Watch burns actually be a 4ft tall dominican player with a purple glove or something. This might be my favorite thread ever.

First of all, I am glad that Hansen did not pitch and ruin his trade value. Second, it is common that the PA guys and score keepers in Fla mess things up. The guy in FT. Myers regularly announces changes an inning late. He was constantly mixing up Soto and Rodgers. The guy in Minnesota can't pronounce any of the visitors names etc. They are not very professional or diligent.

Ft. Myers you say? Well I'll tell you in all my years of whipping my skippy' date=' I've never known a ball player to not go to the park with his team. What is it with this Hansen character? I"ll tell you what, he's a whipper snapper who's name is crud to my ears right now. He was probably listening to rock music the whole time he wasn't with his team to boot. [/fred']

Close, right?

LMAO!

I've got it VA!!!! Burns either looks a helluva lot like Hansen or he wore his number or both. There I think I've finally got it. I'm not looking at that damn box score any more. Your word is good enough for me. No more from me on yesterday's game.

Thanks Fred. It's all good, only ST............patience young Jedi.....;)

The thing that gets me is Scaffolds says hes a scout but he thinks Hansen pitched.... Weird...... But all the box scores now say Burns....

the same dimensions as the brazilian chic tom brady is humping

when i think of a relief pitcher i see the mad hungarian al hrabosky

or a dick raddatz or perhaps a goose gossage

someone with a drinking problem, social issues and a tendency to beat the s*** out of kittens after a loss...sparky lyle comes to mind....

a guy who would throw at his kid on father sons day and since my dad doesnt have a major league arm

im thinking a tug mcgraw/bobby thigpen personna

maybe someone with a weird windup and delivery

eck had that going for him

Young Jedi??? Man, you made my day VA. Been a helluva long time since someone actually called me anything resembling young. Well, we take our compliments where we can get them and be thankful that they still come now and then. Anyway, you thoroughly convinced me who pitched in that game. I wonder whatever gems the announcers are going to come up with the rest of ST?

Take a good look at Craig Hansen's face Crunch. Does the word candyass seem somewhat appropriate. Unless there is an animal in the interior of that body I wonder if he has the persona to be a bastard out on that mound when facing Jason Giambi in a September showdown at Fenway Park. He sure didn't last August in that extra inning debacle of that overall debacle that ruined our season.

ROTFLMFAO!!!!! Sure Crunch, looks can be deceiving but he has that solid look of a pansy to me. Someone wrote once that he did seem to lack competitive fire; I just can't remember where I read that. Anyway, he gets a chance to show his stuff tomorrow and the field is wide open. No reliever has distinguished himself that much so far so the ball is in his court. I am happy to report that the relief pitching today was very good. Maybe the worm is finally starting to turn down there in the bullpen. I can dream, right?:o :o :o :o

Ok, I've met craig a couple times, a friend of mine from high school knows him personally and I have to say there is NO WAY he is only 180 pounds. The guy is thick. He might not look it compared to other ball players on TV but he is actually massive. 180 is such a low estimate. I weigh 210, and I would be shocked if he wasn't heavier than me.
Posted
ksushi, ok, he is better put together than a lot of us thought, but does he have that competitive fire? I would be jumping for joy if he does because he might be given a good shot at that closer's role---especially if he can go out there and give us some good innings this Spring. I mean, no other guy has stepped forward ahead of the pack, and even though it is early, these days have a way of slipping by very fast. Let's keep our positive vibes going tomorrow so we can root Craig home with a good outing.

I'd put money on the fact he'd put you in a wheelchair.

Jesus, give him a freakin chance before you write him off.

Considering that I have over 40 years on him that is really a brilliant shitpile observation on your part. How long did it take you to come up with it?

As for giving him a freakin chance before I write him off, where the hell did I say I was writing him off? I said we could use a good performance from him tomorrow and I was wishing him well. I think you might have a tad trouble discerning the meaning of what you read Kilo. What you've been hearing from me if you have followed it carefully is that I am very concerned about our bullpen. You disagree with me on that, do you? That right now is our achilles heel and anyone who can shine in that department would be a welcome shot in the arm for all of us. Or do you see something wrong with that as well?

I can't speak to whether or not he has some competitive fire in him. I met him a couple times briefly, but from what I see on the field he has VERY good stuff. People don't get how rare 97 plus MPH velocity is with his kind of control. Not to mention the slider. Its dirty stuff. He needs to get his feet under him, stop pitching for the radar gun and go back to using that filthy sinker he used in college.

You calling him a candyass and questioning his desire for the game is fairly close to writing him off. It's OK though, because once he starts to do well I fully expect you to hop back on the Hansen bandwagon.

all this with an era that NASA scientists are called in to calculate

i heard about this 97mph heater

havent seen it in 2 years but ive heard about it

lets hope the boy starts to live up to the billing

nobody would be happier watching this guy succeed than i

There you go with that bandwagon s*** again Kilo. Stop it!!! It only tells me you're naive to believe a couple of dorks that you respect no more than I do. Let's put this to bed right now and right here. If you read my post completely he gives me the IMPRESSION he is a candy ass. I saw him pitch and had the binocs on him and he looked like a deer facing an oncoming headlight. Whether that was the right impression or not it was my impression. Now, again, if you have some enlightened info for me to the contrary please fill me in.

One more thing. I do NOT want him to fail; would love nothing better than to see him succeed to the max. Now, let's both shut up and instead root for him to pitch well this afternoon in his maiden appearance of the season.

if this argument is based simply on body language and statistics then we can write hansen off

however

he was brought up as an 18-19 year old and obviously wasnt ready

he is worth less today than he was 2 years ago in the trade market

im not sure of the answers

evidently the boy has the arm but the head has to follow in order for him to be quality

derek lowe comes to mind here

it took him 5 years to get any kind of success and he was almost 30

No, we've seen the heater. The slider is what we're still waiting on.

If you haven't seen the 97, you haven't seen him pitch. I think his slider looks dirty, he just isn't missing bats with it because he hasn't been locating his fastball well because he tries to throw it through the back stop and loses it.
Posted
You can't throw anything by a major league hitter when they know its coming, thats his problem. 97 isn't automatically unhittable just because its 97. Having a 97 mph fastball doesn't make you instantly successful. You have to learn how to pitch to professional hitters and most of this guys life has been spent pitching to amateur hitters. The best amatuer hitter can't even hold the worst professional hitter of any level's jock strap. Hansen needs to learn how to set guys up with the fastball so he can get the slider by some bats. He needs to use his sinker which he got away from last year when a lot of scouts thought Hansen got wrapped up in the radar gun readings. We'll see.

hansen is out of the running for closer and perhaps has pitched himself out of the sox lineup based on his horrible spring

http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=189625

and with all the talk surrounding who will get the job nobody here has mentioned bryce cox who has put up some gaudy #s recently

2 weeks till we begin

roles need to be defined and they need to be defined now

Bryce Cox should not see the majors until Sept at the earliest. He still needs refinement. Especially when you have a kid who had some serious control problems in the past, his repetition of delivery is essential to his well being. And if he is rushed, he may revert to old forms. Let him get comfortable and get his s*** down and see what he can do as a Sept callup.
