Red Sox designated LHP J.C. Romero for assignment.

The right move from the Red Sox, as Javier Lopez has been far more impressive as the second lefty in the pen. Romero had a nice 3.15 ERA, but he had allowed 24 hits, walked 15 and struck out just 11 in 20 innings. Since he's due only about $1 million over the rest of the season, the Red Sox might be able to get a little something for him in a trade.

Sox make the right decision here. Javier Lopez has made a name for himself this season as a clucth lefty specialist. Romero was giving up too much hits (especially facing lefties) and also had a high walk rate. The bullpen has only gotten stronger with the addition of Timlin and subtraction of JC

Well that's just what we had all been discussing, get rid of Romero, and looks like they'll be making that move. Now who could we get in return for him? Is he worth a good bat? Another lefty? And if so, who's gonna match up evenly with him on the trading block?

nobody would trade for Romero, and if they did, it would be more of a money swap than anything. Nobody would send actual talent over. Cept maybe the Orioles.

You said it Riverside; a REAL GOOD RIGHT MOVE!!!!! I was afraid Javier would be doing the Youkalis Shuttle back to Pawtucket (remember 2005?), but this is one decision no one should find any trouble accepting. Romero was crap with the Twins in 2005, barf with the Angels last year and he didn't distinguish himself with us at all except for that one save he got for us early in the season.

Being a lefty he will probably catch on with another team, probably someone like the Dodgers or Giants, but if we can get back a healthy and productive Mike Timlin that's like making a trade for Romero and getting the best of it.

Are you kidding Thumper????? If we could get a bowl of chili-mac and a couple of towels for the guy we would be doing well. Teams will wait until he's released before they make any move towards this guy.

Why do you annoit everyone as clutch?

Hey Crespo, you don't have to get on Riverside's case on this one; this is one move both of you can join forces on, and include me in the parade. I had a feeling Romero would wind up as a dismal pickup. I saw him numerous times the past two years out here at Angels Stadium and, believe me, he was quite unimpressive----and that's being very kind about it.

By the way, F.....; nah, can't do it. Let's go for three in a row today. We will need it because the Pirates' chances of beating the Yankees at YS, well, I might take a bet if someone would give me five to one odds.

Agreed, it would probably be cash considerations or maybe some low level prospect if some team was actually willing to do so

They could have flipped a coin between Romero and Piniero to see who would be let go. I wanted to see Piniero go. He always looks frightened when he's out on the mound.

I think it's the right move with Timlin coming back but it surprises me cause I thought they'd use the options they have on Lopez. ah well, good call

Is it weird that every time I read DFA'd I interpret it as "Digital Free Agent-ed"

I know what it really means, but I always read it like that on first pass.

In the computer age, your interpertation might be valid.

:dunno:

I think it hasn't been officially changed, because it would scare Joe Morgan, and other SABRhaters.

How does he do it??? He has 10 IP and only one earned run, but he walks 10.8 batters per 9 innings and his WHIP is 1.70. Combine his Boston stats and hes pitched 30 innings with a 2.40 ERA to go along with a 1.87 WHIP and a whopping 27 walks. He cant sustain a 102% LOB but man he's been getting into trouble and getting out of it all year

haha wow, the guy practically walks as many guys as he strikes out, and the reason his numbers look so good is because he had a BABIP of around .160 in his time with the Phillies.
