Drew's the better talent, hands down, but he's also the bigger risk. He's more risky because he'll cost considerably more and he's just as much of a DL Warrior as Trot is. I'll go with the optimistic answer and say Drew.

I can already tell I'll hate Drew. He comes off like a dick everywhere he goes. They hate him here in Atlanta and they gotta hate his ass in LA right now. He's a Boras suck-off.

Between Trot and Drew, I'll take Pena.

If its between Drew and Nixon I'm taking Drew.....nixon has nothing left in the tank anymore.
Drew is 31 and you think he has $25 million more in his tank than Nixon?

Drew opted out of a 3 yr/$33M contract, he's obviously looking for and will get more. But Nixon isn't as good at this point. Nixon can't even play against lefties which is a huge liability.

Nixon's WARP3

2004 1.7

2005 5.6

2006 4.5

Drew's WARP3

2004 9.8

2005 4.2

2006 8.6

Last 3 seasons comparison

JD Drew

363 games

370 hits in 1264 ABs (.293 avg) 74 Doubles, 15 Triples, 66 HRs, 229 RBIs, 250 Runs, 258 Walks, 15 SBs-----career .264 avg vs lefties

Trot "Dirt Dog" Nixon

286 games

261 hits in 938 ABs (.278 avg) 62 Doubles, 2 Triples, 27 HRs, 142 RBIs, 147 Runs, 128 Walks, 2 SBs-----.213 career avg vs lefties

Im going out on a limb here and say that Drew is the best bet...

Drew's numbers at his age make me want him more than Nixon. I really don't think Nixon has anything left anymore, and besides, the salary isn't that big of a deal because a team like the Sox has the resources to deal with it.

without a doubt he has more left in the tank than nixon. Nixon can't even hit anymore.

At $33 million over 3 years for Drew or $8 million for Nixon over 2 years' date=' who do you pick?[/quote']

Nixon isn't an option, he is only a shadow of the player he used to be, even at 4 millions per year its way over paid. Drew has always had health issues and he doesn't play or produce when he is hurt, even when he is healthy his production isn't what you should expect out of him for the salary that he will demand. To answer the question neither should be the answer in RF.

Does everyone forget that we got Wily Mo to play RF? We don't need either of them, and getting Drew is a clear slap in the face to Pena ... one I'm sure he wouldn't forget when he contract is up. The only way Pena will ever improve is if he's in the lineup every day, and if he's not starting in RF this year ... he will only be here as long as his current contract.

A lot of you guys complained when we traded Arroyo for Pena ... do you want that trade to go down as a complete waste?

I want WMP to play but hes 24 and needs to build some confidence in AAA or something, if hes ready next year so be it, but i think he needs a year at least.

Maybe the Red Sox don't think Pena has what it takes. He was helpless against above average pitching and he looked like a bufoon in RF.

... helpless? If he can hit .301 looking helpless ... man I can't wait till he gets it together. And wow those 3 errors are going to kill us. We should really go spend an extra 40 mill on JD Drew.

He is too good for AAA. The only way he is going to improve is to play every day in the bigs. Going back to the minors would seriously stunt his growth ... especially as a hitter. The guy can hit anyone's fastball, but he needs to learn how to hit big league breaking balls, and the only place he can learn how is in the bigs.

well said. Why spend money when we should really be spending it on pitching ? I dont think J.D would a great fit for Boston b/c of the injuries he has suffered and idk if he will be able to handle the pressue

his brother on the other hand, i would take anyday

Exactly my intentions to say when i came into this thread.

Bring back Trot. This team is becoming a bought team. We need to keep some fan favorite/homegrown players around. Pena needs the playing time too so if Nixon goes down, we have big Wily.

Exactly. If we had no other needs, then I wouldn't be against possibly getting Drew, but we have holes to fill before we can improve on positions we already have filled.

although maybe THeo wants him as replacement if Manny leaves, which i doubt will happen. I was reading that Theo wanted J.D when he placed Manny on waivers

That I could understand because it would open up a hole. If Manny is moved then we are short an OFer, and I think Drew would be a great fit, but right now Drew would send WMP to the bench, and cost the team money they need to spend on arms ... neither is a good thing.

I guess im going to agree with you. Its easy to forget that he was hitting .301 and his defensive liabilities are a bit exaggerated. He is the future and could be outstanding the next 10 years. At least ill be optimistic.

Personally, I voted to get Soriano. Errors mean nothing. It's not an error if the ball gets by you and rolls around the OF corner for a triple. It's not an error if a pop up hits fair by the Pesky pole and bounces into the stands for a double that should have been an out. He looked like a deer caught in the headlights out there. He was so bad that the coaching staff criticized his work ethic in the field. As for his hitting, I will wait for him to make some consistent contact against above average pitchers before I bat him any higher than 7th.

I hate to say this to you but Pena is better than Trot at this very moment. Trot is washed up. Who cares if he was homegrown. He can't produce anymore.

Plus, we didn't buy anyone besides Matsuzaka, and that isn't even definite yet. The reason Theo brought him here was to develop his power and make him into what he's supposed to be (a 40 HR a year guy) and have him added to basbeall's most efared 3-4.

He hit .301 in 276 ABs last year. How much more consistant does he need to be for you to get off his f***ing back? Being able to hit .301 when you don't even know if you'll get in the game is pretty good if you ask me.

As for his fielding ... yes I know it's not good, but neither is Manny's. Just think about how many balls he's misplayed in LF that didn't go down as errors. But why doesn't it matter with Manny? Cause he hits 40 HRs ... so will Wily if you give him a chance to start.
