Kentucky can mother effing play. When they ran roughshod over Louisville, I thought, so what, L'ville has no D. I still don't think they win this game, but 17-14 nearing the half against LSU is impressive.

Looks like Mark "Dirty" Sanchez is not the next coming. Two picks, no TDs with USC down 13-10 in the 3rd.

Woodson has impressed me. His stock keeps increasing week after week. Anyone think he could rate as the No. 1 pick by season's end?

Both found pay-dirt, so they're off to 2 OT.

Maybe, tough call though. LSU lost on the road to tough team in 3 OT and has already beat Florida and South Carolina, two pretty good teams. Personally, I think top-20 undefeateds should get the nod over the teams with losses, but I also think LSU would beat BC.

Wow. Cal also lost. My predictions for next week's 1-10 (I know it's a flawed system and that some of the teams shouldn't be this high at all, but like I said, it's flawed):

1. Ohio State

2. Boston College (they very well may be -- and they shouldn't be that high; at least for now)

3. Oklahoma

4. South Florida

5. Kentucky

6. South Carolina

7. Oregon

8. West Virginia

9. USC

10. LSU

LSU won't fall to 10 if they lost to the #5 team in Triple OT.

By the way, how predictable was that fourth and two play?

Some University of Illinois fans I know are starting to compile the database for the 2009 version of the FireRonZook.com* website. Twice today he outsmarted himself by turning down penalties on third down by my Hawkeyes.

1) Good point. Whatever, rankings suck, lol.

2) Almost as predictable as Trot Nixon getting the game-winning RBI last night.

Polls came out. Here are the top 10:

1) Ohio State

2) South Florida (well-deserved too -- beating Auburn on the road and West Virginia)

3) Boston College

4) Oklahoma

5) LSU

6) South Carolina

7) Oregon

8) Kentucky

9) West Virginia

10) California

Also of note: Michigan re-enters the polls at #24 after winning 5 straight to bring their record to 5-2.

I was joking with a friend at work that I should put $100 on Michigan to win the Big Ten... I sure as hell wish I had, now.

That may be the worst top five in the history of rankings. I think BC should be around 10, USF in the 10-17 range, and Ohio State at about six or so... but given the mayhem that's happened this year, they have to be #1, 2, and 3. Easily the worst 1-3 ever. Ohio State hasn't played anyone and they're the #1? Wow. Has to be that way, I guess.

If BC goes undefeated through their upcoming schedule, they'll deserve that top-5 ranking. Right now though? No way. I think South Florida does deserve to be that high though. Beating Auburn on the road and then taking care of business against West Virginia? Impressive. Of the current top-5 teams, they put the wrong team as #1. South Florida should definitely occupy that top spot out of the teams that are ranked that high. If you're going to have this Top 5, it should definitely be in this order: South Florida, Ohio State, Boston College, Oklahoma, LSU.

The rankings just show how much of a cluster f*** the BCS is.

as i think about bc over the last 30 years and their matchups against what is perceived to be the iron of football i feel fine about our ranking.

lets start with their schedule and how these teams fared over the last 25 years

notre dame..fla st..clemson miami and gtech all won the ncaa championship with miami and fla state doing it more than once since 1983.

va tech played for it all as well.

these schedules are drawn up years in advance

you cant cherry pick the teams you play in your league.

opening up with the orange bowl and acc champs, then your old coach comes to play then the league runners up in their building and coming out 3-0 is what made them respectable.

the last 4 wins were all winnable and finally, they didnt gag one of these games up.

they played umass army and bowling green

bad for the polls, good for the bankbook

next week they play va tech there...big game,if they win there they may vault to the promised land..

i never had any false hope for this program and the s*** bag facilities they have to deal with in newton.they arent a big time football school for this reason...

all i wanted was a final 4 in hoop and a bcs game in football and the hockey team handles themselves.

south fla and ohio st?

they dont scare me

lsu fla oklahoma on the other hand do...

does anyone think colt brennan will actually be anything at the next level?

I thought so coming into this year but he hasn't been all that great, and has thrown a lot of INT's.

I'll say this, I do think he's a much better QB than Timmy Chang was when he was at Hawaii.

Posted

He has a live arm and is very athletic, but he has a side arm whippy release. He looks like a real gamer here but he plays way too fast and loose / helter skelter. He is fun to watch but he will be a major project at the next level. He actually reminds me of JP Losman.

He only has a 2:1 TD:INT ratio so far this year. That's not good.

Yeah he eneded up with some big stats in the San Jose game, but he made a lot of dumb plays too.

colt brennan

a good name for a qb...colt

heres a few others who had some amazing #s

kliff kingsbury

david klingler

sonny cumbie

andre ware

the 2 okie qbs heipl and hybyl or something like that?

both these kids were supposed to be nfl material.....

if you noticed all these kids went to school in the southwest and played for teams like houston, who scored 100 a game under jack pardee,or ttech where they throw 75 passes a game or even the okie kids played in some blood bathed 60-70 point asswhoopins..

give me the kid who plays in the proset offense in front of 100,000 people every weekend against legit defenses over these #s machines all day long

Posted

and i didnt even mention 1 qb from BYU in this madness

from mark wilson to ty detmer the byu kids shattered each others records but outside steve young and a couple of decent years jim mcmahon had these guys werent effective at the next level...

wheres robbie bosco these days?

Boy, Rutgers let it all hang out, didn't they?

Great job by the Scarlet Knights, and especially Coach Greg Schiano.

USF is still a damn good team, but Rugers was clearly the better team Thursday night.

Both these teams still have a lot to look forward to this season. The Big East's BCS spot is totally up for grabs right now.

Nah UConn's got that on lockdown.

Down goes USF. LSU vs. Boston College is my pick for the Championship game at this point.

BC has no competition in the ACC!! AT ALL. And im a HUGE ACC fan. My team sucks in the ACC (NC State) lol. But cmon... I think its hilarious that we (NC State) gets Tom OBrien, BC's old coach, and now BC is ranked so high. They are still playing with OBrien's players. I dont think theres a loyal following of BC up in the new england area. At least not from my standpoint.

college athletics are at the bottom of the sports barrel here in boston

perhaps thats because all our pro teams look so good these days

perhaps its because the citizens of newton hate the catholic hordes who decend on them on fall saturdays.

they need another venue and that aint happenin in my lifetime.

i love bc sports but they play in a horrible stadium with little game day atmosphere unless you call drinking at joeys pub on market street till game time and taking a cab over to commonwealth ave is your type of tail gating.

they sell out pretty much every game
