Throughout July, "SportsCenter" will air "Who's Now," a daily series in which viewers will help ESPN determine the ultimate sports star by considering both on-field success and off-field buzz. Based on fan nominations, ESPN Research selected 32 finalists to square off in a single-elimination bracket. The winner of each matchup will advance based upon fan voting (70 percent) and ESPN's three-person panel (30 percent). In the first round, the panel consists of Michael Wilbon, Kirk Herbstreit and Keyshawn Johnson.

Today on SportsCenter, they highlighted the 1 seed Tom Brady against the 8 seed David Ortiz. Very interesting matchup. Thoughts anyone?

Wilbon, Herbstreit and Keyshawn all voted for Brady. I'm not really a fan of ESPN, but I think this whole "WHO'S NOW" thing can be interesting. There are some good matchups on there.

How can a person be now. This is dumb. ESPN is really going over the top with their whole edgy, modern, rap-influenced crap. Just give me game highlights dammit.

Gotta love ESPN putting the two biggest New England stars against each other so early in the "contest". I kinda doubt we'll see Jeter facing A-rod anytime soon:rolleyes: With that said though the whole concept is dumb and the hosts are worse. It has nothing to do with who's better or has had a bigger impact on their sport...it's who's the favorite of ESPN.

How the hell is Ortiz an 8 seed? I know he's not as "now" as Brady for obvious reasons, but an 8 seed? I was all worked up over this, then I remembered its some fabricated contest that represents everything I hate about ESPN.

Also I'd like to nominate myself as the most now person on this board.

There was a time when someone could have said to me "I don't watch ESPN" and I would have thought they were gay or not into sports. Not anymore. I think most real sports fans detest ESPN nowadays. Outside the Lines and the Sports Reporters are the only shows I can watch on that s***** network. Forget the actual games, I can't even watch Baseball Tonight anymore because it sucks so bad..

Exactly.

Joe Morgan, Chris Berman, anyone on Baseball Tonight etc. etc. etc. completely ruin their baseball coverage.

I love college football and college basketball, but hate ESPN's coverage of both. Kirk Herbstreit has an uncanny ability to breed contempt. I'd go futher into detail, but it makes my head hurt.

It's hard to believe that not long ago someone could watch SportsCenter every day and actually come away MORE informed about sports. I'm afraid now they'd come away more informed about the latest metrosexual urban fashions.

You can thank the ABC buyout and their "as much flash-per-second" style of Hank Williams-infused sports coverage for the downfall of ESPN. Thank you Disney for bastardizing another entertainment medium.

Dan Patrick is leaving. Perhaps that's a suggestion to the millions of viewers who gave ESPN its rise to prominence. It seems he was the last remaining relic from ESPN's credible past.

Come back, Craig Kilborn. All is forgiven...

Should be Ortiz if you count off field stuff. He donates a lot to charity, while Brady knocks up chicks and sues Yahoo.

Brady knocking chicks up is a bad thing? He has girlfriends...like normal people. Sure, he probably should have been a bit more careful when he knocked Bridget up, but whatever. By the definition of this tournament, Brady is more "now".

And yes, this tourney is f***in weird.

They have to fill the slow sports period somehow... but this is a ridiculous way to do it.

50 States in 50 days, or whatever it was called, was actually a good idea. But with how much it probably cost ESPN, somebody probably lost a job over it. You have to fill time somehow, and Oden and Durant playing summer league ball can only fill so much, but this is a stupid way to do it.

Harold Reynolds ;)

I liked that segment a lot. Maybe visiting sports in other countrys that are big would be a good segment.

im really starting to hate the Who's Now s***. But in this case it's Brady hands down.

I'm glad because it sounds like some Paris Hilton-style category and I wouldn't want any Red Sox to be a part of that.

...and if you couldn't tell, I hate Tom and the Pats. (and no I'm not going to tell you what s***** team I root for so posters can rip on them for a month)

if espn programming sucks what does that say for the other networks such as fox??

who wants to marry the girl with chlamydia

my other mommy is a man

dancing with freddy mercury....etc...

its incredible

former beauty and current mental douchebag paula abdul, the faggot from duran duran and the token black dude are the most watched faces on network tv these days.

this nation can name the last 3 winners from survivor but couldnt in a million years name their congressional reps.

the networks pander to their audience and seeing as though its a slow time for sports we are stuck with s*** like the bronx is burning and way too much of steven a smith.

thank god for the baseball package, HBO and the other 999 channels that generally offer me relief from the misery of network tv.

