Even Tulowitzki's cannon wasn't getting A-Rod there. On another note, A-Rod has a bloody nose.

And out of the inning!

And Andy Phillips is the Yankees last hope... get the brooms out.

edit: and Phillips should've walked... what a terrible call...

GAME OVER! Rockies sweep the Yankees!

It's cool, because after this weekend the Sox have 18/21 at home.

But then again, I fully expect a Yanks sweep this weekend.

Wouldn't be shocked if it was 8.5 after this weekend again.

But with the ebb and flow of a season the sox lead is bound to fluctuate. It is demoralizing for the Yankees to go on a huge run, cut into the lead, and immediately lose 3 games back to the Sox.

It is like a marathon runner attempting to pass the leader and being held off, falling back to gain strength and attempting again. Teams can only have so many of those runs in them against a fluctuating 10ish game lead, and I bet the Yankees have about 2 or 3 more such runs left. At this point the Sox are definitely in the driver's seat.

I didnt even know that Phelps was put on waivers

Pirates claimed first baseman Josh Phelps off waivers from the Yankees.

We hope Brad Eldred wasn't too excited about getting promoted to the majors. He'll likely return to Triple-A to make room for Phelps, who will likely serve as a pinch-hitter and occasional first baseman against lefties. That he can also be a third catcher makes him especially attractive to the Pirates, who like to use Ryan Doumit at other positions. Still, he might not have any fantasy value at all.

Clemens had his first bad outing. You know you'd take him right now.

BTW, Jeter has now made his second bonehead running mistake on the same type of play in the last 2 days.

lol wut?

"The base hit helped us but it didn't help him," said Torre, who said Clemens got gassed because of a combination of the 93-degree weather and the high altitude.

"I was taking deep breaths on the mound. My mouth got dry a couple times," Clemens said. "That was the more difficult part. Heat or cold is not a big deal. The one inning a storm blew in and the wind changed direction. The wind hit my chest and caused me to throw the ball out of the zone. But I made the adjustment. Then, the wind started to blow straight out."
