Great to see him hit the 2 run bomb. I really like the guy. He keeps his mouth shut and seems genuinely excited to play the game wearing a Sox uniform. Even though his stats dont tell the story...he is prettty valubale to the club. Pretty good LH bat off the bench (stats aside), and plays multiple positions (1b, 3b, LF, RF). Also runs the bases pretty well.

On another team he could possibly be a starting player, or fringe player....yet seems to be really happy with his role on the best team in baseball......

Good to see him have a great AB tonight.

EDIT: ERIC HINSKE THREAD....COULD A MOD PLEASE CHANGE THE TITLE?????

Great...he had a decent game for once. Does that even boost his average up to .200?

Runs the bases pretty well...? Please, Hinske is about as fast as Elton John is straight...He's nothing special and there's a reason why he isn't getting any playing time.

He's not like Jay Payton and screams at Tito in public because of his playing time. Hinske realizes he's on a team that has very good chances of playing in October. 1st Base, 3rd Base, Right field, Left field and you'll see him grab his glove. Left handed bat with some pop off the bench is also a valuable commodity coming off the bench

he gives the team a lot of what they don't have. can play several positions, lefty bat off the bench and decent power. we could do worse as far as bench players go but he isn't anything special, nowhere close to what a lot of people thought he would be after winning ROTY

ROTY is such a hilarious award when you consider where a lot of the winners are now.

Angel Berroha?: DFA'd

Hinske: Traded for a sack of beans, bench player batting .190

Jennings: Traded for better players, not pitching very well outside of Coors.

Kerry Wood: Hahahaha

Hideo Nomo: Where'd he go, anyways?

I mean, there are a lot of good guys, Pujols, Ichiro, Willis, Street, Verlander, Beltran, Jeter, Hanley....but still.

Jennings has a 3.63 ERA, this year.

I was looking more at the 42 H in 39 IP. I know most of his other stats are okay, but I dont think he's going to keep it up. His WHIP is 1.31, which is decent but is almost certainly going to go up to a more Jennings-standard 1.70 or so.

Hes going to finish the season with a below .500 record and a 4-5 ERA, mark my words.

Riverside, we're together on this one----but I wish to Heaven that he could hit just a tad more consistently than he has. I mean, what is he hitting now, 181? I know from what I read that he hated Toronto and loves playing in Boston; I just wish he would be more consistent with the bat.

Bo, I imagine that if he had duplicated his ROTY stats a few more times we wouldn't have been in a position to trade for him. A little more consistency with the bat and we might have something there. His homerun last night wasn't needed the way the game went but maybe it was a shot of confidence for the guy. We can use all the confidence that can be instilled in our team for the coming dog days of summer.

I've remembered a few occaisions where Hinske has come through with a big double off the monster in the late innings of close games so he gives you a bit more than homeruns in blowouts

He's not wrong.

No, but he didnt have to be snide about it either.

What i said isnt necessarily wrong either. I didn't say anything about him starting for Boston, if anything I said the complete opposite. I instead said he could probably be a starting player on a really bad team, or a fringe player on a mediocre team. I said its nice that a player understands his role, and that its nice to watch the guy hit the hr and really enjoy it. I said he is a lot better than other bench guys around the league, and stats aside I think he is....plus we dont have to deal with the bitching about playing time ala Jay Payton. I also said he runs the bases well....which I think he does.

I make a thread to appreciate the type of guy he is, the way he plays.....and the fact that he genuinely enjoys playing for Boston.......and the response I get from BoSox34 is essentially STFU he sucks.

I guess its wrong to compliment a good guy whos been struggling, and who has more value than his 07 stats show.

Last few ABs starting to hit the ball better. Again, his versatility is really nice and adds an element to the bench they have been lacking over the past two seasons.
