Would you trade Theo for Cashman? Personally, I think Cashman is better, but if you had to trade the two GMs for each other, what would be a fair deal?

To play this fun game...you can include anyone from either front office. In fact, you can trade anything but players and money.

Personally....I would trade Cashman for Bill James and Theo Epstein. I would then release Theo Epstein and shoot him while he was running away [in the back, like the dog he is]. I would then elevate Gene Michael to GM with James as his caddy.

What are your scenarios?

Wow Gom. Wanna argue about something else, huh?

Bill James is worth Cashman himself.

gom thought you were smarter than this ... come on dont anger the nation now .. your wankees will be good and than youll just get beat in playoffs like every year .. remember 2004

Shoot a guy in the back? Pussy.

I would shoot him in the back like the dog that he is.

So come one...who would you trade for either. Remember, no players allowed. How about Cashman for Theo and Voros?

Sure do. Do you remember 2003? 1986? 1978?

One of the biggest perennial loser franchises in sports gets lucky once in eighty six years, and we have to hear about it, lol. As if the four championships we won in the last ten years don't mean anything. As if the Red Sox not even having won a playoff game in two years doesn't mean anything...lol....

Back to the subject...if you had to trade Cashman for Theo, how would you even out the deal. Let's have some fun with this..no players allowed, just front office personnel.

Just remember you say s*** like this the next you act like the victim here. This serves no purpose, and makes every one of your, "I just want good discussion", posts a big steaming pile of BS.

Epstein and Cashman are only as good as the information they get, and I don't think either of them are brilliant baseball minds. The only guy that interests me in the Yankee FO is Michael. He's got a good eye for talent.

Get the f*** out of here man. Seriously. It's as if you're writing in the service of all the disgrunteld Yankee fans on this board. It's a RED SOX board and you're a YANKEE fan. YES, you're going to hear about 04 more than the years the Yankees won. Don't be an idiot and stop acting like you were dragged to this board against your will and forced to listen to talk about the Sox. You've made this board less fun because of s*** like this. We used to talk about the Red Sox and now people here spend most of their time responding to asinine proclamations from some dumbass yankee fan.

I liked it for awhile, but I figured it was a phase where you would insult the Red Sox to remind us all that you don't like them. How many Yankee boards have you been kicked off of for you to end up here?

Example, I appreciate your comment in the other thread, but it looks like you have seen the light. I had this guy pegged from his first post, and I've been needling him ever since. Now you see why I don't let up.

Yeah, but this is in a thread created specifically for Gom's special fun land. I've been arguing with Gom since he got here too.

I would rather that s*** stay in crappy threads and actually let the good threads breathe on their own rather than being filled up with all that crap. You know I'm a big ORS fan, so I hope you didn't take it personally. We're just too good to waste precious brain-cells arguing with a guy whose sole purpose is to piss us off (coming from a guy who is wasting precious brain cells simultaneously watching 'Elf' on USA)(who am i to speak?? :) ).

Umm...none. Wow, one championship in 88 years really makes you uptight. Let me make it very clear. If you don't like my posts, go f*** yourself. Is that clear enough?

I was attempting to have fun, not take things seriously. I expected Sox fans to come back and make some fun trade ideas like Cashman and Jean Alterman for Theo, etc. Just good-natured fun.

If you don't like Yankee fans joining your board, then you should simply make it a private board. I come here because with the exception of you two *******s, I pretty much like everyone else on the board. Try this. Stop posting for a week or two. Watch how much better the board gets.

I can't remember anyone complimenting you on your posts here. Why? Because you are both a bunch of arrogant, pompous know-it-alls who don't know a thing about what you are talking about. I started this thread in fun, after being so bored with kicking the crap out of ORS's logic about Matsuzaka and finances. Now you go and ruin what I was trying to make a fun thread. Figures.

Talk about the Sox? Go ahead. I don't partake in every thread...nor do I want to. When I see something that generally affects my team and yours, I post. Trust me, I don't post to hear your opinions. Sometimes I ask people about things about their own team. [Ex. I asked for a scouting report on Pedrioia since I haven't seen him play outside of an inning or two]. Plus, to take a gentler tone, going to Yankee boards where the talk all day is about how we should give up Andy Phillips and Melky Cabrera for Roy Oswalt and how it is a good deal for the Astros bores me. If I put up something here, people will automatically try to rip it to shreds. If it stands up, then it's a good deal. We all have a bias for our teams. I come here to minimize it. You come here to increase it. To each his own.

P.S. Don't let up ORS. Please don't. If you took off your Red Sox blinders, you would realize how much of an ass-kicking you've been receiving.

Here's another thing for you Example1. Try not responding to my posts. Guess you guys don't like it when someone plays devils advocate. Must be awesome to talk with people who agree with you all the time.

By the way...is "Elf" funny? :)

whatever, dude. I guess you're right. Everyone likes Gom's posts and nobody likes Example1 or ORS. I guess we should just leave, like you said. :(

That's just it Gom, we have plenty of the Yankee fan perspective here, and by posters with much more objectivity than you have. You provide nothing other than an easy target. With your inane ideas and gross contradictions, you are like the honorary Talksox punching bag.

