i know mark sweeney

he played legion ball here in milford

i graduated from the same high school and with his older brother

i'd bet 10,000.00 that bonds couldnt pick him out of a lineup

Bonds is the biggest ass in baseball, his back will flame up next because of all the people hes throwing under the bus to try and make himself look better. If Mcgwire can't get into the Hall ol Barryroid won't see the insides either unless hes a paying customer. I wish the stupid bastard would just retire and disappear.

Really poor timing, right after the HOF vote where people were forced to consider what to do with guys who have only rumored ties to steroids. Bonds is linked concretely to amphetamines here (probably the anti-narcolepsy drug reported in "Game of Shadows") and his rumored ties to HGH make his use of steroids almost moot. This guy has been cheating for who knows how long. He should be made a Pete Rose. Let's discuss his getting into the hall in 20 years. Until then he can wait.

roids or not

If Barry Bonds stopped playing in 1998, before he allegedly started juicing, he was a unanimous, lockdown 1st ballot Hall of Famer.

Manny is also a 1st ballot. Ortiz is nowhere near the player Barry Bonds was.

stop it while youre ahead

bonds had 3 mvps when david ortiz was stealing mangoes

manny couldnt hold bonds jock on his best day and manny is the best right handed hitter ive ever seen in my life

hes a cheater??

i could give a s*** less

when gaylord perry was using a spit ball was that cheating??

no

they call that gamesmanship

2 things

pre steroid bonds was a 5 tool perrenial mvp and all star

and if he dont go into the hall of fame they shouldnt have 1

think of all the degenerates in the hall of fame

the ty cobbs who were out and out flaming racists as well as rogers hornsby who hit 424 1 year and won the triple crown a couple times

would babe ruth stand up to todays scrutiny??>

he wouldve been bounced from baseball for whoring and boozing before he was 30

i dont like bonds

i despise his attitude

i didnt like his dad either

lets be real

even if bonds has been juicing for say 7-8 years which he was,he was still the most dominant player on earth in the last 17 years...

his rage for the sports writers is legit as well

they gave terry pendleton the 91 mvp award

compare the 2 and tell me bonds didnt get f***ed

also consider how much money he made andy vanslyke bobby bonilla jeff kent and matty williams by being in the same lineup as him

i dont like barry bonds

i do love the way he played baseball all these years

Can I take that bet? They were/are teamates, after all.

(Interesting note: Sweeney is the one who set up and hosted the American Idol skit at ST last year where Barry dressed up like Paula Abdul.)

Linda

And by all reports Bonds willingly participated in that skit and had a good time. All the more reason to question why he would throw Sweeney under the bus. Also, what the hell was Bonds doing in Sweeney's locker?

Yes Bonds was a sure fire 1st ballot HOF before all this s*** happened.

It's been said he started taking the roids around the time Mcgwire and Sosa had the hole country in the palm of there hands with the HR numbers. He started taking them so he too could hit bombs like that and get the attention back on him, because when Sammy and Mark where hitting those couple of seasons Bonds was an after thought. It just goes to show you he is a "I'm the center of the universe"type of moron. He would do himself a favor by just leaving the game. He will only make it worse if he trys for Hammering Hanks record.

I might just be saying that because I really dislike him. But in all fairness we can just burn Barry at the stake and no one else. During this supposed "steriod era" it's been reported that a huge portion of ball players where using, everyday players, utility guys, SP,RP you name it there was someone probably doing it. I hate to say it but at this time in baseball the playing field was probably about as level as you could ever expect. If the pitcher throwing the ball was juicing, the ball was juiced and the guy hitting the ball was juiced isn't that just about the same as nobody juicing at all? Baseball and it's owners and everyone involved knew what was going on, but the game was back, the fans where back at the park with there familys watching our national past time. Thats all anyone cared about at the time not knowing what the consequenses for these actions would be.

Then Jose canseco didn't just throw people under the bus, he drove it. What he did was really low, after he was done in the game and no one wanted his swing and miss and fall down like a ballerina swing on there team anymore, he decided that he would make his money another way. He didn't care about the game like he proclaimed, he did it because it was big money and kept him in the spot light. But as a society we bought right into what he was selling, because lets face as a soceity( americans) we love our gossip and witch hunts. Everyone acted shocked and appauled when the steriod issue became public, but people lets be honest with ourselves, if you didn't think Canseco was on roids during his hay day then well you probably still beleive in the tooth fairy. The guy was the size of a linebacker and could have been a stunt double for Arnold in Terminator 2. There where alot of players who you could look at and tell the where doing something, Brady Anderson? Please that guy couldn't hit 50 hrs in Wiffel ball before that one season. But nobody cared, we like the offensive explosion, it brought the game back to life.

But know people want to act as tho the have a conscience, and label some as cheaters. If everyone was cheating then it's really not cheating anymore is it? What happened, happened, theres nothing we can do about it now. But unless they know every player that was using during that period, I can't label guys like Mcgwire, and Sosa cheaters. I think the best thing for baseball is to just focus on the now, Steroids are illegal now and if you get busted on them now you should pay the price. I honestly think in a few years we will look back and suspect many players of using HGH. Yes it inhances your performance but, is not illegal.

