's in conference schedule is much' date=' much better than Hawaii's, even without playing Oklahoma or Texas.[/quote']

But the fact remains that they haven't beaten anybody. At least Hawaii has, and they haven't lost, either. Which win makes them the #5 team? That game they barely won in Manhattan against 5-7 Kansas State*? The game they won against Colorado only because both teams couldn't lose (I watched that game and that was very much the case)? 6-6 Oklahoma State? 5-7 Nebraska? A&M?

At least Hawaii has Boise State. In a year where teams are being rewarded for not losing (Ohio State), why not Hawaii?

*Kansas State, perhaps Kansas' most impressive win because they were #24 at the time, got manhandled by the WAC's own Fresno State.

Hawaii should at least get some votes for #1 if they beat the Huskies on Saturday and win their bowl game' date=' ? la Boise State last year.[/quote']

Depends on who they play in their bowl.

Fact is, Colorado beat Oklahoma. KSU beat Texas. KU beat both of those teams.

Colorado beat Oklahoma and KSU beat Texas... the week before OU and Texas played one another. You don't think that played into it a bit? I've watched Colorado a number of times... I watched them struggle against Colorado State, possibly the worst team in the country. They are not good. Besides, Stanford beat USC... does that make them good? App State beat Michigan... are they anything more than a good 1-AA team?

Kansas hasn't beaten a top 25 team... they haven't beat a team that's anywhere NEAR the top 25. Beating Boise State is way more impressive than anybody that Kansas has beat... and the score doesn't indicate how much better Missouri was than Kansas.

I don't see how you can hold Hawaii's strength of schedule against them where big conference teams are scared to go play them.

Besides, as I said... in a season in which teams are being rewarded for NOT LOSING... how can you punish an undefeated team?

Posted

The point is that a team is being punished for not playing anybody when they actively go out and try to play good teams, but the good teams are too afraid to play them, even when offered $750k.

In a nutshell... Hawaii wanted to start their season in Ann Arbor, but Michigan wanted no part of them, and scheduled App State instead. Hawaii was scheduled to play Michigan State... but the Spartans paid $250k to cancel the game. So what did Hawaii do? They tried to replace the Spartans with the Trojans... the USC Trojans... but USC would have no part in that either. Because Michigan State got out as late as they did, it left Hawaii scrambling for an opponent. Besides, Kansas' schedule is every bit as bad.

How do you penalize this team? They'll play anybody that's willing to play them... but the "better teams" are too scared to play them.

I'm not sure all of the rules regarding the bowl games but here's what I know for sure, based on who I think will win in conference Championship games.

Ohio State will play West Virginia in the National Championship game.

LSU will play in the Sugar Bowl. I say will because I think they will win the SEC.

USC will play in the Rose Bowl... probably against Georgia since I think Rose Bowl would get first pick and there's absolutely no reason for them not to take Georgia considering how well they travel and would be ranked #3.

Virginia Tech will play in the Orange Bowl. I think they beat Boston College this time around.

Oklahoma will play in the Fiesta Bowl, since I think they'll win the Big XII.

I think, faced with the decision to pick Mizzou or Kansas, Missouri plays in a BCS Bowl, leaving Kansas the odd man out from the Big XII since a conference can only have two representatives. I think the Orange Bowl gets the next pick, and at this point, all better choices are already locked into bowl games, so the Orange Bowl takes Missouri.

The Fiesta Bowl gets next at-large pick, and they turn down the opportunity to pit Oklahoma against ANOTHER WAC team because Arizona State is guaranteed to travel better than Hawaii because, well, they don't even have to travel!

The Sugar Bowl, getting the last pick, takes Hawaii, who beats Washington in the final week.

So here you have it... winners in bold.

Championship - West Virginia vs. Ohio State

Rose Bowl - USC vs. Georgia

Orange Bowl - Virginia Tech vs. Missouri

Fiesta Bowl - Oklahoma vs. Arizona State

Sugar Bowl - LSU vs. Hawaii

Did something change? I thought the Championship game was one of those 4 bowl games, with it being on a 4-year rotation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowl_Championship_Series#BCS_bowl_games

In the current BCS format, four bowl games and the National Championship Game are considered "BCS bowl games". The four bowl games are the Rose Bowl Game in Pasadena, the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, and the Orange Bowl in Miami. In the first eight seasons of the BCS contract, the championship game was rotated among the four bowls; for example, the Sugar Bowl would have the national championship "weight" once every four years. Starting with the 2007 BCS, the site of the game that served as the last game on January 1 (or if January 1 fell on a Sunday, January 2) in the BCS will now serve as the host facility of the new stand-alone BCS National Championship game played on January 8 of that year, one week following the playing of the traditional bowl game which would follow the Rose Bowl with the exception of the games to be played in 2010. There are also twenty-seven non-BCS bowls.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BCS_National_Championship_Game

Beginning with the 2006 season, the National Championship Game became a separate event from the host bowl played at the same site as the host one week after New Year's Day. The game's location will rotate between the sites of the BCS bowls; note that the date of the game occurs in the calendar year following the corresponding NCAA football season

back in the old days it was the cotton bowl that swayed more influence than the fiesta bowl but due to the southwest conference being unable to keep their teams from cheating the entire conference got split up.

the fiesta bowl then supplanted the cotton as a major

Last year was the first year of the Championship game being it's own seperate thing. Remember, the game was played in Glendale, Arizona. The Fiesta Bowl was also played in Glendale, Arizona (Oklahoma vs. Boise State). I guess what they're doing is alternating which bowl game or bowl game's city will host the game. For instance, while last year they played it in the stadium where the Fiesta Bowl is played, this year they're playing it in New Orleans, where the Sugar Bowl is played. They figured out a way to squeeze a tad bit more revenue out of the current system without going to a playoff.

I think another benefit is that it lets the BCS Bowl Games keep their conference ties as much as possible.

But yeah, there's five BCS bowls, now. The Championship game being completely seperate from the other four.

WEEI is reporting that Tom Osbourne has named himself interem head coach for Nebraska. I figured he would do this until they get a new coach so that he can recuit....the top 2 candidates (no surprise) are:

Bo Pelini: DC for LSU and former DC/Interim HC for Nebraska

Turner Gill: Former Nebraska player and coch..he left during Callahan's first year because he didn't like the new direction of the team. Current Buffalo HC

Hope Nebraska gets their asses kicked under Osbourne.

Please, Nebraska, get someone who'll go back to your schools running ways -- at the very least, it made you interesting and gave you an identity.

why would anyone leave lsu where the recruits come to you as opposed to you going to them

if lsu keeps 75% of their blue chips in Iberia they compete for the sec crown and hence forth the national title

of course the maize and blue beckon les miles

110k people every saturday is enough to get anyone excited and all he has to do is be better than that stiff lloyd carr and they'll have actually beat ohio state and compete for the big 10 and hence forth by bidding for the national title as well.

Today is Karl Dorrell's last game in Westwood. How he managed to beat the Trojans last year' date=' I'll never know.[/quote']

That makes two of us.

Les Miles is the man, I like how pissed off he sounded at the media for having to deny the rumors.
