Excellent post. The guy has marginal major league talent at best. Hard work has taken him this far' date=' but it won't bring him much further. Over the course of his career, he's more likely to be the player that he was in the second half of 2006, and that is not very good. [b']I'd sell high on him and trade him for relief help if we get Helton without giving up Lowell[/b].

I disagree. Youk's offense would become much more valuable at 3B. Last year he had 102 Runs Created, Lowell had 76. Lowell is also much older and more expensive. Trading Youk instead of Lowell would be a bad, bad decision in my opinion. Youk would've been tied for 7th in RC for 3B's last year.

Third base like first base its a production position and just because Youkilis gets moved to third base it don't means there isn't a problem with the corners infielders, just that the problem its now at third base instead of at first and with a weaker defender.

Yes, you are right. But 1B is more of a production position. Look at the runs created numbers for the positions: 1B has 15 players with RC figures of 90+ while 3B had 11. This, in my mind, makes his production more valuable because 3B is a weaker offensive position.

Also, a Helton-Youk combo would've combined for 211 RC, while Helton-Lowell would've combined for 185 RC giving us a difference between the two pairs 26 runs. Anytime that we can get more runs I will take it.

This is so right on. Despite their differences in RC, they were only 1 run apart by VORP, which means there is about a 25 or so run difference between 3B and 1B. Youk's defficiency as a corner IF is hidden better at 3B.

That is a nice lineup, and a flexable one with Helton,Drew,Youk and Crisp having the ability to be plugged in at numerous spots. But they way I have it above is nice.

If we do land Helton he should hit 2nd, he has a better average a better obp and will see a ton of good pitches with having Ortiz and Manny behind him. I'm crossing my fingers hoping we pull this deal off.

Either way, the Lineup will eat starting pitchers up like the NYY lineup does. It will just wear them down. Can you imagine going to NY for a 3 game set then have to go to Boston for a 3 game set, The SP will be having cold sweats and nightmares at night.

I can understand why he doesn´t, with recent trades ending up the way they have. I f he trades MDC and he becomes a good RP then everyone will want to know and give him s*** for trading him, unless the Sox win a 1 or a couple of championships during Heltons tenure. I like that we are taking value in our young pitchers but MDC doesn´t look like he´s going to be a lights out kind of guy. But hes a relief pitcher, id rather see them send a reliever the other way instead of a starter.

well the question becomes what do you value most? MDC is a major leaguer, something that you cannot say about the 3B's. As a matter of fact, none of the 3B's will hit AA this yr until at least late august. They are a long way away from making an impact. MDC will be in the bigs this yr and he could pay dividends this season. Proximity to the majors is something of value as well.

he certainly is' date=' but not to the degree that Drew is.[/quote']

^^Why exactly?

Helton lost 15 lbs to an intestinal disease last year. Drew played in 146 games last year.
