Alright, I know we're going to hear the Manny rumors this offseason. I'm not saying trade him at all costs, but I had an interesting thought.

Baseball is relevent again in Detroit. They've got a solid core of young arms and are in need of an offensive jumpstart.

What if the Sox offered Manny to the Tigers for Bonderman and Magglio?

Would you do it as the Sox?

Would you do it as the Tigers?

On either side of this I'd have to seriously consider it.

I'd do it. Nooo problem. I don't like Magglio but I would love Bonderman for a few years. Then go after Willis.

Schill

Willis

Beckett

Bonderman

Papelbon

I would cry.

I don't know. They have a surplus of young arms and they need a bat. Magglio cannot carry a team like Manny Ramirez. I think the Tigers do it, I think the Sox don't though. Bonderman has been in the major leagues too long with no big results for his "big stuff". I'd rather see the Sox deal Manny for Ervin Santana than Bonderman

Bonderman is said to be being shopped for offense. I'm not sure if thats enough for Manny. Maybe if there was a prospect in there as well. I have to consider Manny is worth 2 major leaguers and a prospect. That's not an over priced theroy for a first ballot hall of famer that will produce well for the next 4 or 5 years.

I don't think Bonderman, but I think if you subbed Robertson for Bonderman, the Tigers would go for it. Would the Sox though?

You're joking, right? They are the same age, but Bonderman has been more healthy and has pitched with better peripheral stats at higher levels.

In terms of immediate value, this looks like a fair deal. However, if Leyland has input, I don't see this as a fit. He's an old school baseball guy. You know, swing if it's a strike, be aggessive, play hard all day long. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but Manny is the antithesis of a Leyland type ballplayer. I also question why the Tigers would want to trade something as valuable as a proven young pitcher for a two year rental. The future values of this deal don't even come close to looking fair. Perhaps they would, but only if they are really burned by their lack of offense and go into "Win-Now" mode, which doesn't really make too much sense when you see youth all over their roster.

As for my thoughts, I do it in jiffy. Bonderman looks like he's developing into a stopper, and Mags is a good fit. An OF of Mags, Coco, and Pena in RF,CF, and LF is much better defensively than Pena, Coco, and Manny in the same spots. Perhaps even good enough to make up for the offensive drop off from Manny to Mags.

Manny and 14 mil for Bonderman would work. If you throw Magglio in there, you are essentially only making their best hitter a little better. The Tigers need a guy to compliment Magglio. They dont need to lose him.

That doesn't sound too bad, but it's still the Santanna argument all over again. 1st ballot H.O.F. for someone with hi potential and one good half season under the belt with?

I'm not sold completely on Jered. His FIP-ERA was 1.43, meaning he pitched to an ERA about a run-and-a-half better than he should have. That's mostly due to a real stong ~87% strand rate. If he can keep being Houdini, I'll believe it a little more, but I think we need to give the other shoe a chance to drop.

I'm not saying he's not better than either of our prospects, although I'm very encouraged by Papelbon as a SP with the improvement of his splitter last year. I'm just still a little skeptical of what we can really expect out of him in this league.
