He's at 64 through 6.

I'd still like to see some more hitting. This is the only inning where we've actually plated runs in lieu of them being handed to us.

The only thing that will save Coco from slipping below the Crespo line by Sunday is God (weather - and likely).

SOTK, as long as they keep winning, I'll keep providing mojo and talking to myself.

He's got to go 0 for his next 5 to be at the Crespo line.

There's a lot to be said about Schilling having the best K/BB ratio in history. Especially since he's there with Pedro and Cy Young at the top of the list.

Those sound like HOF numbers to me. That statistic alone is worthy in my opinion. I really think the bar should be VERY high, but this guy is a tremendous pitcher and I would put him up against Drysdale or Catfish any day.

I know we've talked about it before, but what the hell, its a baseball game....

they were talking before the game about Ichiro's free agency. How would he look in CF next season, leading off for this team? Would it be worth paying him a Drew-like contract (or something close), or is that too much?

If people are too enthralled with the game feel free to not respond. Like ORS, I like to talk to myself too.

I agree. He's a Hall of Famer.

He's better than both Drysdale and Catfish, and they're in.

He'll be 34 at the end of the season, and he's had two consecutive OK years. (OK, for Ichiro)

2005 OPS+ - 109

2006 OPS+ - 109

2005 EQA - .294

2006 EQA - .297 (accounts for stolen bases)

I don't think he's worth Drew's contract, but I'd go 3 X 11.

Why go for somebody with the same skillset as Ellsbury, but on the wrong side of 30? I know this comment will stir 700 from his slumber, but I mean it. I was more wait and see with Pedroia because while his performance numbers were very good, there was still the unfavorable scouting reports. I think Ellsbury is can't miss at a CF-Leadoff prospect.

About that I agree. I suppose it would make sense if you could move Manny, have Drew go to LF and put Ichiro in RF. I think it is fair to say that Ichiro has 5 years left in him or so, given his tremendous conditioning and lack of speed loss.

I'm not into moving Ellsbury, but I would be keeping my ears and eyes open. I mean, if the Marlins come asking for a package including Ellsbury for a guy like Cabrera then I could see doing that and trying to land Ichiro for CF.

Otherwise I agree. You're right, a700 is stirring and he's angry!

For as semi-crappy as this offense has looked this season, the pitching has been nothing short of outstanding.

EDIT: I bet the yankees would pay 52 million if the Matsuzaka biding happened again tomorrow.

I'd gleefully trade Ellsbury, Buchholz, Bowden, Bard, Anderson, and Place for Miguel Cabrera. I don't mind moving him for a legit young stud like that.

He could play CF next year and when Ellsbury is ready, Ichiro could slot back into RF. He has a canon for an arm. Drew could then slot to left for the last 3 years of his contract, because Manny will be gone by '09 if not sooner.

If that is the timeframe and usage, I could get on board.

I suppose we're getting to know each other pretty well. Good call ORS!

I agree with you a700. I mean, I certainly wouldn't complain about the move or about giving Ellsbury a little time to get ready. I wouldn't wait too long on Ellsbury though, he is just a productive player; he scores runs, plays ++ D (sans arm) and makes things happen on the field.

How many years would you give Ichiro?

An OF of Drew, Ellsbury and Ichiro would be tremendous defensively and would add a TON of speed to the lineup as well. If Ichrio were interested I would be offering him something sweet.

I think I would give him 4 with a mutual option' date=' in the range of 11-13m a year.[/quote']

I could live with 4.

Does anyone know the rules regarding revenue streams from foreign nations? I could imagine the signing of Ichiro would make the Red Sox, the team of Japan.

It could bring in a lot of revenue from the Far East.

As far as merchandise goes I believe it is shared everywhere except for in the team's stores. So the stores right near Fenway I think that money goes directly to the Sox (according to LL at least it does).

Crespo, the int'l revenues are like the revenues here. Broadcasting rights and merchandise to go MLB and are split 30 ways. Now, that isn't to say there aren't opportunities. If Boston had two Japanese mega-stars there are all sorts of corporate partnerships, in park advertising and product placement, and non-baseball programming on NESN opportunities. I think this year they released less tickets to the public and set some aside for Red Sox Travel that they sell in Japan. They don't get any more money out of the tickets, but the travel agency service does. It's not mega money, but it all adds up.

Four sounds good to me, but if these two guy could bring some revenue on from Japan, it would be well worth it.
