I've been away for two weeks [and my boys go on a little run too, so I didn't get to enjoy it on here], but I just don't get it with this Arod thing.

HE PLAYS TO WIN. Even if he said "mine" which it doesn't look like he did on replays, IT IS PART OF THE GAME. Pitchers who throw at batters, batters who crowd the plate, hitters who peek back at the game or runners on second who steal signs...it's all part of the game.

You know, I have ripped Arod more than most Yankee fans, but I always appreciated that no matter what, he plays hard.

I'm glad he tricked the third baseman. If it was Ortiz who did it, you would love him for it. If the idiotic New York media didn't have it in for this guy, or if it was Jeter who did it, it would be a heads up play.

Trickery is part of the game. For all you historians of the game, [Chance, of Tinkers to Evers to Chance fame] used to hook his finger in the belt of baserunners to slow them down when they were on first base. Players constantly try to dupe runners on fly balls, playing it off as a ground ball, the hidden ball trick has often been used to success, etc.

He made a good play. I wasn't aware that baseball players weren't supposed to try to take advantage of stupid players on the other team. Enough already.

Lowell went in hard against Cano. Good play. Arod did the same to Pedroia. Dirty play. Get real. This is a sport played by men. I swear, we had it harder playing high school ball. I knew as a second baseman that if I was anywhere near the base turning a double play, I would be taken out. If he did, as long as it was clean, I brushed myself off and found myself usually congratulating the opposing player on a good play.

If you hate Arod that is one thing. However to castigate him for a play that you would love your own favorite player to do is another.

I for one, couldn't stop laughing when he did it.

P.S. 6.5 games out of the wild card. One game at a time, lol. I hope.

A-Rod defends himself after the game:

Notice he says he was PAST the short stop and at 3rd base when he said "Ha" and that he said it just because he was happy that he got to third. ********.

THEN he says HE has this done to him 2-3 times a week from the dugout... ********.

If that happens to A-Rod 2-3 times a week, you know a prima donna like him would be bitching about it. You can tell he's a lying mother f***er in this clip.

I swear, the next time a Red Sox player goes the extra mile and uses some trickery to win the game, I will never let you guys hear the end of it.

I saw video of the post-game interview with ARod. I didn't believe a word he said. Even his "I could care less" what the other guys think I wasn't buying.

It happens to him over by the opposing dugout? Not sure I buy into that either, but that said...

I don't have a huge problem with what he did, the Toronto players have to make that play, regardless of what was said. Further, if they have an issue with it I'd prefer to see them take care of it on the field as opposed to whine about it publicly (of course the media made sure that any Jay's players' comments on the incident received lots of attention).

If "the code" truly is that you don't do what ARod did, then let ARod know you'll be taking care of business...and follow through.

Well if a Sox player does it, I won't be defending him, because regardless of who does it, it's DIRTY.

It's not DIRTY. Dirty is head-hunting. Dirty is sliding in spikes high to hurt someone. Dirty is taking a catcher's legs out from under him as he is taking a throw and blocking the plate.

Distracting an infielder by yelling out "Ha!" or "mine!" is not dirty. I would hate to think what you think of players who steal signs. You must have a coronary every time a pitcher throws a brushback pitch.

You just can't admit A-Rod was in the wrong? If you don't want to call it dirty fine, it was still a dick move on his part. He should have had better sportsmanship. And IF it happens to himi 2-3 times a week, that doesn't give him the right to do it back. He could be the bigger man and play the game, but he can't, he's a little baby and pulled off a weasel play. You know it, and I know it.

How was he wrong? By fooling the opposition into thinking someone on his team got it? I completely don't agree with you. Come on Thumper, players take steroids, doctor the ball, cork the bat, steal signs. Grounds crews water the field down when a speed team comes in, the Twins are alleged to have the AC blow out towards the fence when their team is at bat and the opposite when the other team hits, and you complain about this?

Part of the game. I would have no problem with every single player on my team doing it to every team on every play. IT IS PART OF THE GAME.

I really don't get you guys.

You say that, but you know if this started happening to the Yankee defense you'd be bitching like a woman in her period. And all the stuff you said above is wrong too, now you can't prove the Twins thing, but that has nothing to do with the PLAYERS. I'm talking about players who play cowardly, which A-Rod did.

Personally, I think A-Rod should not have done what he did, simply because he has to realize what people are going to make of it. On top of that, according to some links that have been posted in this thread it appears that what he did was actually against the rules.

However, I am curious about something you said...how does A-Rod play cowardly?

I remember Reggie not getting out of the way and throwing his rear end into a potential double play in 1978 in the World Series. Lasorda came out to argue, and many say it was a turning point in the series. Good show.

If it happened to my team, I would be annoyed, more because they lost then the act.

Oh so if they win' date=' it's okay, but if they lose, whaaa.[/quote']

Please learn to read. Try again next week.

Dirty no.

Do many people in baseball or outside the lines respect the way he plays the game? No

Im not sure whats worse....being labeled a dirty player, or having people of all ages inside the game (like HOFs, current players, rookies) and outside the game not respect the way you play the game.

Me personally.....you can label me a dirty player all day long, but you will respect the way I play the game.
