Boston Red Sox (79-51) @ Chicago White Sox (56-73)

Yesterday, Tim Wakefield tied Josh Beckett for the league lead in wins.

Bobby Kielty began to make a name for himself, and Mike Lowell continued his hot streak.

Today, Julian makes it a sweep and we head into the Bronx with at least a 6 game lead.

WIN.

Javier Vazquez (11-6, 3.66 ERA), the team leader in wins and the only White Sox pitcher to beat Boston this season, can help Chicago halt a four-game slide that is part of a woeful 2-12 stretch.

Vazquez recorded Chicago's lone win against the Red Sox this season on July 19, allowing two runs and nine hits in 6 1-3 innings. He has struggled against Lowell, though, allowing the third baseman to hit .302 against him with two home runs in 43 at-bats.

The right-hander has been one of the few bright spots for the White Sox recently, going 8-1 with a 3.09 ERA in his last 11 starts.

Obviously, I wish we had Lester going. But these are the strange games Tavarez usually pulls something out of his ass to keep us close. Then it will be a battle of the bullpens - aw s***, we gonna sweep!

A good eye is one thing, but I get the sense Youks is up there fishing for walks. He gets rung up looking far too often.

What a joke of a series. Great to see the offense come alive...but the White Sox really aren't much more than a Triple-A team at this point. Must be hard to be a White Sox fan right now with all this s*** going down.

This Papelbon kid's good. This whole series felt like Groundhog's Day.

7.5 with a day off heading into the Yankees series. And with the Yankees throwing Mussina tomorrow against Verlander, I like our chances of it being 8.

Verlander hasn't been much better recently. He and Bonderman are showing signs of wearing down again, so I wouldn't chalk one up for the Tigers just yet, although it would be great.

Great win today. As hard as it is listening to 'the hawk' do the broadcast (he is far and away the worst broadcaster/homer going) it was nice and silent today with the whipping we have put on them this series. JT with another nice outing and keilty doing his best to make sure JD is riding the bench in the future....nice win.

Let's hope we have a good rest day while the yanks go 18innings and lose! Of all the playoff contenders, only the angels are looking good right now; Seattle, Detroit, Cleveland, and the yanks are swooning!

What a game, what a series, what a month this has been for the Sox. They are now 15-9 in the month of August, and 25-12 in their last 37 games. Tavarez stepped up big again, and Kielty is looking more and more like a bat you want off of the bench. I am psyched for the Sox/Yanks series. I'll be sitting in left field for game 1 :)
