Step 1) Trade Paul Pierce to Atlanta for Joe Johnson and the #3 overall pick

Most of these veteran trade discussions are revolving around Pierce's wish to acquire another vet who can help take the Celtics to the "promised land" of another first round exit. There have been whispers between the Hawks and the Celtics regarding Joe Johnson and the three first round picks between the two teams. Take these discussions a step forward and include the veteran Celtic star who is days away from going Kobe on the Celtics if they don't acquire a veteran, which most likely will be a deal that the Celtics will later regret. Joe Johnson is one of the league's most underrated players. He'll be turning 26 years old on Thursday and his stats, along with his play on the court has gotten progressively better, including a 25 POINT PER GAME season last year which went way under the radar among NBA fans. Joe Johnson is a rising star in the NBA and we should've never let him go in the first place. He will be a premier scorer for years to come and he fits the perfect mold as a shooting SG for this young squad. Not only would they receive Joe Johnson, but also the highly coveted #3 pick. You're never going to get full value for Pierce but this is as close as you will get.

Step 2) Draft Al Horford at #3 and Draft Corey Brewer at #5

Al Horford will turn out to be one of the best players in this draft and his game is very polished and NBA ready. He is a force offensively and he will develop a very nice post up game and he has also shown a good shot. He is very athletic and he will pair nicely with Al Jefferson. Corey Brewer is very similar to a Scottie Pippen/Josh Howard type player. He is already better than many of the wing players on the Celtics and he hasn't even stepped on the court yet. He will be a defensive stopper and he also showed a nice offensive game as well last season. His athleticism and speed wil l allow him to create oppurtunities on offense and he has all the tools that are necessary to be a star SF.

Let's take a quick break and look at the Celtics new depth chart.

PG Rajon Rondo/Delonte West/Sebastian Telfair

SG Joe Johnson/Tony Allen

SF Corey Brewer/Gerald Green

PF Al Horford/Ryan Gomes

C Al Jefferson/Kendrick Perkins/Sean Williams?

Also, Wally Szcerbiak and Theo Ratliff will still be under contract but look to trade them or have them play extremely limited roles with this team...when their contracts are no longer under the Celtics, it will free up a lot of space. They will be injured anyways so their significance on the court is nothing.

This team's only question mark is at the PG position as Rajon Rondo has not quite proven that he is ready to be a starting PG in the NBA, however, there are plentiful PGs throughout t he 2008 draft including OJ Mayo, Derrick Rose, Eric Gordon, and Darren Collison, so we could see what Rondo is capable of this season and then see if PG is a need in next season's draft. This team would be ready to compete for a title in about 4 years.

1) if you think the hawks are dumb enough to trade johnson who is going to be 26 friday and is going to be entering his prime years AND the number three pick for pierce, an aging veteran who is pushing 30 and has maybe 1 year left in his prime, you're dumber than i thought.

2) you can't compete with 2 rookies logging starters minutes, its just not possible

3) you can't expect to be good when you have a 2nd year point guard with 2 rookies playing. you just can't

4) and if you think any celtic fan is going to wait four more years just to be competitive, you're wrong.

get a clue bro, this team needs to compete within the next two years or else the fan base will be gone (not saying i will, just the fan base in general).

THANK GOD you aren't our GM.

Stop listening to whatever the media tells you. The word relevancy is irrelevant. The average Boston sports fan could give a s*** about the Celtics, so forget about them. The main goal is to win and building around Pierce just isn't going to work. Atlanta has thrown Joe Johnson's name around and sure, its far fetched but at least it's somewhat of an option. Let's face it...everyone who Pierce would approve of and their mother is going to reject a trade to Boston. Garnett didn't want to come here...neither did Jermaine O'Neal and neither does Shawn Marion. We need to pick a direction and we mine as well build around Al Jefferson.

So you honestly think that Atlanta is going to trade their centerpiece AND their #3 pick for a guy who's 4 (I think) years older??? YOU, sir are a HOMER.

Like I said, it's a dream case scenario and I'd also approve of a deal to Chicago for a package of Ben Gordon or Luol Deng or something but I think this team needs to take advantage of the draft and maybe acquire a young player or two for Pierce and stop letting Paul dictate the moves and philosophy of this club because it just isn't going to work.

I honestly don't have one, Danny doesn't even have one, so I don't see how you can say your ideas are so amazing...

Right now I'm leaning towards grabbing Jeff Green, trying to swing a sign and trade for Chauncey Billups, and signing a few vets for the MLE.

Jeff Green seems like a solid player, but I wouldn't use the 5th pick on him.

I'm thinking either trade down for him and acquire a few smaller pieces to get him lower, or use Ratliff and the pick to get a 3rd guy to go with Pierce and Jefferson.

Those are the only 2 options you can go unless you want to deal Pierce.

Ratliff, Green and maybe a next years pick for Kirilenko?

