Why does he have to throw hard to be successful?

Look, I'm not penciling him into any '08 plans either, but it's certainly a nice problem to have.

Guys who tend to miss bats also tend to throw hard. There are, of course, a number of people who canpitch effectively without throwing hard but I always get surprised if they suddenly look unhittable for stretches. I think it is safe to assume they are just pitching well rather than overpowering players.

Mark Buerlhe is the exception to the rule, not the norm. Same with Kenny Rogers.

I disagree. I've found them to be really good over the first 3 games.

Well, I'm happy for you. They were fine the first 2 games but that ended last night. Not the ultimate Homers but they have their moments.....<_>

I just miss NESN....because I'm a Homer..... ;)

I've heard that they're s*** talkers.

Maybe it's been the great games so far, but they've been pretty even announcing so far. Compared to a lot of other team's announcers, these guys are pretty listenable. And they do tend to talk up the Sox pitching, which is nice.

The only left handed pitcher I can recall in recent memory who threw 95+ consistently was Randy Johnson.

Is Kason Gabbard Randy Johnson? No. It's foolish to think he would be.

Gabbard, right now, is pitching very well.

Yes, and expecting him to do so consistently from here on out would be foolish. To hold onto him because he could become a back of the rotation soft tossing lefty would also be foolish. If there is reason to think he has something else (exceptional control, a plus plus curveball, etc.,) then I would be more in favor of keeping him. Honestly, I haven't studied him like the Sox FO likely has, so I trust them to know his worth. He could simply be another Lenny DiNardo.

If there comes a deal for Gabbard that could really help the team, then by all means make it.

I don't think that's going to happen right now anyways. If he pitches this way and earns the job, let him keep it.

Jason Michaels sucks. He should go beat up another cop.

At least Manny didn't sprint out of the way after he scored to ensure that he couldn't POSSIBLY offer Youkilis any help. He didn't animate himself either, but at least he didn't sprint into the clubhouse to shirk his responsibilities.

You know who I'm glad Gabbard doesn't remind me of? Cliff Lee.

I agree with Kilo. He gives me a Buehrle vibe. Similar ability to miss a bat or two. Similar velocity and reportoire. Similar GB tendencies and reliance on pitching to contact.

I would be shocked if he wasn't drawing at least a LITTLE bit of interest. He has been successful this season, and should at least warrant mention as a 3rd player in a deal to a team that could use MLB ready pitching. I would think he could help a team like Texas.

These Cleveland announcers are tolerable when they're a 2 man crew, but last night they had 3 guys and sucked. They kept trying to crack jokes and it was pretty annoying.

...And we strand runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Well, first you're saying you can't be excited because Gabbard can't keep pitching like this. Then you're saying he's garnering interest for a trade. Wouldn't GMs also think that he can't keep this up?

If you're inferring Gabbard could be part of a package to fetch Texeira, then I'll listen provided you also aren't sending Buchholz. And honestly, I'd like to think Gabbard/Lester/Moss could get that done at this point, with teams backing off and such. If a deal like that is on the table I'll pack Gabbard's bags for him.

Of course, it'll suck when we face him because he'll completely shut us down.

I love the fact he's a quick worker, too.
