this matsuzaka thing has me more puzzled by the hour as well...as i drift off topic here

we go ass over bandbox by tossing 50M at the japanese owners but then offer the guy matt clement money??

WTF?

ok

if it was a move strictly to f*** the yankees i can appreciate it,

i actually would love it

but

i think the sox were sincere in trying to get this guy to pitch here

we're offering drew insane money yet we're playing needle dick the butt f***er with the guy who by most accounts is the best pitcher available this off season??

this front office makes me nuts

we didnt want to part with any money or prospects last july when we were in 1st place

but now that we finished 3rd??

we're spending money like we print it on s*** bag outfielders, mediocre shortstops and the right to talk to the kid on the nintendo box

yet are maintaining the company line when it comes to actually offering money to quality arms which we need more than anything else...

theyre more confused in the fens than ever and

perhaps havent been this confused since haywood sullivan named his son mark the starting catcher or harry frazee decided to go broadway

ray

trot nixon sucks since the roid testing began in ernest

that being said

ever hear anyone speak of jd drew??

the man who is so loved this will be his 4th team in 5 years.

hmmmmmmmmmn

that alone should speak volumes about his clubhouse popularity

mr 2-13 against the mets in the nlds isnt the man we need, not at 14M per season

this isnt los angeles where the fans show in the 3rd inning and leave in the 7th

this isnt atlanta(his hometown) where they have 2 sports, spring and fall football

this isnt st louis where they politely clap when you bounce into a 6-4-3 dp

this is boston

we will know what he eats, who hes banging and what time he got home on saturday nite before the 2pm sunday matinee

is he ready for this??

nothing in his character or his performance indicates to me that he is

A source with direct knowledge of the Sox negotiations with free agent outfielder J.D. Drew said there is "no holdup" to a deal and expressed puzzlement that an announcement of the deal has not yet been scheduled. Manager Terry Francona said he was unaware of the status of negotiations but did not seem concerned that the deal would be completed.

Drew is to be paid $14 million a year, with some question of how much of that money is guaranteed after the fourth year. So for now, it's best to describe the deal as 4-year, $56 million with an option, most likely one that vests, that would raise the total value of the package to $70m. It could wind up that the fifth year will be fully guaranteed, but I doubt that.

Id like to keep Manny, sign Drew and trade Coco.

I dont see Crisp coming back strong and i think Willy Mo will put up good number if giving playing time

Posted
It would be better to deal Coco next offseason. He's a good stop gap to make way for Jacoby Ellsbury who could be up in Boston sometime from the All-Star Break to September. Coco is expected to have a better season than 06, netting better trade value

riverside, you are running a double edged sword here. Right now, the sox can maintain that Crisp was injured and that was the reason why he struggled. He still has value. If he comes out next yr and sucks eggs, then the sox wont find any suitors.
Posted
Who's the center fielder then for 2007?

I dont know. But if holding onto Crisp solely for the potential to trade him next yr is the motivation for waiting for a move, then they could be backing themselves into a corner.

i like crisp

i think out of the leadoff spot he can go 15-75-.290 30sb with some range

hey

we need a bit of speed out there

as of now we have a slow pitch softball team from soup to nuts

Posted
They dont back themselves into a corner by opening another position slot they have to re-fill?

but they do if they are locked into 2 more yrs at 5 mil per for a switch hitting Roger Cedeno.

Posted
Roger Cedeno was a switch hitter. He also got 55+ steals twice in his career, and averaged 6 homers per year.

But hey, nice comparison.

look at his last 2 yrs with the Mets is what I am saying.

Circus in center would be hilarious for 162.

Why, exactly?

He seemed confortable there when he filled in for Coco last year, but hey, what do I know?

Put Drew there and WMP in right then.

If you watched sox games last year you would no that he played a solid Center field, and he is also not slow, and can track balls down pretty well.

He played a grand total of 27 games in CF for the sox. Yet it is okay to make a positive judgement off of that, yet a negative judgement on Pedroia's short stint is not allowed? Something is amiss here? If a guy cannot play RF to save his life, then what makes you think he could man CF in Boston of all places for 162.

But did you watch the games? I don't think you did. I wouldn't project great success for him in CF - he'd likely be well below average - but he looked much better in CF than either LF or RF last year. He gets a better read on the ball. When it's slicing toward the corners, he misjudges it more.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to start the year with him as the CF, but he was better there.

okay, if you make the admission that he is below average in CF but not as much of a circus in CF as he is in RF, then I can buy that.

That said, he would be above average with the stick for that spot. That is where the debate lies, IMO. Would his offense be good enough to more than cover his D? I'm not so sure, but it's possible. One thing that makes it hard to determine is the lack of consistent playing time in his career. From the looks of things, he'll be getting that this year, so we'll know what to expect from him when he gets a chance to go through the ups and downs of a full season.

Drew wanted to play CF in LA, but the Dodgers said no because of his styrofoam knees.

But hey, if the Sox fans want him in CF, they must know more than the team that had him for the two previous years.

Reading. It's a good thing. You should try it. We were discussing the merits of Wily Mo Pena in CF.

You're right. Reading is a wonderful thing. STFU.
