What will be 06' biggest off season surprise?

What's everyones dark horse here? What big name not expected to be moved/traded will be? What Free Agent will sign where no one expected? Just thought it be a fun one to debate. Mine is Mark Prior. If he goes somewhere else I think he helps whatever team more then he will ever beable to help the cubs. Just some thoughts.

I think Foulke and Gagne will be dominant closers.

It would be a pretty big surprise if these guys even pitch somewhere in the offseason. If healthy I would expect both to be able to be dominant closers for some winterleague team. :D

I mean they are sleepers this offseason.

OK, some big off-season surprises that likely won't happen but would be eye-opening if they did:

Pettite signs with the Red Sox

Matsazuka DOES NOT sign with the Yankees (personally I think he's in the bag for them)

Sheffield gets traded to the NL and doesn't complain (that would be a shocker)

Red Sox sign Juan Pierre (nahhh, speed doesn't play in Boston, despite a certain SB in 2004)

Jeff Weaver signs with Yanks, taking another shot at Big Apple success

I could see Pettite in Boston. The Red Sox like guys who have shown they can stand the pressure (ala Pettite) and he's a solid arm. Especially because he should be a deal compared to the Zito/Matsuzaka/Schmidt level of pitcher-- because he's clearly not THAT good.

Here's a potential surprise: Roger Clemens actually retires......

Although I don't THINK that will happen. I think he'll be back in the AL East-- just a gut feeling I've got.

Jim Leyland will quit smoking.

Only if he dies.

Biggest surprise...hmm...I would say Weaver leaving St. Louis. He is loved there, and found a niche. The other, alternate surprise I would say involves the same player...

Weaver signs with the Red Sox. Then comes back to haunt the Yankees by no-hitting the Yankees in Game 7 in the ALCS, striking out A-rod 4 times, the last time with runners on 2nd and 3rd to end the game, 1-0.

the bolded part of your statement is the one part that would not be a surprise.

You're wrong. I'd be very surprised if the Cub's shortstop somehow managed to get to the plate in a Yankees - Red Sox game.

Pettite in BOS? I don't see. 3 years ago the Sox offered him a 3 year 44 million contract. He wouldn't sign then cause he didn't want to pitch against his buddy's in NY, so maybe but highly doubtful. And optimist, I wouldn't mind seeing AROD on the Cubbies. But there might have to be another team invloved or you would have to give up Zambrano and probably 1 or 2 top prospects. I just see it hard to trade your number 1 starter( cy young 20 win season quality) for AROD, and his contract will not allow the cubs to replace Zambrano with a proven #1. The other side to this argument i've seen and also can understand is Zambrano has been a work horse the past 2-3 years with 200 innings plus and no arm injurys and might be inline for one if not watched carefully. He probably is at his highest value he will ever be so if you wanted to deal him now would be the time. So I understand both sides of the argument, and it's a tough one to decide on.
