Just heard on WEEI that Leyland has named Haren the starter for the all-star game. He said his decision to do so was largely based on the fact that the game in in SF, so Haren is a local favorite:rolleyes:

and whats the problem? beckett didn't get snubbed

beckett 3.44 ERA 3.14WHIP OPPBA 241

haren 2.30 ERA 1.00WHIP OPPBA 205

haren is more deserving than beckett, santana would of been my second choice then beckett

let me guess you're going by beckett's 12 wins VS 10 for haren?

Sorry maybe a bad choice in titles......my problem isn't with the pick, it's with the way he did it. If you are going to pick someone to start, do it on why they are there in the first place (their performance this year) and not because he's the local guy

Regardless of the reasoning, Haren has been better than Beckett. besides, I'd rather Beckett not have to pitch 2-3 innings as opposed to the 1 inning

The AL lineup is

Ichiro CF

Jeter SS

Ortiz 1B

Rodriguez 3B

Guerrero RF

Ordonez LF

Rodriguez C

Polanco 2B

Haren P

Ortiz, Rodriguez, now thats a 3/4 Id like to see in 2008

Yeah, I really don't give a s*** what i think of him as a person, I want him at 3B next year and will give up Manny to do it.

Haren's numbers tend to suggest a great deal of luck, actually... but whatever, it's ERA that people care about so Haren deserves it.

Not going to happen.

Would you rather wish Beckett made the start and pitched 3 innings and also risk injury/blisters, or throw 1 inning.

I think Beckett not starting is a blessing. Its an honor to go I am sure, but this may be a blessing in disguise.

If he does opt out of his contract' date=' which he very well might, who else is going to sign him?[/quote']

The Angels?

The Giants?

The Dodgers?

He's not going to opt out, he's going to get a massive contract from the Yankees. Do you see the Red Sox topping a 6 year $180 million contract?

Cashman already said he won't give up mroe money to retain Rodriguez. If he opts out, I doubt it's because he wants more money anyway, it's more likely because he wants out of New York.

great deal of luck ?

among starters he's 2 in the major in WHIP(1.00) 3rd in OPPBA(205) and 3rd in ERA(2.30)

no luck there, he's the real deal. Now will he keep that up all year? who knows

His BABIP is .246, which is well below league average.

I think a month ago it was .212, when his ERA was 1.77.

Since we're taking what Major League executives say at face value:

Early last week, Rodriguez told reporters that he wanted "100 percent to stay in New York. Period." In an interview earlier last week on WFAN radio's Mike and the Mad Dog program, Rodriguez indicated the fans reaction this season could be a determining factor.

its at 246 cause he's good? no?

Luck. Some pitchers have streaks in which line drives end up in gloves, and ground balls can't find holes. Eventually, the luck will normalize.

Think of Shawn Chacon in 2005. He had an unusually low BABIP of .258, which was no doubt helping his ERA.

Eventually, his BABIP returned to normal, and he began to pitch like Shawn Chacon.

For what it's worth arod's agent, boras, was on Jim Rome is Burning as a guest earlier this year. (in studio) He said that he doesn't know what arod is going to do, but if he chooses to opt out he fully expects an 8 year deal. Me thinks the sox won't commit to that...and i hope I'm right

I don't know why your fighting such a mute and obvious point that there is some chance' date=' mininal or not.[/quote']

I haven't even conceded that there is a chance.

The only team that is going to pony up the cash is the Yankees. The only way Rodriguez declines that offer, is if he really hates New York. Even then, is he really going to pass up a $30 million dollar salary per year? I doubt it.

A-Rod has a lot of leverage in this situation. They can't afford to lose his bat, and if he opts out they lose a $30.2 million subsidy from the Rangers.

I think that Haren deserves it, too. If he didn't get the start, I think he could be considered snubbed. He's only had one start where he's given up more than three runs, he's had eight starts where he's given up one run or less, and he's gone at least six innings in all but two starts. Not to mention the ERA and the ten wins. Haren deserved it.
