you also gotta factor in the fact that the lineup has to give him some f***ing runs once in awhile for him to be a plus 500 pitcher.

Bo, that is always a factor, perhaps as important as his effectiveness on the hill. I read where the Reds have put Adam Dunn on the market. I just wonder if the Red Sox would be interested? A lot of strikeouts but a 35-40 homer man who can field his position. Can play first or the outfield. It means moving Drew to center and it is a rent job for half a season, but right now I, too, am looking for a way to get another bat in the lineup.

I was hoping I would hear Eric Byrnes' name bantered about last weekend but right now Theo seems to be in some daze that Crisp is finally going to turn it around, and Lugo is ready to break out. The latter? Maybe. The former? No way Jose.

Very serious Jacko. release point!!!!

You find the proper release point of your floater and you can become much more effective. I saw it with a couple of knucklers I coached back in the 90's. I never really liked the risk of that pitch but it is devastating to try and hit if it is effective. Besides, my argument is that an effective Wakefield helps our team a helluva lot more than an ineffective one. Besides, he has had his share of bummers this year. Now we need him to go on a hot streak with his pitching and if last night is of any indication possibly he will be a much more effective Tim pitching for us this summer.

I don't think he's is disputing the fact that when Wakefield is effective, he helps the ballclub bigtime. When he's on, he can eat innings and keep teems at bay. What his arguement is is that he has less control as to when he's on than any "regular" pitcher does. The elements play a large part in what a knuckleball will do on any given day, and thusly, getting on any kind of roll while being a knuckleball pitcher is exteeeeeeeeemely difficult because there are many things outside of your control that directly effect the quality of pitch that you throw.

Would your head spontaneously combust if Dunn did come here and he and WMP were in the same lineup once in a while? :)

fred. The difference is that you started as a NL fan and converted to a sox fan when you were older. Youk is a sox fan who follows a NL team as well. Like I said' date=' there is a difference in being brought up one way and then choosing another.[/quote']

The hair-splitting machine is in the mail Jackson. No, I don't get your difference between fans at all; in fact my friend, I think it is all ********. You seem to have trouble with the word convert for some reason. Converts root just as hard for their new team as anyone else, and while I totally think SoxFan is in his right to follow a team in the other league, so I believe should I without the crap that ensues from some people around here.

Rather than get into a feud with you since I like and respect you, let's just agree to disagree on this one.

HOSN is spot on.

Well guys, here's the solution. HOSN, you and I will root for him to have it together the rest of the year while Jacko roots the other way. I'm not here to get into an argument with anyone today, or any other day if I can help it.

Just throwing out ideas HeadSox. Dunn is availabale; if we had him I think Pena might actually be traded away. Having them both in the lineup would make your head combust just like mind would from time to time.

Now that you have gently shot my suggestion down, do you have any better suggestions to improve our attack with our shortstop and centerfield positions still a couple of season long black holes. You cannot be serious and tell me that you would be willing to ride this season out with those two in the lineup and still slumping, would you?

no need for a feud fred. Sox nation is a very strange one indeed. But I have had the best spectator seat in the house in watching the comings and goings of red sox fans IN red sox nation. Unless you have been A: Raised by a sox fan, or B: been a sox fan in New England, you dont really have much of a pedigree. And as a convert from a coast away, things are different. Does that mean you are any less of a fan. No. Does that mean you dont love your red sox. Absolutely not. But does it mean that you havent experienced and lived in the red sox culture. Absolutely. Being a fan and living in the culture are 2 different things in your case. If you wish to continue this topic, there is one in the fights and crap thread. I;d enjoy other people's opinions on this.

And just for reference. The entire state of Massachusetts does not have the name "Yankees" available for their little league players on their teams. Consider that. Would NY ever do that? Cali? Anywhere else? No. Massachusetts is a different animal when it comes to the sox.

Put the way you just did Jackson I now fully understand and can agree with you. This time, though, you did not even hint of questioning how much of a fan I am, and that makes all things cool. As far as Yankees are concerned, let me let you in on that one. While you can effectively question my RS pedigree you cannot even begin to question my Yankee hating one because that is superior to anyone on this board or any other board. It was forged as a young kid in the late 40's and early 50's in New York. You can read about the Brooklyn Dodgers fans of yore and you can get all the insight you need. I am probably the only kid in my old neighborhood who despised Joe DiMaggio. Even Italian kids who were Dodger fans loved and worshipped him. I hated his f***ing guts as I did all the Italians on that team---the ugly and repulsive Berra, ******* Raschi, the sawed off little s*** Rizzuto, and slimy filthy punk Martin (nee Alfonso Paesano)

Good post by the way. No need to go to fights and crap. I also wonder what it would be like you and I ever wound up sitting next to one another at a Red Sox-Yankee game. It would be a sight to see.

I didn't really shoot it down...depending on what we'd have to give up, I'd be in favor of Dunn playing here. I don't think he's our long term solution, as I'd like to see the Sox make a run at one of the big-ticket FAs in center this offseason (assuming they don't think Ellsbury is ready, or they deal him...), but for the time being, I wouldn't hate seeing Coco get dealt or come in as a late inning defensive replacement/baserunner.

It just boggles my mind how you can call shortstop a black hole. Lugo is the top 10 in RBIs among ML SS and top 5 in SBs...he's got more RBIs, equal HRs, and triple the stolen bases that Jeter does. I don't have any doubt that his average will come eventually...but in the meantime, let him come out of his funk. Games aren't won based upon batting average...they're won based upon runs...and, to me, Lugo is doing a lot to generate those out of the SS position.

I predict he'll finish .275, 13 HRs, 80 R, 70 RBI, 37 SB. You won't take that out of a shortstop?

HeadSox, I would take such a stat with open arms. Lugo needs to get on base more, however. More hits and stolen bases would go a long way to helping our offense. Remeber, my ass has been on the line because I was one of the loudest cheerleaders for the signing of Julio and no one likes to wind up looking like a fool.

Download Bostondirtdogs.com and scroll down to the upper middle of the page and you will see a picture of the Fenway Park diamond with a hole at short and a bigger one in center. Apparently there are more people than I who think we have holes of a sort out there. As for Dunn, I was just throwing out some possibilities. Again, though, the guy I really would like is Eric Byrnes.
