I had no idea he was having such a decent year for the A's. Outside of 2 or 3 outings, he's been a nice guy in the 3 or 4 spot. Was it because there was no room in the rotation for him that the Sox dumped him?

it was because he sucked here. he's having a good year though, benefitting from a pitcher's ballpark a bit but he's doing well. good for him

he's still a fresh face to big league hitters though, hopefully he won't get Arroyoed next year

No, it's because he wasn't that good. They gave him more than a handful of starts last year - 6 to be exact. He turned that into 39 IP and a 7.85 ERA. Consider this year the Aaron Small effect.

Former Sox players always look better after they've left ....

I disagree. I point to Bill Mueller, Kevin Millar, Trot Nixon, Pedro Martinez, Shea Hillenbrand, Nomar Garciaparra, Mark Bellhorn and Johnny Damon as evidence

Millar's been fantastic this year.

Millar's been fantastic this year.

hes been alright, I wouldnt say fantastic. .270 and 12 HRs just isnt good enough for your cleanup hitter and he'll be hard pressed to equal his best years with the Sox, 2005 notwithstanding

Do not look at the offensive stats only - consider his poor defense and Mirabelli might be able to beat him in a 100 mt. sprint.

Lenny Dinardo is a much better pitcher than Aaron Small. Last year he was suffering both from injuries and bad luck. This year, with a normal HR/FB rate you see what happens, especially in a large ball park. With a 2.3 GB/FB ratio you aren't going to be that bad especially in Oakland.

That said, Dinardo has been the benficiary of a high strand rate that is likely unsustainable.

He reminds me of Kurt Saarloos, whom the A's got some benefit out of before shipping him off when he became expensive.

When you have a payroll like the Red Sox, you can't experiment on the likes of Lenny Dinardo. When you have a team like the A's that can't afford a Tavarez as their long-man. You bet on the likes of Dinardo and hope he works out.

His K/BB is 1.30 which leaves a lot to be desired. He just wasn't that good when he was here, his stuff is unspectacular as are his peripherals meaning he is due for quite a bit of regression.