Here's the biggest problem with your notion about being the devil's advocate. You are too close to one extreme to be considered objective. Every one of your predictions is spun wildly in favor the Yankees. Making matters worse, you think that anyone who disagrees with you believes in the polar opposite. This is why you've been reminded countless times by posters here to not assign an opinion to them that they haven't voiced. Basically, you don't pay attention to what people are saying and you respond with preconceived opinions about Sox fans. You were guilty of this in the whole, "Why do you like Theo so much" thread/post.

Many of the posters here are much closer to the middle than you are. Don't get me wrong, there are some serious fanboys here like everywhere else, but you attribute the fanboy mentality to everyone you engage in discussion. It's frustrating to have to constantly remind you that what you are ranting about was never said by us.

And, lets not act like you are here for anything other trying to get under our skin. About half of your posts are nothing more than inflamatory comments, and half of the other half take cheap shots in the middle of stuff that could be considered honest discusssion.

Ok, ok, so just for fun, make a fair trade that involves Cashman and Theo. I was just trying to lighten things up a bit.

Honestly, I haven't heard or read of a single incident in which Cashman used his charm or effort to land a player. I'm probably wrong, perhaps the Contreras situation is one, but as far as the GM going to woo someone to their team I haven't heard much.

It seems to me that Cashman gets players because George wants them. It's like working for Donald Trump and trying to take credit for the company's success. The same is probably true of Theo, but I've just heard about his Thanksgiving dinner with Schilling, going to Celtic's or Bruin's games with Foulke, renting out entire hotels in Latin America or going to Japan to negotiate with "Mr. Matsuzaka"... Theo is the much more visable GM.

I"m not dissing Cashman, I'm just unsure about what he actually does.

Damon? That was all him.

Money talks, example1. Recruiting is a part of it too, but New York kinda sells itself these days.

Coming up on 2 full years of the strawman.

the yankee fan base is described as being a mile wide and an inch deep.

i told whoever would listen not a week ago that the yanks will be players in this thing till the end but would probably come up short....i was labeled crazy.

so we limp into that flowing cess pool on jerome ave this evening with a 5 game lead over these guys with no beckett and an outfield with 2 banjo hitters and a canuck...our power is coming from guys who have none, our bullpen is sketchy at best and our starters havent been exactly stellar with lester getting his cock knocked off on saturday....

its august 26th and brian cashman is a douchebag

theo has 18M left to pay julio lugo but we control our own destiny with more home games than anyone else in baseball ahead of us...

we have the advantage over ny today but i am not brimming with confidence in the overall return to the world series.

This is kind of a dumb discussion, but hey its a slow day. Theo is obviously the better choice. He's won 2 WS in 4 years, the farm system is the best it's been in I don't know how long. The players coming from the minors are having an impact on the ML team. And for the most part they get a certain quality for the money they do spend to bring players in.

Cashman inherited alot of players that came up threw the system. There system has not produced any impact players outside of Cano, and possibly Joba since Cashman has been in control. Cashman is bailed out of alot of situations because of the Yankees deep pockets( and yes I know the Sox have deep pockets too, but for the most part they spend there money wiser).

Of course Theo doesn't have the Boss and the Bozo to answer to all the time, but I only cut Cashman a little slack for that:D

Posted

For all that Cashman may have brought, because he has done some good, I'd still take Theo. As Bosox said, outside of Cano and a few others, he hasn't done a hell of a lot. Let's definitely make a nice list of funny names: Jaret Wright, Carl Pavano, Randy Johnson.

That's enough for me. 10's of millions of dollars for almost no production (Randy Johnson maybe a bit more than the others). It's a simplistic point, but you get the idea. Cashman and NY have been the kings of big, big money deals that quite often fall flat.

Posted
wang, melky and cano have been instrumental in maintaining the yankees and their 2nd team of the east status....if any of us did what he did with that budget and those resources we would be unemployed.

Gom - how do you feel now?

I'm not much of a fan of Theo either. I think they both suck.

I'd trade either of them for a 14 year old Vietnamese hooker, though. Female, preferably.

The main difference between me and most of the posters here is that I will allow current trends to sway me either way. I think it's better than faithfully sticking by someone. When he does well, no matter who he is, or in what capacity, I commend him. When he sucks, I let him have it. That goes for players, GMs, peanut vendors...everyone.

Cashman has been terrible of late IMO, so I let him have it. Theo hasn't been much better.

Look, if you look at it, he hasn't had any great moves. If you dissect the Ramirez deal, it was terrible for the Red Sox. However, he did win a championship for you, so the external factors belie the fact. However, he gave up a 900+ OPS SS who right now is acknowledged as one of the top 5 players in the game....who's f***ing 24 years old. He got an old 3B who's winding down. A pitcher who has an aggregate ERA of 4.20 in three seasons.

His Gagne deal was terrible. He gets a pass on Manny. Lugo was a mistake. Drew is looking like he is breaking down as expected. Matsuzaka has been good.

Has he really been that good for you guys?

Once again, forget who's writing the message, just the semblence of the message. If you don't win in 2007, it was all for s***. He hasn't done much to make you win. The scary thing is that Ramirez hasn't come close to hitting his prime yet.

Yes, I realize you wouldn't have won last year without his moves. However, if the Guardians held on when they were up 3-1....ask yourself, would his moves have been worth it? I'm not so sure.