OH MY GOD. I didn't hear this but a few of my friends did and appearently, Jim Gray just said on ESPN News that the Celtics/Suns/T-Wolves are extrememly close to a 3 way deal, pending Marion agreeeing to cooperate with Boston. It would send KG to Phoenix, Marion to Boston, and Theo, the #5 pick, and others would be involved. The details were kinda broad but a frontcourt of Pierce/Marion/Big Al...where do I sign up?

Kevin Garnett went so far as to talk to Kobe Bryant about the two stars playing together on the Los Angeles Lakers. He might want to give Steve Nash a call.

ESPN's Jim Gray reported on Tuesday night that a league source said that the latest trade scenario has Garnett landing in Phoenix with the Suns.

Three teams are involved in these discussions, with the Suns getting Garnett, the Celtics picking up Phoenix forward Shawn Marion and the Wolves acquiring the fifth pick in Thursday's draft and players from Boston.

This development comes after ESPN's Ric Bucher reported earlier on Tuesday that talks between the Lakers and Wolves concerning Garnett had broken down. The Lakers had reportedly offered a package containing at least forward Lamar Odom and center Andrew Bynum.

The current trade is basically contingent on whether Marion would agree to a contract extension with the Celtics, Gray reported. Marion can opt out of his contract after the 2007-08 season. The Suns have spoken to Marion about the deal.

The Suns and Wolves spoke about a Garnett trade last week, and according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein, Marion told Phoenix that he would not want to play for Minnesota or Boston.

Sources have told Stein that Garnett and Nash have become good friends in recent years. Garnett, a 10-time All-Star, has told the Wolves that he wants to play for a warm weather team that has a legitimate chance to win the championship.

Garnett can also opt out of his contract after the coming season, prompting talks that the Timberwolves refused to entertain for years.

Jim Gray is a reporter for ESPN. Ric Bucher covers the NBA for ESPN The Magazine. Marc Stein is the senior NBA writer for ESPN.com.

Huh? The Celtics are trading their 5th pick (in this very deep draft...that gives Minnesota two draft picks I think) and Ratliff. Plus some others. Whatever it is, this deal is an okay away from Marion from being completed.

This isn't what I'm hearing. BUT the rumors have been circulating for over a year, that Marion will be traded this year. KG is the only guy I would want to get back for Marion, because of his versatility. I'm not saying Marion's better than KG, but I'm saying KG is an extremely versatile player, like Marion and if we are going to lose our guard anyone player, and 20&11 guy we better get someone like that back.

I've been looking around tonight, and read that Minnesota wants expiring contracts and picks. The Suns are rumored to be close to trading Kurt Thomas and a future first round pick...for cap relief, BUT I read somewhere else that we are interested in getting their number 8 pick. That would help in the KG sweepstakes, if they want picks.

Gimme Marion all day as long as we don't need to give up Big Al.

If we could get away with only giving away Theo, the pick, and either Telfair/West or a small piece like that, it'd be rape.

Rondo

Allen

Pierce/Green

Marion/Gomes

Jefferson/Perk

You'd have like no back court depth but that's what the MLE is for. There are a few good guys that could be had for the MLE that we could pick up off of free agency.

The most probable scenario has Garnett going to Phoenix, Shawn Marion going to Boston and the Celtics' No. 5 pick and some players going to Minnesota. However, ESPN.com is reporting that another scenario has emerged that would give Minnesota Atlanta's No. 3 and No. 11 picks, along with several cap-friendly contracts from the Hawks and Suns. The Suns would get Garnett and the Hawks would end up with Amare Stoudemire, who they'd reunite with Joe Johnson. We think the scenario that excludes Amare and the Hawks is more likely, but it does sound like a Garnett deal is on the verge of getting done. Stay tuned. Jun. 27 - 9:52 am et

then the Herald said that the Celtics have no deals in place involving Marion, so who knows what will happen

Amare isn't going anywhere. D'Antoni would quit tomorrow if we traded him. Marion seems like the only guy we could trade. It's been a sad, but strong possibility for awhile now and it seems like a reality. I love Marion, and wish him the best on whatever team he lands on. But he will surely be missed and get a standing O by most (should be EVERYONE) if he returns in a visitor's jersey.

NOTE: I'm not saying he's for sure gone. But it sure seems like his time left as a Phoenix Sun is hours

OK, i changed it up a bit, and this is my final plan if i were Danny Ainge....

TRADE—5th pick, Theo Ratliff, Delonte West and Gerald Green for Andrei Kirilenko and 25th pick

25th pick—Sean Williams (upside to be the best defensive player in the draft, has some offensive potential to. a steal wherever he goes)

32nd pick—Gabe Pruitt (good scoring point guard, who in his last year at USC also turned into a good distributor. had good tourney)

Rondo/Pruitt/Ray/Telfair

Pierce/West

Kirilenko/Wally

Gomes/Williams/Powe

Jefferson/Perk

you really think he's gone? I dont see Phoenix trading him unless they can get a big name player. Maybe if they can move up in the draft they move him.

What would it take to get him? Wally/Ratliff, West/Allen, Green and the 5th pick?
