When dealing with a player that has a contract like Todd Helton has at his age, his decline in productions there are questions, but there is facts and there are speculations,

Questions;

1- Is Todd Helton healthy?

2- Is his decline in production due to health issues, decline in abilities or due to lack of protection in the Colorado line up?

3- Would the Sox line up with Helton in it would be better than without?

4- Would the Sox line up with Helton be too left handed oriented due to the lack of a quality right handed bat other Manny?

5- Because of their salaries could the Sox carry Lowell and Helton on their line up for just 2007?

Facts:

1- When a organization has a player that his salary consist of 29% of their payroll it can't have much sucess and needs to move the player.

2- There are very few organizations in ML that could take a salary like Helton's and because of his no trade contract make a traded harder to do.

3- Because point 1 and 2 any organizations dealing with Colorado should have the upper handin trades talkand should only do a trade if their demands are made.

Speculation;

1- The rumor has the Sox sending Lowell, Tavares and at least a prospect to Colorado for Helton and cash. Could do this trade also include Clement and a prospect (besides Lowell ans Tavares) for Helton and less cash?

I read an article that said Helton's back was finally healthy this year and they believe he will return to form because of it. That would definitely make Sox lineup better.

His back issues were well known, but he also had some diggestive problem or some other issues that made him loose some strength.

Why is everyone worried about a lineup thats too LH? How many dominate LH pitchers are there to face? Santanna,Kazmir,Buherle,Sabbathia, and Pettite are the only real quality LH pitchers out there. The rest we will be facing will be RH for the most part, and having all those hammers on the Left side wont be a problem at all.

I couldnt agree more, plus I mean Lugo is Right, Coco is switch, Youk is right, Tek is switch, Willy Mo is Right... I mean its not like its all left handed; its would be very balanced.

Great point. The Yankees have a number of LH hitters (Abreu, Damon, Giambi, Matsui, Posada (S), Cano come to mind) and I don't recall ever thinking "Thank GOD they have all those lefties, that makes it SO much easier." If anything its the opposite. Most pitchers are RH. LH hitters do better against RHP than do RH hitters. Therefore, if you're going to have too much of something, be left handed not righ thanded.

Scaffolds, this is a good thread. You're a good contributer. I think that the amount of prospects provided in the deal will be inversely proportional to the amount of salary the Sox have to pay. For instance, in a deal for Ellsbury, Bard, Bowden and Hansen (just theoretically) I think the Sox could get the Rox to pay off like 80% of the remaining salary (financially still a + for Rox). For few prospects it will be considerably less.

That's why I think the Sox will ultimately buckle and send either Hansen or MDC in the deal, as they are both ready now talent, which makes them--in some sense--already more valuable than any of the 'B's' or Ellsbury. If the Sox send MDC as a way of getting anywhere near this 50% number I see thrown around I won't miss him a bit. I like him, I like his stuff, but he's replaceable. So is Hansen.

This guy is never going to be a starter, so his value is only so high no matter what. He could be great and I really like his stuff, but Helton could put this team over the top and Colorado is just BEGGING us to take him from them apparently. We should end up with Todd Helton at 1B next season.

Not to mention, Pettite isnt arguable quality.

Like Donut said, they have to jump on this deal and get it done, before cashman does something to prevent it.

Pettite is quality but not dominate, but he deserves to be mentioned with the LH pitchers of the AL thatshould be worried about.
