This from tonight's game notes on CBSSportsline.com:

Red Sox RHP Curt Schilling has spoken highly about Tampa Bay starters Scott Kazmir and James Shields, and on his weekly show on WEEI-Radio in Boston said if an ideal situation came about he would consider joining the Devil Rays next year. "You know it's one of those situations you certainly look at," Schilling said. "If circumstances were to happen and they were to make some moves that were positive, I'd love nothing more than to finish my career working on a pitching staff where I know that there were young guys that were going to be positively impacted by me being around."

Good ole Curt...he has such a high opinion of himself' date=' no?[/quote']

well, he does have a point. he is a borderline hall of fame pitcher who prepares for opponents like no other pitcher

I give him credit for wanting to help a losing team improve. A lot of players will only sign with a team that has a chance to get to the World Series.

Not to mention he helped the Sox win the 2004 WS.....

if he wants to do tampa a favor he will sign somewhere else

a team with a 24M payroll shouldnt spend 1/2 of it on a 42year old guy who doesnt come to camp in shape.

if the guy came to ft meyers in shape this spring he wouldve been reupped here

he didnt

thats why hes pimping himself off on talk radio instead of preparing for his next start

I think it would be a good move on Tampa Bay's part. He'd be a big draw attendance-wise.

Then again, the Tampa FO is not really known for making good moves.

they are getting better though. The Kazmir deal might be the most lop-sided deal in the last 10 years. James Shields is developing well. They've drafted well and they stole Carlos Pena last off-season. If they had some semblance of a bullpen, they would probably be a .500 team.

And has an ego like few others, is extremely opinionated and runs his mouth like few others.

In a situation where young, impressionable players are the norm, I'm not sure a guy like Curt would be a fit.

how poor do you think he'd do by playing essentially the exact same schedule, except substituting the sox for the rays?

You mean substituting the Sox bullpen by Ray's Bullpen?

that too. I meant instead of facing the Rays offense as a member of the red sox, he'd be facing the sox offense as a member of the rays. Much tougher.

Question - Which Sox pitcher will never play for the Rays?

Answer - Wakefield so he can always have a chance to pitch against them.

The more I think about it, the more I like it. Wouldnt Schilling be a type A free agent?... Right there Curt helps the Sox as Tampa would have to surrender a top 3 pick (maybe even 1st overall). Fantasy world there as that would be the biggest blunder ever for the D-Rays management

The Devil Rays would be picking in the top 15. Their pick would be protected.

Ya so we would get a supp. 1st rounder and a high 2nd rounder. I guess its mildly encouraging that we can possibly offer him arb. and he'll sign elsewhere.

once again, you run the risk of having him accept arb if you offer it. That would guarantee a double digit million dollar contract, which I am not sure the sox will want.

I think the risk is minimal. He'll easily get 8-10 per, and for more than one year. I don't think he walks away from more guaranteed money.

i have no issue with them offering him 10-12M for next year but due to players union verbage i doubt we can install a weight clause in the contract

he really has nobody to blame but himself for not being inked at this time

who knows

he may profit from it by putting up solid #s thruout the rest of the season

or

he may suck and cost himself millions

i think he'll be decent down the stretch and get himself a high end contract but its not coming from tampa

well he's going to lose 20-25% more of his leads due to their suck ass pen

he'd be calling for the gm's ass in april

and he wont have our offense or defense for that matter behind him

baseball is a game of redemption

every now and then things you say and do come with a price be it positive or negative

there are a lot of clubhouses who wont want this guy on their 25man roster for several reasons and i can understand why

this should be interesting how this plays out
