Clement never has the 2nd best stuff in baseball to Hudson' date=' as Hudson never had the best stuff. You want to talk about best stuff 2 yrs ago, it was Randy and Pedro.[/quote']

Pedro 99 yes.....pedro in 04? No.

And ahhhhh....Randy Johnson has always been a 2 pitch pitcher. I think you need to re-evaluate your definition of "stuff". Stuff means that a hitter has to worry about one of many pitches a pitcher can throw to them. Every hitter knew exactly what was coming with 2 strikes, and nobody could do anything about it. Same thing with Mariano Rivera. Hes the best closer in baseball history, hands down. Rivera does not have stuff. He has 1 pitch. 1 unbeleivable pitch. Everyone knows its coming and it doesnt matter. If you want to talk about a closer with stuff, look at Trevor Hoffman or Keith Foulke in his prime. Does that mean Foulke is better than Mariano because he had more stuff? Not even close, but they both had something very unique, 3 pitches to choose from as closers. Foulke and Hoffman had some of the best changeups in baseball, Hoffman still does.

Pedros stuff consisted of a 2seamer, 4 seamer, nasty curveball and a screwball like changeup. When he lost his fastball, he lost his stuff and learned how to be more of a control pitcher. Especially in 04 and 05. We all know what happened in 06.

Stuff is another term for a pitchers repetoire. Randy Johnson has NEVER been a stuff pitcher. He has his fastball, and the slider. That is not stuff. That is a power pitcher. Clemens never had "stuff". Clemens was a power pitcher.

Let me quote from Lindys Scouting Report Baseball book:

"Scout- His stuff is electric. He can't throw a ball straight-four seamer, two-seamer, cutter, hard-tilted slider. When he's throwing strikes, he gets a ton of empty swings and ground balls."

Let me quote what they say about Tim Hudson.

Scout- "He can make the ball do a lot of stuff, and everything he throws seems to end up in the strike zone. He and (Matt) Clement have more life with their stuff than anybody."

This is what they say about Randy Johnson.

Scout-"He is not the intimidator that he once was. But hes no day at the beach. He has a real compact delievery for such a tall guy and real good command of plus power stuff. He pitches inside. He uses his slider front door, back door. He throws some splits only to give the hitter another pitch to think about."

Is Johnson a better pitcher than the other two? Yes. But he didnt have more stuff. He was simply more dominant because his best pitch was better than another pitchers arsenal or "stuff".
