Do you guys think Biggio will be in the Hall of Fame one day? He's 49 hits away from 3,000 and is still a pretty okay hitter with a .283 average, well over 300 stolen bases (410), only 16 home runs away from 300, going to be 20 years with the same team (Houston Astros), and trailing Carl Yastrzemski in doubles with 642.

He's been in 7 All-Star games, 4 Time Gold Glove Winner, 5 Time Silver Slugger Award, Houston Astros Player of the Year, and others.

I'd like to see him inducted into the Hall of Fame. He's got the rest of this season, which has really just begun, and the '08 season, which will most likely be his last, he'll be 42 by then.

What do you guys think about him?

He rounds out my top 5 favorite current players and my top 5 all time players, so Im biased. I just think this guy has had an amazing career, put up steadily wonderful numbers, especially in doubles, played a damn good second base, and holds the alltime record for being plunked. Not only that, hes classy, honest, philanthropic, and an all around f***ing awesome person.

Hall of Fame, watch out...here comes Craig!

Yea, buy current standards, I put Biggio in.

That said...my dad and I were debating stuff like this the other day...and we came to a decision that the HOF is going to get watered down by this era if the bar isn't raised. Basically, I feel like if a guy is even debated before going in, he doesn't belong.

I'm in favor of a one-time ballot for a guy...I don't feel like a guy should miss out one year and get in the next. If he didn't get in one year, in my mind, he's not good enough to be in. Mazeroski, for example. Doesn't belong. Great guy, hit a huuuuuuuge homerun...but doesn't belong in the Hall. You wanna put a guy like Mazeroski in the HOF alongside Mays, Mick, Teddy, and Ruth? Of course not. Now I understand that the guys I named belong in the Hall's HOF, if you will, but nevertheless, I think the bar has to be raised as we go further.

EDIT: Good thread, Thumper...btw.

I remember watching Biggio along side the Sox, since all we get down here are either the Astros, Rangers, or Braves.... pffft. But If I had to choose one current player, not a Red Sox player, to follow, like, and truely admire, it's Biggio hands down. His debut was just a few months before I was born, kinda shows how long it's been since he came in, and even after injury, he hasn't given up.

Aside from that, do any of you think he'd be good enough to manage one day?

Ya you cant ask for much more out of a 2B then what he has given.... 20 yrs with the same club in this day in age is something too...

his number would be retired too right ?

Most likely I'd assume so.

Biggio just has all around great play. I remember when he had his knee injury, a lot of people speculated that as the end of his career. But dammit if he didn't come back in '01 with a supurb season.

Btw- who's that fag on the right in your avatar? If I were Ortiz in that situation, I'd punch them right in the face.

As far as trolls go, you're on the low end of those I've seen.

Chin up though sport, you'll get there some day.

Here's a good question, maybe not hard, or maybe hard, but if the Sox got the opportunity to trade for Biggio, in by which Cora would be traded off, would you like the idea?

Adding Biggio to the Sox lineup would no doubt give us October games. I wouldn't mind losing Cora over it.

No.

Biggio is no longer the player he was back in his prime. He's atrocious with the glove, and below-average at the plate.

He's a .234 hitter in the postseason, and OPSes a woeful .620.

Why would you trade for this guy, again?

I don't see any reason why Biggio shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame he is one of the greats to ever play the game of baseball.