I don't know what to think of it, i'm still on the fence. I mean if using a natural substance that inhances your muscles and performance is ok. I mean when they first came to be used whenever it was, where the players thought of to be cheating? And therefore there stats they put up where false? Should a player that takes care of his body but eating right, lifting weights and all that be punished and his numbers questioned against say a guy who smoked, ate un healthy foods like Babe Ruth? If it's really the numbers , stats and records everyone is worried about it makes no sense. Is it a players fault for using the knowledge of his time to his advantage? Unless we outlaw weight lifting, healthy eating, training, and supplements, we will never really be able to compare numbers of players today to the players of yester year. If any of these guys make the HOF, there should be no note by there stats saying(steriod era or whatever), all these gys did was take a form of technology and use it to there advantage, same as anyone else would probably do, especially knowing it could make you millions upon millions of dollars and set your family for the next few generations. If your a mail man, and find a pill thta helps you get your routes done faster and that leads to a better life for your family, 9 out of 10 people would most likely do it.

Sorry for the rant everyone, but with all the steroid talk I figured I'd chime in.

great post man

to the point, succint and accurate as hell

even if bonds took roids then there were no rules against it

matty williams hit 40 in august 94 before the strike

you never hear his name mentioned

look at our man peteys head and how its grown since he had arm trouble

look at johnny damon, his head grew like crow magnum

he now throws back evolution 5million years

i dont care too much about records or what a guy does to get on the field

look at football for instance

(they claim to have the best system for roid testing)

shawn merriman will be cheered as if he were the christ this sunday despite his roid actions

giambi in ny is called the GIAMBINO just last year despite the roids confession

self righteous people and the glass houses they live in i find pompous and naive

let me just throw a few names out there....

Yaz is in the Hall

Reggie Jackson is too.

Eddie Murray, Dave Winfield, Gary Carter and Kirby Puckett are also in.

Christ, fkn Ryne Sandberg is in!

None of thse guys could hold Bonds jock, drugs or no drugs.

Bonds should be in or ya mighta as well end the whole concept. Oh, and Pete Rose should be in too.

Guys, the Hall of Fame is also about character. There are rules for people to follow. Now, was Barry Bonds a sure-fire first ballot hall of famer before the steriods [assuming they started in 1998]? Yes. However, certain actions someone may take may make him ineligible. Shoeless Joe Jackson was a surefire Hall of Famer. So is Pete Rose. Same with Bonds.

I don't think anyone is debating the fact Barry has put up the numbers, pre-steriods, to walk into the hall of fame.

Barry cheated. Plain and simple. Whether or not other's did or did not is irrelevant. No one cares about the Guillermo Mota's. We care about the Bonds's, Giambi's, Caminiti's, Sheffield's, etc. Especially Bonds, considering the record he is close to breaking.

Try not to forget this as well. If he did steriods, he broke the law. Not baseball's law, but the laws of our country. He used a performance enhancer to improve his body beyond what it was capable of doing on it's own. If that isn't cheating, I don't know what is.

^^I agree about the character point. It's why Jim Rice isn't in...he wasn't "good enough of a guy."

And yes, Barry Bonds exhibits the type of character that should not be found in the HoF.

But where do you draw the line on the steroid issue? It's gotta be either people are in or no one gets in.

As for McGwire, he should be in because he was an offensive force for an entire decade. Andro, steroids, whatever aside, he was one of the 5, maybe top 3 offensive players of the 1990s. And it sucks that he's going to take the fall for the majority of people who weren't clean and weren't as good as he was.

Say what you want about the treatment Palmeiro received, McGwire's candidacy for the Hall will be the first shot fired against steroid users.

difference between Bonds and Rose/Jackson is that he hasnt been expressly banned from baseball' date=' yet.[/quote']

Also true. Plus the fact that Bonds is better than either of them.

It's going to be REAL interesting when his name comes on the ballot.

Bonds still hasn't signed the 1-year contract yet. Will his deal be shelved like Drew's?

I think a lot of the hang-up on the deal has to do with Bonds's "entourage" in the locker room all the time.

Barry Bonds' buddies have become the biggest obstacle between the embattled slugger and the one-year, $20 million contract the San Francisco Giants offered him more a month ago.

Club executives are insisting the contract they offered to Bonds on Dec. 7 includes a proviso that would bar trainers, personal assistants, friends and other members of his entourage from the locker room at San Francisco's AT&T Park and other team facilities.

"The posse rule is the real sticking point in the Bonds deal," a baseball source familiar with the talks said. "Bonds doesn't see why anything needs to be different than in the past, or different from any other players.

SF is going nowhere this year. Why not let Bonds keep his damn entourage and retire after passing Aaron? Sabean is an idiot.

Well, first of all. I'd like to thank my hands for being so great.

And second, anyone who gives Barry Zito a $126 million deal is not the smartest.

Posted
The sides have been working to finalize complicated language in the contract that concerns the left fielder's compliance with team rules, as well as what would happen if he were to be indicted or have other legal troubles.

I guess his contracted will be voided like Denny Neagle should Bonds be indicted for perjury. Seeing Bonds being humbled is priceless.

Like I said, Sabean hasn't been the same since Nathan/Liriano. That may well have been his waterloo.
