BREAKING NEWS: Small Plane crashes into residental NYC building. Cory Lidle killed.

On the flip side, though, I have to admit that I was thinking this is the Yankees fault for not beating the Tigers, because Corey would not have been flying if we were still in the playoffs. I know its crass, but in some way the Yankees' pathetic showing in the ALDS caused the death of Corey Lidle. You may flame me now, I won't blame you. I'm just telling you the truth.

But you can't know what would have happened if the yankees had won. What if, en route to Oakland, the entire team's plane went down. Maybe losing the series to Detroit saved 24+ lives.

As expected, people are starting to publish their tribute slideshows to Cory Lidle on youtube. Personally, this one stands out to me. No doubt all home openers in April will have a moment of silence for him, cant imagine how emotional it will be in New York for that.

how emotional??

im not sure

lets face facts here

nobody in nyc owned a cory lidle pinstriped shirt and as someone else said he was more than likely axed come november

he was a yankee for 70days and his efforts werent the stuff of immortals

its impossible to phrase this without sounding like a cold hearted insensitive prick

i'll take my chances with an honest approach

is it tragic??

absolutley

and the baseball world is shocked saddened and unhappy about this

however

this isnt jetsey or williams or even joe pepitone we're talking about

this is a guy who pitched the last game of arguably the yanks most disappointing finish ever

Who cares if he wasn't some superstar player. The fact is that he was a human being and he lost his life so very tragically and now his wife no longer has a husband and his son just lost his father at 6 years old. The fact that he is a person is enough just because he is Cory Lidle and not Derek Jeter doesn't mean we should feel remource any less for his friends and family. Do you even know how it feels to loose your father because I do. My father passed 5 years ago and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about him and miss him. So maybe you should be a little nicer about things because you never know when something like this could happen to you. He is a human being not just some baseball player. You honestly have no heart whatsoever. Seems to me like you think about yourself and not others.

The thought of the manner in how he died in NY will surely grip at the hearts of New Yorkers, when fans are able to join in a silent moment as the Yankees begin their new season. Let alone it happened 5 miles away from the WTC site, and fell on 10/11 (a date too much chillingly simlilar)

Yea he didnt have the best of careers that many young ballplayers hope for. That shouldnt stand in the way of people honoring him in a brief moment of silence before MLB gets on with a new season. He was just a guy going back home to see his wife and kid. His death will not be in vain and has shown many again that "Baseball is just a game". Even moreso it occured during the midst of all of America tuned to October games.

Me & my friends are doing a tradition of attending each home opener, and we're hoping to see that at Fenway Park.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Investigators at the site of where cory lidle's plane

slammed into a New York high rise building now believe that New York

Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle had attempted suicide. A source within the

FBI who had spoken with Lidle's wife now believes that Lidle had been

distraught following the Yankees elimination to the Detroit Tigers on

Saturday. The source also stated that Lidle had been suffering from

mood swings, extreme depression levels and a state of low latent

inhabition. Dr. Morrison of the New York Psychological Testing

Institute states that when a person is suffering from low latent

inhabition they have very little self worth and try to attach onto

others for personal affections. Dr. Morrison claims to have been a

psychatrist of Lidle's for the pass 9 monthes and his client list

includes Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.

The second person killed in the fiery inferno is reported to be the

pilot named Adbul Yousef Habib. Mr. Habib had just immigrated to

America in the past year and has been reported as a very erratic and

confrontational according to his employees at Aerotravel. His co-

workers report that he was a very unstable man given to many job-

related violations including drinking on the job, not properly

attending to his craft, and making risky manuevers in the air.

His co-workers report Mr. Habib as a fervent Moslem who would often

shout racial bigotry against Jews and Americans. Said one co-worker who

wished not to be identified, "The guy was a nut, I mean I could see

this coming a mile away, he had all the hallmarks of an Al-Qaeda

terrorist". A Koran was found at the site of the crash by investigators.

At the Midtown apartment of Mr. Lidle's was found a suicide note

written shortly before he boarded the plane. In the note Lidle wished

his family well and stated that "the demons were starting up again and

this time i can't control them,". Yankees teammate and close friend

Jason Giambi reported that Mr. Lidle had been acting very erracticly

since being traded to New York in a blockbuster trade this summer.

Lidle was reported to have recently converted to Islam and Mr. Giambi

states that he was very critical of american foreign policy abroad.

As of right now the FBI is ruling this case a suicide/terrorist plot

and looking into any possible connections Mr. Lidle might have had with

Al-Qaeda or Mr. Osama Bin Ladan.

Just realized it was fake. I just skimmed it. fuk him.

I think that everyone's a little sensitive right after people pass away. I caught loads of s*** when I mentioned anything about Kirby Puckett...Crunchy has a 1000% verifiable point here. Anytime anyone dies, that isn't a criminal (and I don't mean petty criminal) before they're 75 or 80 it's sad. It sure is. There are people that cared about that person, and probably people that depended on them. But the fact of the matter is, we mourn more for athletes than we do for everyday people...and that's just not right. I guess it's to be expected, they are in the public eye, but at the same rate, the public eye isn't really the eye that matters. It's the eyes of the children, the loved ones, the family, and the friends of that particular individual. My heart goes out to those people without fail. Much like it does to anyone who loses someone that they're close to.

It's not that we mourn more for athletes than normal people, we mourn more for people we know than we don't. I feel worse about Lidle dying than I do about Crunchys co-worker or some kid in Iraq because I at least knew him on some level, albeit a small one. But when a family member dies or something like that, you mourn them tons more than some athlete you barely know, even though your family member is a normal person.

Where are people getting that the Yankees were going to retain Lidle?? He was about to enter free agency, and NY was all but set to say goodbye to him. They asked for Lidle more or less because they knew thats who the Sox wanted to get during the trading deadline.

You nailed it a few pages back! Yeah, it's sad for Cory Lidle and his family and his fans, but in reality, Congress should not establish a holiday on 10/11 in his remembrance. People need to put it in perspective. If you all really want to mourn heroes, mourn those that are brought back to Dover Air Force Base on a daily basis after getting blown to bits in Iraq or Afghanistan. After all, without their sacrifice we wouldn't have the freedom to be sports fans.

I'm still trying to figure out where in this thread I said I was grieving over Lidle dying. Yeah it sucks and it's a shame, but much like you I was thinkin about who would be our 5th starter next year about 5 minutes after I heard the news. You don't seem to actually read what I post unless I translate it into tard-speak. Must be that ADD kickin in.

Maybe you should heed your own advice. Crunch's long post that you ridiculed as being thoughtless, unconnected drivel was a sentence by sentence response to Ray10's post that quoted him. If you had read the thread, you would get that. But, instead, you are now acting the victim after you started in on him.

I was just honestly wondering if he had ADD :dunno:

I still think he does. Just being honest. If he wants to take me on for that then fine. If he wants to pretend that I am some Corey Lidle greiver then I am going to take issue with that.

Sure, that makes sense. It's OK for you to question his mental state, but it's not OK for him to question yours? There's a word for that, you know?
