1 year, $7 million

I guess this means we won't be trading Manny to them

Colletti gave a big FU to Boras and his clients. Schmidt, Pierre, Lieberthal, and Gonzalez are all non-Boras clients.

He was able to rebuild this team without giving up one prospect, keeping the top rated system intact. The future looks bright.

On the other hand, Gonzo sucks without the roids.

agreed....i still think all this does is just add depth on the bench as either a PH or to spot start. shy of kemp/ethier regressing, i can't see him as a regular starter...with all the surplus outfilelders and starting pitchers something tells me we can expect a trade closer to the all star break or trading deadline.

He had a decent year last year, hit 300. with 17-20 hrs and about 75 RBIS

I'm pretty sure he's gonna be a starter. Kemp is probably gonna start the year in the minors, so it looks like he's gonna be the man.

Louie Louie has always been a talented ballplayer and a great clubhouse man. I don't know of anyone who has ever said a negative thing about him. He will be good for the Dodgers, but if they think he is going to replace Drew they better put the crack pipe down. He is 39 coming off two average seasons and he is going to keep Matt Kemp down on the farm for another year when the young outfielder might be ready. Luis will definately be in the starting lineup for the Dodgers. They didn't get him to pinch hit and he is not a pinch hitter in his career as of yet. Colletti is a sharp cookie and he kept his young players in tow but so did the Angels last season and they came up a buck or two short. The Schmidt signing is a spot on A+, but Pierre at $45 mil for five years? I'd call that a little excessive for a guy with no power, a very average stolen base success rate and one that made 400 outs last year. They may still make it but not if Nomar and Kent come up lame again.

Matt Kemp is close, but isn't ready yet. He had a hot start last year, but then he became acquainted with the all-mighty curveball and off-speed pitches. When he learns how to hit something other than a fastball, then he will be ready.

I agree with that Julio but what I don't think is wise is to keep the guy going up and down, up and down, up and down, from Triple A to the Majors as the Red Sox did with Youk, for example. If Matt isn't ready, keep him at Vegas for a full year and let him work on his game. However, if he is ready the Dodgers might have created a clog in their outfield and it could cause Ethier and Kemp to regress because of their being jerked around. You do NOT jerk around players like that. Play them or send them down and I think it would be ridiculous to send Ethier down after he proved himself this past season. Then, again, stranger things have happened
