i would think youre right

however

based on last nites effort

its difficult to get stimulated with anyone oakland would give up seeing as though they were shutout for the 1st time since 1961 against the chargers

hey

this team this coach has done more with less than anyone ive seen thru the years

i havent ruled them out

im just questioning their sanity

Posted
evidently they need it

They don't need it. They are doing this out of principal and for the fact he violated his contract with the patriots. The Dolphins did the same thing when Ricky Williams abruptly retired.

were they cheap when they gave seymour a big contract as well as tom brady. I didn't think so. the pats have a salary structure in place. You want to know the reason they didn't re-do Branch's contract before he was a free agent. Because if they did that every single player that was a year from free agency on the pats would have their agent calling to get a new contract done with the patriots. That is why. the pats were happy to extend branch but they were not going to rip up the 2006 year and give him a new contract starting this year. the pats have won 3 super bowls in 5 years for a reason and that is smart management. That is something you fail to see.

agreed

however

i dont see the logic in having a championship team lacking wide recievers who can actually catch the ball

this is week 2

not spring practice

we got caught with our pants down over short money

stevie wonder saw this coming

the front office either didnt know or didnt care which in either case sucks for the fans who again, pay the highest prices in football

to have 35 year old troy brown, who makes 800,000 a year

be the big play guy

look for a tremendous team letdown on sunday as they did after milloy got dumped

the difference then was we had a plan,we had rodney harrison to play strong safety

this year we have.....

doug gabriel to replace the superbowl Mvp??

Super Bowl MVP's mean nothing. Larry Brown was a super bowl MVP and Desmond Howard was one too. Deion Branch was a good player but he was not a great player like you are making him out to be. He wasn't worth that type of money. End of story.

the seahawks, nfc champs and shoulda been victors

thought he was worth it

of course mike holmgren doesnt have your football pedigree

so is suspect of course youre right

just bustin here

but just consider

why wasnt there a plan in place for this??

because they didnt have 1 or they didnt care

its 1 of the other

and its us fans who pay the bills getting f***ed over by a stingy ownership group

Posted
ya and that stingy ownership group brought 3 super bowl titles so I don't understand your bitching. You bitch and moan about every little thing. If you don't like what they are doing then don't pay to go to the games. That gives people like myself better opportunity for tickets.

as long as people like you buy into this ******** that allows them to charge the highest tix in football without fullfilling their obligations to the fans that means that jon jon and bob and myra dont have to spend.

and i gave up my pats seasons after 13 years because they cut lawyer milloy and still proceeded to jam the ""handling fee"" of 11.95 on my season tix

20x11.95 for ""handling""

i called the front office the day i got my 03 bill which was in february i think

I asked them what this handling charge was for.....

i got no response

they got no check

and now

i watch them from the comfort of the bar stool or my couch now and spend the money on bc tix and fly my family to the caribbean instead of going to foxboro

you think keeping 13,000,000.00 under the cap is a little thing

you think lining up troy brown and a s*** bag wideout with no experience on the other side is a little thing too??

troy brown, the man who last played regularly as a 5th d back is our featured wide out

what exactly do you consider a big thing??

sorry

no wide outs presents a problem

anyways

did you hear what came out of the pats locker room??

patrick pass in tears, seymour looking for answers, anonymous players questioning the teams commitment

meanwhile across the country and in the local papers we know of 2 winners and 54 losers

the winners being deion and the seahawks

(that'll show future holdouts,36M and a trade to a superbowl team...those bastards)

the losers being the patriots

and again i ask for the 3rd time

what was the back up plan after watching givens willie a/v and now deion walk??

thats right

i like success

sorry

i dont see how coming into the 2006 season with roman gabriel and a guy who's a wideout because only because he wears a jersey with the # 80 on it will continue this success

i dont understand how come we had 3 tightends on the roster and no decent wideouts we drafter another f***ing tight end

i dont know why we didnt trade branch to

another club who had a disgruntled or available

wideout either.

winning in the nfl is a short window for those of you younger than 18 who dont know this.

the 3 in 4 years was awesome

does that mean we're supposed to suck and lay down??

sorry

i didnt get that memo

does that give management carte blanche not to spend whats available??

then cut raping your customers

think this s*** lasts forever??

ask the celtics or bruins or cowboys or 49ers.

glory is fleeting

ask hitler or stalin or saddam hussein or king hussein or

lil george in a couple years

every football city in america is breathing easier cause of this deal and in seattle theyre ecstatic

here in the valley of the mighty blackstone i dont see how starting the season with no viable receivers and the best qb in the game helps

That isn't true. Gabriel is a good size/speed WR, who has good hands. No one will mistake him for being an elite WR, but he is a pretty good number three WR. He would have gone to Miami, but since he isn't the sharpest of fellows, he had to settle for UCF.

