Hmmmm. So' date=' that's one less inning on Papelbon's arm and an ability for him to close tonight and possibly tomorrow if necessary. Our All-Star set-up guy did it again, despite your lack of confidence in him.[/quote']

......

If Granderson hits Infante's ball, what are you saying right now?

"We lost, but at least we saved Papelbon for tomorrow!"

You do recall we smoked Robertson last time we faced him, right? How do you know we'll even need him tomorrow?

In all fairness...that did get pretty ugly. 2 hits to start the inning and then 2nd and 3rd with one out? There was cause for some uncertainty there. I'm also on-board with preserving Pap's arm, but this is a game we need to win. Daisuke can go the distance with his stamina...I'm not saying we should bank on it, but I just think right now you have to play to win this thing. The best thing for this team would be to send Paps out there for at most 2 innings and give him tomorrow off if he pitches more than one tonight.

This. Robertson vs. Matsuzaka? I like our chances tomorrow.

You have no confidence in Okajima? Shut the f*** up smartass.

So, if I hear you correctly, you're saying settle for a loss and hope to win tomorrow.

Okajima may work out of this and he gets all the credit in the world for doing so, but I think Papelbon has not been babied to this point. He's actually been handled really well.

And like SOTK said, it's a chance to gain ground on the division again, after losing ground last night. I say go for the win.

Okajima works out of it. Nice.

And I say that the difference between using Papelbon for two innings and Okajima for two innings this season has been almost nill. Okajima is getting outs at an alarming rate just like Papelbon does. I'm not saying to give up on either game. if I was saying to rest Papelbon and pitch Timlin then I would be giving up on this game. that's not exactly what I said, as you can see from my posts.

If Okajima was able to go this many batters then he should be used for this many batters. He was, it worked out, Papelbon is fresh, we can still win this game. All is well in my world.

IOW - Baby Papelbon and kill Okajima.

Who has the higher workload this year?

If If If... baseball is all about Ifs. What matters is what actually happens. Okajima works out of it.

I think my priorities were right: have Papelbon warmed up. Let Okajima start the inning. If he gets in trouble bring in Papelbon. Tito did part of what I wanted (leaving Okajima in) but none of the rest.

At the beginning of the inning it seemed reasonable to expect that Okajima could have had an easy 1-2-3 inning.

yeah, that's right. When confronted with the choice you overwork your set-up man instead of your relief ace, particularly when you have a 12 game lead.

Again, though, Papelbon is nearly guranateed to pitch at least an inning in this game. The choice is whether you wanted him to pitch 2 or 1.

...Bailey? They're putting in Bailey? f***ing why? Maybe we'll catch lightning in a bottle here...?

We better score right here. I'm starting to s*** my pants again at the thought of Timlin vs. Sheffield-Ordonez-Guillen. Gulp. :(

Papelbon is nowhere to be found because hey, if we did what we did last year Papelbon could blow his shoulder out again.

Papelbon should have started the inning. Okajima gave you 1.1 innings, he really rolled the dice.

Okajima's shoulder is going to fall off in a few weeks at this rate.

i think they put him in cause it was a lefty, but leyland took him out

I guess.

I didn't hear his longevity as the reason you didn't want him pitching. Your condicention started when okajima started giving up baserunners. I didn't know you were concerned about his long term health.

You should have said that at the time if that's your argument.

If he gets a 10 pitch 1-2-3 inning this argument isn't happening.

Uh....Youkilis is sitting on the bench. I know they're nursing him right now, but I think he's okay for 3 or 4 innings (if it even goes that long). Not to mention he's getting 3 days off pretty soon...4 if you don't play him tomorrow.

I said him throwing after 1.1 innings was rolling the dice, especially when he has been a one inning pitcher for much of the year.

Tito babies his players too much. Theyre f***ing ball players. If you look over at Youkilis and his eyes say he wants that big hit, you put him in there

Onto the bottom of the 11th: Its Timlin vs Sheffield, Ordonez, Guillen

Posted
If they go to Timlin I will really have to hold myself back from hunting down Tito tonight and smacking his head off his shoulders.

Who else would they be going to? Tito seems pretty okay with just giving this game away. And yes, Timlin's on the mound. f*** this.
