The Angels have a hole at 3rd while the have two SS prospects ready to step in.

Trade makes sense to some degree. Aybar can step in for Cabrera. Lowell can play 3rd until Wood is ready. Pena gives them a power bat. Sox get a closer, a shortstop and a firstbaseman. Youk moves to third.

As much as I don't want to trade Pena because I love his potential this whole deal I would only do if they could sign JD Drew.

I just don't really see much sense for the Angels. If they moved Pena to 1st then it makes a lot more sense. But they have Vlad, Rivera, Figgins and Anderson in the outfield, they would have a gaping hole at first, and they'd give up probably the 2 best players in the deal in Shields and Cabrera.

They have the players to replace Cabrera. Aybar has been ready for awhile and they have Brandon Wood. They won't miss Cabrera at all. They could move Anderson to first if they really want to considering he really shouldn't be playing the outfield anymore. Pena would DH for them while Rivera, Figgins and Vlad play the outfield.

For once MC, i'm 100% with you here. Wily Mo's power is special, and i'd much rather have him bust on our team that flourish on another (see David Eckstein, Freddy Sanchez)

im almost completely on board with this. It would not kill me if WMP was traded, but another prospect might be better. I would love for Cabrera to come back. We found a guy that could handle Boston, had good defense and good bat, but then we let him go!

I understand what you mean, but I don't think that we can go into this trade with the fear of Wily Mo becoming a star for another team. This will fill needs and if we sign Drew, which I think will happen, Wily Mo will be our most valuable trading chip aside from the young guns (Paps, Lester, Bucholz, Bowden...) and will make us a better team.

Cabrera won't be coming to Boston. I still strongly believe that the Sox will sign Julio Lugo It's just a matter of time before we hear it happening. I'm hoping it happens soon cause I can't take waiting to hear if they have signed Lugo.
