the yanks will be in this thing until the end

any other mindset is flawed

mussina wang and petitte along with the best offense in baseball will keep them close enuff to be a pain in the ass

the phenom did what we expected him to do

dazzle a bit, lose his command early on and then pitch from behind all nite

torre using proctor last nite may have been the worst move of the early season

maybe he wants the summer off

I hate Joe Torre.

I honestly think I am getting Tourrette's and instead of swearing, I need to say something derogatory about Torre.

I know they have the O to keep them in it, and I agree it would be stupid to think ohterwise, but doesn't mean I can't have a little fun with it:thumbsup:

NY TIMES Headline: Yankees swept again...

The NY Yankees were swept this weekend at home by the hated rival Boston Red Sox. Dice-K threw a 2 hit shutout in the first games as Andy Pettite realized he should have stayed in Houston or retired gives up 6 runs in 3 1/3 innings. The BP looks like a mash unit.

Game 2 Wakefield out duels TBA for the 3-1 victory as Manny hits a 2 run home run in the 8th of off a pitcher made up of body parts of Scott Proctor, Kyle Farnsworth, and Andy Pettite?s left ass cheek. Game 3 JT goes 7 strong innings to stun the NYY fans, the Sox go on to win 6-0. The Yankees now sit 8 games back of 1st place, are in last place. Steiny is having daily chestpains and has developed terrets syndrome were he cusses Torre?s name at length for hours.

Finally in a last ditch effort to change the fortune of the Yankees, the beloved fans hold a mass suicide on the grounds of the new stadium. Bud Selig sees this as a bad message to the fans and shutsdown the NYY franchise....

Of course this is worst case scenario LOL

Terrets is going around the Yankee fandom and FO:thumbsup:

You know who this kid reminds me of? Mark Prior.

He has great stuff, but he appears to throw with all arm. I really hope he can stay healthy. Actually, no I don't. No maliciousness here, I just don't like it when the yankees win.

Hughes has been considered to have one of the most mechanically sound motions in the minors. He is described mostly as compact and if you wish to make any comparisons mechanically, then the one you should make is to the Rocket. They showed the two side by side and aside from a few small differences, they looked really similar.

Ya and Kerry Wood was the next "Rocket " and that didn't turn out so well. It's too early for any of us to guess how the kid will do, take it one start at a time and then you can look back on his body of work to tell weather he was good or not...

with an 8.36 era you cant compare him to anyone decent

give him 5 starts and lets see where he is at that point

if im ny i use him for 100 pitches a start and let him sink or swim

if hes fine mechanically its only his head that can be hurt

we'll know by the 1st of june what this kid has for real

Kerry Wood had pisspoor mechanics. He threw across his body and anyone with an ounce of pitching history could see it coming. Hughes has nearly the exact same mechanics as the rocket. Dont think he'll be the rocket as he is likely the best pitcher of the modern era, but to say Hughes throws all arm or has poor mechanics is bogus.

I agree. I was impressed by the usage of that changeup last night. He was using it as an out pitch and it was filthy.

..

From what I saw .

Fastball: 89-94 & flat .

Curve: His best pitch . + pitch .

Change: Average to below average .

Don't see why ppl compare him to Clemens .

Yeah, didn't see much of the change.

Curve is an A+ pitch, and if he can locate his fastball it'll be an OK pitch.

Didn't see many changeups.

It was a promising start, I think. His nerves definitely were getting to him in the first inning and he got beat by some very good hitters (the kind of hitters they don't have at AA or AAA.) But he went out there and was pretty good until the horrible call in the 4th that lead to two more runs. His stuff was pretty impressive for a 20 year old. Now that he has the burdens that come with a first start out of the way, hopefully he can just go out there and pitch next time like he's capable of.

It's a shame the Yankees have babied the kid during his entire minor league career; I would like to see him throw all of his pitches and be capable of being extended in a game.

his fastball is not flat. If you saw the guys whiffing on it, you would know that there is tail. A couple things. He threw 1 or 2 2 seamers. The change was very good. He threw it a few times. Had a lot of tilt and he located it well. Not sure what game you were watching Nate. His issue was the location.

1. I think his quick arm action was very deceptive. But from what I saw, the fball was kinda flat. It just got there a little quicker than the Jay's hitters thought.

. The hope is that Hughes will replace him in the rotation, and that he can build off the flashes of brilliance he showed against Toronto on Thursday night. The rookie fell behind 12 of the 21 batters he faced, and was knocked out in the fifth inning, charged with four runs, but nevertheless impressed the Jays with his 96 mph fastball.

"That fastball plays a lot better than what you see [on the radar-gun readings] on the scoreboard," said Toronto manager John Gibbons. "He's got a quick arm; he's got everything he needs. That [Yankee] team is going to score a lot of runs, so he's going to be fine."

2. If his change is an out pitch, why did he "only throw it a few times"? If it's a consistent out pitch, why not throw it more frequently?

I will say that the combination of a 94 MPH fastball and that curve have the makings of a really solid young pitcher. He just wasn't there last night.

The change is supposed to be a work in progress. In one inning of the game, Posada went to it as an out pitch and it was really good. Then he appeared to abandon it. It has some serious potential, but I am not sure if the kid has confidence in it all the way yet.
