It's chill. It sucks to lose like that, but Papelbon will blow some and we'll have some tough losses...this being one of them. At the end of the day the Sox are still in first (I know it's May...) and we'll come back with Beckett tomorrow. Papelbon will be more intense than ever next time out, bank it. :papelbon:

Thought that was almost out. Still a lot of games left, unfortunately Paps didnt have his best stuff tonight. He better not be back out there tomorrow

Still a lot of games left, there will be games like these. No hope is lost whatsoever

I would certainly hope not. No one better be ready to throw into the towel after tonight...not even remotely close.

I beg to differ. If Paps gets out there tomorrow, guaranteed 3 strikeouts on 9 pitches.

I dont think anyone is ready to throw in the towel with a 16-9 record but a win is always better than a loss

maybe it gives the team a bit of a reality check

Paps at 34 pitches' date=' should he really be sent out tomorrow?[/quote']

nope, and we shouldnt need him tomorow with Beckett pitching agianst Gaudin

and even if there is a save situation,Okajima can handle it

The good thing to take away from this game is how perfectly we set it up for Paps.

2 run lead going into the 8th inning coming off of 7 strong from Schilling. Jima pitches a 1-2-3 inning (again!) and Paps comes in for the 9th. He does what every closer does at some points and blows the game. We for sure won't see that nearly as much as we see him blow batters away, so I'm not concerned. A win is always better, but at the end of today things are still fine. It's May 1st. No need to s*** pants over our lead in the standings quite yet (though we really do need to bury the Yankees as much as possible right now).

for now is the operative phrase.

I know. I finished the post without that last phrase and then I was like "oh s***, I should add this." And so I added it.

But the bottom line is, for THIS YEAR, I'd rather have Papelbon than Rivera.
