I read this today about Clement

Former Red Sox rotation regular Matt Clement continues to make progress in Fort Myers, FL as he rehabs his right Shoulder. Francona said he texted Clement 'probablly three or four days ago.' The right-hander had arthroscopic surgery on his right labrum and rotator cuff in September and is now throwing long toss at 105 ft. Francona said that Clement has a ways to go. He's at the point where there's a lot of repition and it's boring, but he's got to do it,' Francona said.

That was from redsox.com. I just hope that after the surgery he can at least put up some decent numbers! I mean last he was 5-5 with a 6.61 ERA, he has a career ERA of 4.47 and he is 87-86 in the win/loss column.

I was just wondering what others thought? Maybe, when he comes back he'll be lights out or maybe he'll be like the 2006 Clement?

He will be a long way of from what he was in '04 or '05! He wasn't stellar or anything, but better than his '06 season!

I would just like to see him be able to pitch well again!

ryan, by the time he is ready to pitch again, and the timetable has him returning in August or so, the sox will have Lester as the 5 and Clement will be nothing but depth. I wouldnt pick him up in your fantasy leagues.

Whatever he is able to do, he will likely never dawn a Red Sox uniform again, hes a FA at the end of the year and I doubt the FO will want to keep him around...

Think he could come back as a mid-relief at first? Give him one or two innings to see how he holds?

Ya, who knows what our pitching staff may look like after the All-Star Break...

I would like to see him come on and tear up as a mid relief! But, as for mid-relief, I think thus far has been solid! Brenden Donnelly is going to help bolster the relief as the season goes on!

I don't see him getting back to the majors this year, maybe some starts or appearences in the minors, or if our MR situation is horrid, I wish they could dump him in a trade as an add on, but I doubt anyone would take him before he throws... I dont think the Yankees are even that desperate for pitching...

Anything new? I thought the original prognosis was the middle-end of July for this guy. Not that it really matters, but I am curious to find out what happens with him when he is actually cleared to play baseball again.

well the good news is ' date=' its his last year here ![/quote']

weirder things have happened than someone getting hurt, and a guy you dont want around filling in, and doing a great job.

Ask Julian Tavarez about Boston fans crying for your head. Although Tavarez seems like a tough hard nosed passionate ballplayer and Clement is a pansy wearing a dress hiding for 2+ years.

As bad as it has been.......think about this: We got more value outta him, than the Yanks got with Pavano, now thats just outright sad.

We would be lucky to get a good month from the guy if he even is ready to come back, and as a reliever???? The guy's control is far from perfect and has never been very good. He does have good stuff but I think that shot he took in the head in mid summer 2005 pretty much did him in. I also question his toughness. I have never questioned his stuff. His ball moves all over the place but what is between the ears means a lot as well, and mentally I wonder if he has the toughness to come back.

I don't see him pitching for this team at all ever again. Maybe he'll be a non-roster invitee for Pittsburgh next spring training or something

I heard an interview with Tito a couple days ago where he said they expect to have Clement back with the sox in september.

yeah maybe as a spot starter...to rest one of the regulars who could use as little more time off prior to the playoff push.

Clement is still alive?

Hate to say it.....but I kind of want to see what he can do. Who knows, could he really be worse than Tavarez or Wake at this point (okay I already know the answer to that question). Maybe I just want to see a new face getting his ass beat in instead of the usual suspects.

The possibility of him returning is intriguing though.

If he was a lefty he may have some value in a comeback. My guess is that he won't pitch again in the big leagues.