"If my words are yours, can you hear my Father? Can Bill know my Father, keeping his eye on me? Can I bone Kai and Butchie know my Father instead?

"My Father's shy doing his business. Kai helps my Father dump out. Bill takes a shot. Shaunie is much improved.

"Joe is a Doubting Thomas. Joe will save Not-Aleman. Joe will bring his buddies home. This is how Freddy relaxes. Cup-o'joe, and Winchell's variety dozen.

"Mitch catches a good wave. Mitch wipes out. Mitch wipes out Cissy. Cissy shows Butchie how to do that. Cissy wipes Butchie out. Butchie hurts Barry's head. Mister Rollins comes in Barry's face. My Father runs the Mega-Millions.

"Fur is big. Mud is big. The stick is big. The word is big. Fire is huge. The wheel is huge. The line and circle are big. On the wall, the line and circle are huge. On the wall, the man at the wall makes a man from the circle and line. The man at the wall makes a Word on the wall from the circle and line. The Word on the wall hears my Father.

"The zeroes and ones make the Word in Cass's camera. In the Word on the wall that hears my-Father-in-Cass's-camera, the good one Mitch catches doesn't wipe Cissy out. In the-Word-that-hears-my-Father, Cissy shows Butchie something else. In-my-Father's-Word, Cissy shows Butchie in Shaun. In-my-Father's-Word, Tina raises Shaun at lunch. In Cass's-camera, Butchie lays the court out for Barry, and Mister Rollins watches, and he doesn't come on Barry's face. In Cass's-camera, Butchie knows Kai kept the faith. In-my-Father's-Word, the Wave lifts them up.

"In Cass's camera, Bill doesn't bump his head on the stairs. In Cass's-camera, as long as he's being stupid, Bill gives Lois a kiss.

"In His-Word-in-Cass's-camera, the Internet is big. Nine-Eleven is big, but not every towel-head is eradicated. In His-Word, We are coming Nine-Eleven-Fourteen.

"In my-Father's-Word, Bill sees how Freddy relaxes. In Cass's-camera, Ramon wants to know who's hungry, in the courtyard and Room Forty-Five.

"In my-Father's-Word-to-come-in-Cass's-camera, Doctor Smith calls Ocean Properties. In Cass's-camera-to-come, my Father stares Not Aleman down, and Freddy sees Bill much-improved.

"You will not note my-Father's-Word, nor remember Cass's-camera, but you will not forget what we did here."

Sean, what's a Congressional Rep?

I'd gladly sniff Regfrigerator Perry's game-used jock before I'd watch:

Survivor, or

911 Nanny (aka "I'm A Fkn Loser and Can't Control My Kids, Whom I Shouldn't Have Been Allowed to Have Anyway and I'm Amazed Anyone Fukked Me In The First Place"), or

Danny Partridge's dysfunctional life story, or

that black dude with the clock around his neck, or

Dancing with the Has Beens

Liuckily it's summertime and we're busy with L.L. and such. Come fall I'm gonna need to re-subscribe to Comcast's On Demand so I can get quality programming...ok, yeah I mean the skin flicks and such.

Brady or Ortiz? Who should it be? Brady..3 rings. If there was a vote it would Definitely be Ortiz as the Red Sox have a HUGE edge in number of fans. The Patriots will always be 2nd fiddle to the Red Sox no matter how good they are. Baseball is king in NE..as it should be..baseball is the best game ever invented.

It isn't just the 3 rings, it's the overall success. Ortiz is definitely up there, and this is tough as hell, but Brady is the correct pick.

That said, how the hell is Ortiz an 8 seed? Whatever. I don't care about this that much anyway. It's an incredibly stupid way to take up time on Sports Center.

This is the worst idea in the history of TV programming.

I can't believe ESPN has sunk this f***ing low.

Mastrubating with sandpaper > Listing to a UNC grad trying to be black. (Adam Sandler is not funny)
