I have to make this early since I won't get a chance to get to the computer until after the game has started. Time to sweep the anabolic all-stars!

Facing Daisuke Matsuzaka on Saturday, the San Francisco Giants couldn't get any runs across the plate. Barry Bonds knows hitting against Tim Wakefield may not be much easier.

Wakefield tries to lead the Boston Red Sox to a three-game sweep of Bonds and the Giants as the teams conclude their interleague series Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park.

Following a run of four straight appearances in which he gave up at least four runs, Wakefield (6-7, 3.92 ERA) has righted himself with quality starts in his last two outings. The 40-year-old knuckleballer limited the Colorado Rockies to one run and four hits over eight innings Tuesday, leading the Red Sox to a 2-1 victory.

In seven interleague starts since June 12, 2005, Wakefield is 5-0 with a 1.70 ERA and a .185 opponent batting average.

"It's crazy, bro," Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz said of the plight of NL hitters who are unfamiliar with Wakefield's knuckler. "It's tough."

Bonds was a teammate of Wakefield -- then a rookie -- on the 1992 Pittsburgh Pirates club which won the NL East. That experience hasn't helped Bonds when facing Wakefield, however. He is 0-for-8 lifetime against the knuckleballer.

The San Francisco (30-37) left fielder hasn't had much success in his first series at Fenway, going 1-for-6 with no home runs to remain stuck at 747 career homers -- eight behind Hank Aaron's all-time record. In the eighth inning of Saturday's contest, Bonds struck out against Boston reliever Hideki Okajima with runners on first and second and no outs.

Okajima escaped the jam and the Red Sox (43-24) went on to a 1-0 victory, making a winner of Matsuzaka, who allowed just three hits in seven innings but was impressed by Bonds.

"I've faced many great batters on the way, but he certainly emitted a great aura about him," Matsuzaka said through an interpreter. "That's rare even to see among those great hitters."

Manny Ramirez snapped a personal 50 at-bat homerless streak with a solo shot in the fourth inning for the game's only run. The Red Sox won despite scoring two runs or fewer for the fifth time in six games, with the lone exception a 10-2 victory in Friday night's series opener.

The Giants, who stranded nine baserunners, are 0-for-16 with runners in scoring position in this series and 1-for-29 in RBI situations during their current three-game losing streak.

Looking to avoid its third four-game skid of the season, San Francisco sends Matt Morris (7-3, 2.56) to the hill. Morris leads all Giants starters in both wins and ERA, and has posted quality starts in all eight of his outings since the start of May.

The right-hander pitched his third complete game in Monday's 4-3 victory over Toronto, yielding seven hits while walking one and striking out four. Bonds also hit his last homer in that contest.

Morris also threw a complete game in his only regular-season appearance against the Red Sox. Pitching at home for St. Louis on June 6, 2005, he limited Boston to four hits in a 7-1 win.

He lost to the Red Sox at Fenway in Game 2 of the 2004 World Series, however, when he gave up four runs, four hits and walked four over 4 1-3 innings as the Cardinals fell 6-2.

I just have a feeling Bonds will get one.

I had that feeling for the entire game today. Sometimes that feeling means nothing.

On that note, I've always wondered if any of the players, managers, or owners read or posted on message boards to bounce ideas or whatever. Hell maybe one of us is with a team. If i were a player i'd want to know what people were saying about me.

Ok, I'll bite. I don't like the WMP in CF choice today. Apparently Coco has adjusted his stance so that he's standing taller in the box, holding the bat a little more upright (not laying it back on his shoulder), and moved his feet a little closer together, and ever since the switch he's had better results. I don't like taking PT away from a guy who is working through something and finding results.

I think Manny has earned the right to swing when he pleases. It's not like the guy is up there hacking. He only pulls the trigger when it's in his spot.

In other news, when that new sideline dish start working for NESN? Definite upgrade over big mouth Tina.