You could have made a trade with the Raiders, but they aren't trading a number one for Deion Branch. Besides, Jerry Porter could be made available. The Patriots could probably get him for a three or four.

Why are you always so condescending to people who are younger than you are? Most of the people on this site have been watching football since the salary cap era.

The New England Patriots are a playoff team. As long as Brady is under center, and that defense plays as well as they can, they'll be a playoff team. The team made two wise decisions. Givens, is not a number one WR, and the $25 million given to him may be one of the worst moves of the offseason. Branch, is not a $36 million dollar WR, the first round pick acquired for him may lead to a Ted Ginn Jr. type WR.

The Patriots won three in four years, not what the NFL had in mind. The window is already closing. McGinest left, the two coordinators left, Law left, the team got older. The team is good enough to reach the playoffs, but they aren't winning a SuperBowl, with or without Branch.

Yeah? Maybe the Seahawks could have used that money to re-sign Steve Hutchinson. They won't be running the ball down people's throats anymore. I'd be confused if I was a Seahawks fan, on why they insist on acquiring every number two WR on the market. They have Nate Burelson, and Bobby Engram. They need Deion Branch? Will the be able to keep Trufant, Hamlin, or Benard?

The Dolphins are a better than the pats in every place except overall defense and it's getting better.

Tom Brady Id say is better than Daunte Culpepper. Ask any sports analyst who you want to play for you in a big game, they wouldnt have to think about it: Tom Brady

Daunte chokes when the games on the line

i agree

now they arent a superbowl team

however

last year they were very capable of winning it all

do you really think pitt beats us if we got by denver??

as it stands i think this team is a legit wide out away from having the best offense bar none in football...that legit wideout wasnt reupped

and the window for the best O in the game escapes us accordingly

i think that this defense has the best front in the business

i think the dbacks are coming along and they may need more of a physical presence but are generally adequete

the linebackers are old but we have playmakers in colvin and brewski and run stuffers like vrabel....they get it done

im pissed cause i thought they were good enuff to win it all and they let it go over a money issue with a guy who earned a new contract

Why wouldn't Pittsburgh have beat you if Denver hadn't? They beat Cincinatti, Indianapolis, Denver, and Seattle -- four teams that were better than the Patriots. If you really think you're one legit WR away from having the best offense in the league, you're nuts.

I wouldn't say that thought is outta nowhere, I eman really our only hole on offense is teh WR position, if we got 2 solid guys, or kept Givens and Branch, we would definately be up tehre. I eman think about it, Tom Brady, best in league, e have a very good 1-2 in Dillon-Maroney (not bad eitehr), we have a sick OLine (up tehre), Great TEs (prob top 5 at elast), and really allw e need is a star wideout.

Posted
I'm debating the point that if you had a legit WR you'd have the 'best offense bar none' in football... not many WR's in this league would make you better than the offenses in Indianapolis, Denver, Cincinatti, and some other places.

yea, I agree, I think if we had 2 good WRs here we'd be up tehre among those teams, Idk about like above n beyond them

I think this thread is so funny. The Pats will be contending for the SB, no doubt in my mind. Anyone who thinks Miami is anywhere in the same league as NE is way off.

If the Baltimore Ravens can win the super bowl with Trent Dilfer and Tony Banks at QB throwing to Quadry Ismail with a grand total of 49 receptions in 2000 and an old Shannon Sharpe Id say we are fine.

Now, Im not comparing our defense to theirs, but ours is pretty damn good. Its solid all the way around. We have maybe the best DLine in the league, one of the top linebacking cores in the league and our secondary doesnt have any glaring weaknesses like it did a year back.

If we play good defense and move the ball (like we have with VERY impressive rushing numbers), and manage the clock well (Brady and Belichick are very good at this) and Brady continues makes key completions we will win, and be very successful.

The dynasty is not over, it is rebuilt and ready to win once again. All three of our Dlineman are 25 or younger, our offensive line is very young and good, we have arguably the best QB in the league, we have a rising star at TE, we have a young gun at RB, and our CB's were both rookies last year and played pretty well given their circumstances.

If we continue to hammer the ball with the RB's, and give Brady 3rd and shorts....not only will we move the chains....but also take chunks of time off the clock and tire out defenses. Regardless of the fact that we dont have a star WR the Patriots are a very hard team to match up with. No LB can match up with Watson, no LB can match up with Faulk, Maroney and Dillon stay fresh and punish LB's and tire them out, and while all of this is going on WR's will spring lose not to mention that with the Pats strong rushing attack they will eventually be able to run play-fakes further opening up lanes and seams to hit receivers.

The Pats really are a defensive coaches nightmare regardless of their WR situation.

Football games are won in the trenches. We have a very impressive Dline, and Oline....and they are only a few years removed from college ball. Id say we are right where we want to be and its going to be fun to watch.
