I think is all speculation. Heyman has no real basis for saying that the trade talks have picked up, he just thinks they will. I don't see any of this happening.

And anything that trades Manny for any hitter not named Pujols or Soriano is a bad deal

Alright, obviously Helton isn't Manny, but Helton is less high maintenance, and isn't a pain in the ass like Manny, but Manny does drive in the runs... in that article it does say the Helton does have a great swing for Fenway... But, Helton does cost almost the same as Manny and has more years on his contract...

I hope the Sox don't waste Wily Mo and they try and ease him into that Left Field spot hopefully next year, if he's ready, but the only thing is what would they do with Manny...?

I can imagine Wily Mo is a little tried of sitting on the bench when he put up the numbers he did last year... ok ok maybe Im expecting a little much of him now, but I think he'll be great in the near future...

EDIT: ^I know this last part is a little random^

Id rather take mann and his act then a player on rapid decline.

I'll take Manny and his consistent .300 average, 30 home run, 120 RBI seasons and his "attitude." What does his attitude have to do with anything? If the man produces those kinds of numbers, he has the right to be an annoying bitch.

Helton? HELTON? I'd like him, but for Manny? No way. Noooooo way. Helton's past his prime and could help our club this year and next year, but he's on his decline and staying healthy will be a concern. We already have one health project with JD Drew, we can't give up Manny and then have Helton sit out half of the season.

helton is signed for 5 more yrs. Manny for 2. If you want to get out from under contractual burden' date=' this isnt the way.[/quote']

Manny's contract isnt even that bad anymore. Compared to what guys like Soriano and Lee got this offseason.

True, Im just really sick of all of Mannys ********, and its the off-season, there's no baseball, im going crazy...

Honestly Manny is not a pain in the ass unless you are just that gullible and tuned in to what the media says. What does manny ever actually say? what does he really do? He never misses games or anything.

well the last six weeks of the season he missed. I do believe the injury was legit though. But the if the guy played the whole season he would have had 45 hrs and driven in 135 runs. So ill take Mannys B.S if Manny's B.S. even exists.

right there with you bro untill manny hit like 230 i dont care what he does .. come on 340 average 40 homers 130 rbis .. he can come to camp any time ..he has never been a cancer like nomar so hes wierd .. he still mashes the ball and produces so utill that ends hes a red sox till the end

Everyone acknowledges that he's a great hitter. That's not the issue.

The issue, to me, is that for whatever reason Manny indicates that he hates playing in Boston. He treats it like a job that he is hoping to get fired from, which sets up an interesting dynamic for the poor saps (us) who would all give our left and right nuts to play on that team or even have regular access to that world. To me he shows such a lack of self-awareness that it is actually humorous.

I don't believe he does it out of spite. I think he's a little lazy and very aloof to pull some of the s*** he pulls. He KNOWS people will say 'Manny being Manny' and he plans on putting up the same crazy numbers that he always does to repay fans, owners and teammates for being tolerant of that crap.

If he has a really s***** year this year I would hope he would be in camp on time next season.

I wouldn't mind Helton on this team, but not without Manny. If you can have a lineup with WMP (when he's playing) hitting 7th or 8th then you're in really good shape offensively.

I believe it's speculation' date=' and this would be a terrible, terrible move. Like someone else said, unless I see the name Pujols in return, there's nothing that could bring back equal value.[/quote']

Ryan Howard, David Wright, Jose Reyes, Carl Crawford, Mark Texiera, Vlad Guerrero, Travis Hafner, Miguel Cabrera, Lance Berkman, Ichiro Suzuki, Carlos Beltran.....I'd take more than just Albert Pujols.

Players such as Carl Crawford, Ichiro Suzuki, and Jose Reyes wouldn't make great sense because they don't replace Manny's power....but they are better players.

Nonetheless I don't view Todd Helton in this elite group anymore.

It is too late for the Red Sox to sit on Manny Ramirez because the discipline train left the station years ago. They have let him get away with his nonsense since they signed him, but, then again, the guy hits 315, 40 homers and 130+ RBI's and how the hell can we replace that? Helton wouldn't put up those numbers anymore and, besides, if we traded them even up we would be too lefthanded and vulnerable to good left hand pitching. As long as his teammates don't mind and he does the job leave the guy along and let him produce for us. Besides, I don't want to see Papi become the walking machine.

I gotta agree totally...

that's what really gets me, he has my dream job and he ********'s it, I would LOVE to play in the majors not to mention play for the Red Sox...

but I guess some of these guys see baseball as a job more than a dream, that they once saw it as...

It's always been a job. One of the reasons that Manny is so great is that he doesn't get caught up in the BS and hoopla. He prepares hard and approaches his AB's in a very professional manner. He may not hustle all the time and he may space out at times, but he knows that he is paid for his hitting, not his base running. He takes his hitting very seriously.

Yes he does get paid to hit but he also gets paid to patrol left field, now I will give it to the guy, he plays the monster like no one else, I mean he doesn't even have to look when he throws, I just didn't like, for instance last year when he said he had a bad knee, but he still could have played but he didn't, and this year, he's going be late to ST because of his mother, that's fine but he was going to go to a car auction but now he's not probably cause the Red Sox said something...

I will agree that the media portrays Manny a lot worse than he is, he's one of the best ball players I've seen...

I just don't understand why he hates Boston and doesn't want to play here... I know if he did want to play here he would play better, because he would want to be here...

He probably could have played through it if they had been in contention, but they were out of contention in large part because the FO gave up on the team. Why should MAnny have put his career and health at risk when the FO didn't care enough to get needed help for the team.

He definitely does not get cought up in the hoopla. That's for sure. He IS the hoopla and he's totally unaware of it.

Somehow he manages to just be one of the best hitters who has ever played. He does take his hitting seriously. Honestly, I was HAPPY last year when I heard him talking about being aware of his legacy and not wanting to tarnish that. From a lot of athletes that would be an annoying comment, but coming from him it made me think there was someone upstairs in Manny's head.

He doesn't hustle all the time and he's never enthusiastic about being with the team... of course, given the recent media crush on ST I once again have to consider what it must be like to actually BE Manny. I mean, Matsuzaka has a mad crowd around him but Manny has, for years, been a comparable media magnet and has never handled it well. He's not as bad as A-Rod in terms of putting his foot in his mouth, but he just disappears from the media and doesn't address things very well, ever.

I guess I just can't fully trust that Manny won't just walk away Ricky Williams style one of these years leaving the Sox in a huge lurch. I don't want to waste a season trying to recoup from something like that.

not to change the subject but... if this deal were to go through i got to figure its not manny for helton straight up with money switching hands, so who else would we be getting? ML ready prospect, someone a few years away with great potential? would the rockies be willing to give that up for manny? cause i dont think manny for helton is gonna cut it with theo, and it wouldnt cut it with the fans, in other words how much more realistaclly do the rox need to give if this were to happen?

Castig, maybe if we expand the trade talks to include Brad Hawpe and that Fuentes kid we could make it a blockbuster deal. I think, though, that it would cost us a prospect or two as well as Manny and, say, Mike Lowell. Just my opinion.
