Why don't the Sox go after Cantu? He is better than Pedroia in my opinion, and wouldn't cost them much. Does Pedroia have that much potential, or is Theo sleeping on the job?

For as monstrous a season as Cantu had in '04, he fell off a cliff completely the last few years.

I'd rather give the unknown with potential a shot than a washed up guy.

Cantu is what? 26, 27 yrs old. He is far from washed up. He just needs some good coaching to get the mechanics back. It isnt like the guy doesnt have the potential to be a middle of the order hitter, he proved it. He just needs the right coaching to get his swing back, and the drays system lacks solid coaching all around.

Or it could be the "s" word.

well, Cantu could be dipping into those horse roids they use in the dominican. Actually, Cantu is Mexican, but you get the idea. The guy has the same acne scars as Tavarez, maybe they mean something. Hmmmm.

I just think this guy is better than Pedroia, and he'll probably cost less than a bar of soap. Wait and see, Pedroia will be one of the worst offensive second basemen in the AL this year.

If he's better than Pedroia, than why is he starting the season in Triple A?

If he does struggle defensively at 2nd, we always have Alex Cora. No one knows how Dustin is going to perform this season.....but I'll be sure to wait and see

Umm..because they have Upton?

So you would rather have Cora than Cantu?

I'm just saying, there is an upgrade for the Sox in Tampa that will cost a bar of soap. Why not get him?

I'm happy with the Sox team as is. And I do like Alex Cora.

Cora is a hustler... provides very good defense, and the occasional clutch hit, sac, walk...

and did I hear somewhere that Cora could pitch... of course not as any bullpen help but I mean in the situation that Dave McCarthy did a few years back... anyone remember?

Cantu's big year was actually in 2005, and he broke his arm last year that caused him to miss 60 games and he still still hit 14 hrs, with 62 RBIS. I am actually not sure if his injury was an arm injury or a foot injury but never the less this guy is probably not washed up and it might not be a bad idea to take a flyer on this guy if Pedroia struggles in april.

That really shouldn't be considered in any player evaluation or comparison. Any position player could pitch if needed and usually then only use that when the game is out of reach and the bullpen is fatigued from previous games or used.

it was a little joke, you took it too seriously... I believe Cora pitched in his previous year in like High school or whatever and I heard an announcer say Cora could pitch... and I'm obviously not considering Cora as a relief pitcher that's why I compared him to Dave McCarthy(who is a position player and who pitched once or twice a few years back)

Hey fellas, if the Sox wouldn't go after Loretta why would they go after Cantu? I'm actually not totally against Cantu as a AAA option or backup guy, but if you can't win a starting job in TB you can't win one in BOS.

Also, you'll be wrong about Pedroia. He's a good 2B and will show it over the course of this season.
