I just dont think the kid is ready . I really think we made a mistake to not bring back loretta for 1 season . He was solid all season . I like pedria but just think he needs lil more seasoning in AAA

I agree with you, I think we should have brought Loretta back for one year and have Pedroia slowly move into the 2nd baseman's role through the season...

I really think we did Loretta wrong . He just wanted one yr deal for 1 mill .we did not even talk to him during off season

There's a reason he wanted only $1 million. Do you know what that reason is?

Do you expect that success to last?[/QUOT

doubt it but wow 355 i dont think he ever had average that high here . Boy he was a stud in the field him and lowell got robbed of gold glove

He really played hard

Don't really care. The majority of players do play hard.

Alex Gonzalez OPS'd under .700. I don't give a s*** if he was TUFF N GRITTY, he still was a black hole hitter.

and come on our infield defense was probably the best in like 20 yrs

Dustin Pedroia has the potential to be better. He's been extremely unlucky due to the fact that his BABIP is .192. He's had some hard hit balls, they just aren't finding holes. In AAA for example his BABIP was .317, and he happened to hit .305.

He probably can get his average up around .290.

I think Gonzo's average peaked at .290 here. Him and Cora were hovering around .200 for the beginning part of the year

News Flash to who? we all know he's not hitting... but how do you expect him to get out of his no hitting slump' date=' he's gotta fight his way out of it by getting more ABs...[/quote']

He wont get more ABs with Tito playing Cora every other day. How is Pedroia able to get into an actual groove now if he's playing inconsistently? He might have better chance of getting playing time in Pawtucket

And Adam, Pedroia hasnt shown much early on in offense comparable to Loretta, but he definitely has shown the better defense.

This is just an attempt to sound smart, right? To say they weren't the BEST would be fine, but to say they weren't a good defensive team is just inaccurate. I mean, stats are nice when you can't watch every game. I watched every game and so did many others. They were a good defensive team, or at the very least, they had a good left side of the infield to be sure.

do I want A-Gone back? No. Do I want Loretta instead of Pedroia? No.

Isn't this also due to the fact that there pitching was horrible, and they had a lot of balls put in play, that were uncatchable? I don't really know what I'm talking about here but after watching most every game their defense was pretty solid.

yeah cause their pitching sucked....

look at this year ,redsox are 7th in that category so far this year , thats with lowell with 8 errors

Not that big of an impact. Give it up.

The Cubs finished 7th in DEF, and they were 24th in ERA.

Minnesota finished 19th, yet 3rd in ERA.

Nationals 30th in ERA, 12th in DEF.

San Francisco 7th in ERA, 22nd in DEF.

Milwaukee 25th in ERA, 14th in DEF.

For you to say that's definite cause, is far-fetched. If what you were saying was true, there wouldn't be this weird of a correlation.

look at this year ,redsox are 7th in that category so far this year , thats with lowell with 8 errors

Look at who they added.

Lugo, more range.

Pedroia, more range.

Drew, a lot more range.

Crisp is also playing a lot better this year in CF as well.

Plus, it's only been 22 games? Too small of a sample size.

This is just an attempt to sound smart, right? To say they weren't the BEST would be fine, but to say they weren't a good defensive team is just inaccurate.

They were great at catching the baseball, but not very good at going to get the baseball. I think you can admit that. Loretta, didn't have a lot of range. Gonzalez who has one the best gloves in baseball, has average range at best. Coco was terrible last year, Manny was well below average, so was Pena. It's not a huge coincidence that the Red Sox were rated this low.

They were a good defensive team, or at the very least, they had a good left side of the infield to be sure.

You'd admit that the Red Sox OF was pretty bad on defense last year?

didn't we have one of the top fielding % in the league?

Bad stat to use.

Posted

pedroia has more range does he ? is that why his RF is 3.38?

Lugo isnt a upgrade over gonzo

Pedroia ? 3.38 rf so far

drew isn't that big of an upgrade

Crisp is playing the same defense as last year

overall id say the defense is pretty even from last year to this year

Posted
pedroia has more range does he ? is that why his RF is 3.38?

Red Sox starting five GO/AO:

Schilling: .60

Beckett: 1.04

Matsuzaka: 1.06

Wakefield: .72

Tavarez: 3.20 (Pedroia's been in just three of his starts)

So you have two neutral pitchers, two flyball heavy pitchers, and one GB pitcher who might throw 5 innings at the most.

You can't get to a lot of balls if you don't have a lot of chances.

Besides, Pedroia has been probably a little below average this year, which is still an upgrade over Mark Loretta.

Loretta scored a -9 FRAA

Pedroia scored a -1 FRAA so far.

Lugo isnt a upgrade over gonzo

With the glove? No.

In terms of range? Yes.

Pedroia ? 3.38 rf so far

Small sample size, and with the fly ball tendencies of the Red Sox pitchers, we know why that that number is that low.

drew isn't that big of an upgrade

He scored a +12 last year in the field. Nixon scored a +6, and Pena scored a -1.

Crisp is playing the same defense as last year

overall id say the defense is pretty even from last year to this year

Why? Because you think that Crisp is playing the same? Last year, Crisp looked lost in CF, he's playing a much better CF this year. Probably about average, but it's still much better than last year's Iron Glove performance.

Posted
why? because of what he's done in the majors? did you know the great' date=' heralded rookie Alex Gordon is hitting .167?[/quote']No, because he has average skills, and even the scouting reports do not project him to be a star. His upside is average.
