With Wily Mo & Eric Hinske locked up for next season, coupled with Trot's power outage & health concerns all add up to Trot quite possibly wearing a different uni this spring. In previous posts I spoke with disdain just merely because of the fact that it is evident he cant hold down a starting job in Boston anymore. Course there will be teams with toned down cities who arent as hyped as fans are here, Ive heard rumblings about the Nationals or even the Cardinals if Juan Encarcion moves to center. If this falls in place, then this is a tribute thread to the dirt dog that is Trot Nixon.

Top 7 memorable moments

I am currently setting out to make a tribute slideshow of Trot's tenure as a Red Sox. Anybody have song choices? My top pick right now would be the rock song "We Salute You". Maybe at the end put in the clip of Trot's sliding catch in the 04 ALCS?

And how has Trot been handling every day in the lineup this season? Ooh I just salivate looking at his season stats as our #5 hitter for 07

It would have to be an incentive laden contract for him, knowing how a new injury might crop up with him nowadays.

I think the Sox would keep Trot for "the right price". If, like Damon, both sides are far apart on what the price is, Nixon is history here.

I like your idea though. I think this could work. If Nixon has a hidden ego, he can "save face" with a contract that has lots of $$$ if he produces.

If Manny goes, things may change as well.

All time is a bit of a stretch. He was a solid player but nothing more. He he has no bat left.

Why? so he can hit 8 HR's a year. please.....the guy can't hit a lick anymore for a corner outfielder.

People thought that about Nomar as well, and look what he is doing... however he will probally leave, which is almost inevidible and probally go to the Dodgers or Braves.

Trot Nixon does not have the talent that Nomar has. I'm really not broken up about Nixon not with the Sox next year.

If Nixon is truly shot and does not sign with the Sox for a reduced role, I hope they get another RF because Wily Mo has not looked good in RF at all. The coaching staff has questioned his work habits in the OF and although he can hit the ball a mile, he has not shown any ability to hit good pitchers.

He may be moving to left if we trade Manny, but I guess that means we still need a RF.

You're as cold as Papelbon's glare. But you're right.

I could see keeping him in a Gabe Kaplar type role. If we need a pinch hitter late in a playoff game with the bases loaded and a reliever in, I would want Trot over a lot of other players. If he doesn't play that much then injuries could be less likely.

If Trot wants to stick around for 2.5m/for 2 years then I'd keep him. This season depth has been a problem and Nixon will probably go and make some team a little better... if only by his presence and attitude.

Everyone thought mike lowel was done and look what kind of year he had .Even kevin millar is having a decent year 269 ba 15 hr in less ab than youk .The sox will let nixon go and he will make them look like idiots.

You think the Sox shouldve held onto Millar? Even now Im still glad they let him walk. Youkilis leading off wasnt a major force in the first half of the season?

Lowell & Nixon you just cant compare, nice try though. Nixon has been on the DL like 4 times since 2004, accompanied by 3 straight down seasons. Lowell has barely had a trip to the DL, and recently has had 1 count them 1 down season.

Nomar is a borderline hall of famer, Nixon is a borderline starter. You're talking about two totally different beasts here. Nixon had a lot of promise but he failed to live up to because he couldn't stay healthy. I love the guy, but he isn't going to want to settle for a backup role and really thats the only role i like him for on the Red Sox. I am sure someone will look for him to start, maybe the cubs, or twins who both might be looking for an inexpensive bat this offseason.

This is why I HATE Trot Nixon, he had one good year and fans like you keep talking about how he'll rebound and how he's still a good player.

He can still contribute..and that's no reason to hate Nixon himself. He's a hard worker, a great outfielder and a big contributor to the community

He's not a great outfielder and who cares what he contributes to the community. His time is finished here because he is not a productive ballplayer anymore.

The community means nothing. As a matter of fact, the community is a distraction and probably the cause of his poor play... all of it... through out his entire career. Baseball should be played as far away from these "communities" as possible.

On a serious note, Wily Mo has done nothing but let his bat do the talking all season long and his bat has been saying that he needs more playing time. Yeah, I like Nixon, but Pena has a chance to be special if given the oppurtunity. He'll K from time to time and in key spots too, but I think Pena could be a .280 30 100 guy over the course of a season. Something Nixon absolutely is NOT.

He strikes out 1 of every 3 ABs. He has n't improved in that area or with regard to his patience at the plate where he has consistently walked about 6.5% of the time throughout his short career. I don't think we will be seeing any marked improvement in those areas next year either. If he is given the full time RF job and he stays healthy, we can expect him to be chasing 200 K's.

'K' from time to time? Community not important? I can't believe what I'm hearing. Talk about tunnel vision

Talk about joke vision.

and I'm not trying to say Wily Mo doesn't K, I know he does, but not many power hitters don't strike out. I'd much rather a year of 'lets see what wily mo can do' than a year of 'lets keep paying nixon to be on the DL, he had that good year once'

He has played well this season. Well enough to earn more time.

You know what, you're probably right. I don't know about 200 K's, he isn't Dunn-esque, but he is up there. You're not gonna find the perfect ball player anywhere. I think his defense will be adequate enough to live with, bad enough to complain about in a loss. His hitting will be good enough so that people won't question why Nixon isn't in right, and he'll K enough to give the papers something to gripe about.... and us too. At the end of the day, I think Pena is deserving of a shot.
