Hughes f***ing sucks. I hate that guy. He hasn't done s*** for the Yankees. Great prospect. Emphasis on prospect.

Dont give up on the kid so early. Good deal of great pitchers didnt do so hot their first go around. Greg Maddux had a 6+ ERA for example

Back around the All-Star Break I figure the Red Sox to end with a 95-67 record. At this point they would just have to go 15-16 to get to that mark. It would have to take one hell of a slump for the Sox to lose their grip on the AL East

Hey Jacko....still thinks this Hughes idiot is a good pitcher?

He's not even the best rookie on the staff. That goes to Chamberlain. This guy is pathetic. s***** location, slightly above average fastball, nearly zero control on his breaking pitches.

I have not seen anything about this kid that impresses me so far.

It's funny because you even look bad insulting your own team. Your assessment is pretty far off on many levels. Hughes will be fine. He's extremely young and shouldn't necessarily be pitching at this level at this point. You're willing to given Chamberlain the world even though he's thrown--what?--fewer than 10 IP. What a joke Gom. Do you take yourself seriously or do you just vent whatever comes into your brain?

Furthermore, why get on Jacksonian for Hughes' performance. Even if he liked the guy his preference has nothing to do with how Hughes is used. In fact, if you're going to critique anyone go ahead and critique Cashman for setting up a team that needs to rely on a 21 year old down the stretch in big games against good teams like the Tigers just to battle for a Wild Card spot. I hope you're prepared to swallow your words in a year or two when Hughes is one of the best pitchers in the AL.

Still coming from the same guy who predicted

---Sox would finish in 3rd place, 86-76. Theres even a thread on that

---His recent rants (hasnt lived up to doing wrong yet) about the road trip the Sox are currently on. Tampa takes 2 out of 3, he wouldnt have been surprised if they swept Boston. I also liked him calling the Sox, pathetitic sticks

he'd better hope we go 6-25 in the last 31 games

Glavine in his 1st full season lost 17 games.

Alot of pitches start off not so great and end up solid pitchers. More guys start off great and fizzle out quickly, Wood, Prior come to mind off the top of my head, those where because of injury but alot of guys you don't even know there names started off great and where the next big thing and now we don't even remember them.

You gave up on this team in May...

I didnt think the yanks would be a sub .500 team all yr, I just didnt think the sox would let us back in it the way they were playing. But the sox opened the door for awhile, and then juist slammed it shut.

In terms of Hughes, his past 2 starts have really shown something. Against Anaheim, it was obvious he didnt have his best location, but he held the lead into the 7th, when he was let down by the pen. Yesterday, he got hit early, but then went into shutdown mode and held the game at 1 run. He's a 21 yr old pitcher with great stuff who has a great mentality who is showing improvement in approach against 2 of the best teams in the game. I am intrigued to see how he does in 2 weeks against the sox.

The Sox never let them back in, the Yankees just took a f***ing hacksaw to the door of the AL East. The Yankees have done most of their damage since the all-star break and the Sox are something like 26-17 since the break which means the Yankees played out of their minds for awhile.

in defense of Gom all the ballwashing about phil hughes being the savior may have led him to actually believe the hype.

the ny media is f***ing brutal in assessing their talent

how dare anyone lay their season at the feet of a 20 year old kid while they hand out 15M checks to mussina 28M to raja 10M to pavano and god knows how much they paid that stiff igawa

good afternoon mr cashman

place of last employment please?

the yanks have started off flat every year this century but this year our pitching depth was too much for them to overcome and their response in may was signing clemens and then standing pat at the all star break

cashman failed miserably this season and should be the fall guy in october but the yanks future isnt all that bad with chamberlain hughes perhaps karstens as well

how long will mussina stink the bronx up?

will they try and offer clemens 30M along with arod??

id like to think so

all in all it was a banner f***ing weekend and i had the pleasure of discussing this season with sox fans in conn ri nh me and of course mass and most of us are in agreement that this is the best talent we've ever had waltzing into september.

The reason we still have Chamberlain and Hughes is because Cash refused to deal them for a quick fix like Texiera. What high impact pitchers were on the market this year anyway? Cash didn't drop the ball, the players just didn't perform to what they're expected until it was too late to catch the Sox. Hopefully Seattle gets a cold spell (God knows they're due for one) and we work our way into October. All that matters is getting in.

Guillen absolutely smoked one into deep center, but Melky tracked it down (would have been a triple, maybe an inside-the-park homer, if Damon was out there). 1-0 on the sac fly, and Verlander just sat the Yankee bats down 1-2-3 in the second. He looks pretty sharp tonight. However, the most recent trend for the Tigers' staff has been to suck ass after getting off to good starts, so I'm praying that Verlander pitches like he should.
