Miner and Walker/Ledezma for Loretta would be nice

as much as i like Loretta, he is 34 and a FA after the season. The sox aint going anywhere this year and those 2 pitchers would be an absolute steal.

It also would give Pedroia some playing time up in the bigs

to bad Nixon isnt healthy, because i think the tigers would do that if you threw in a healty Trot

they've been looking for a left handed OF for a while

Why the hell would the Tigers be interested in Loretta? I know he's hurt, but they have Polanco driving in runs for them when they need them most, he's also playing great defense, and to tell the truth I'd rather have Polanco than Loretta. Besides, now Pudge can play 2B apparently , and Infante fills in just fine. I don't see any reason for the Tigers to trade any of their pitching. They have the best pitching staff in the MLB, why the hell would they trade ANY of it away? Pitching is what wins championships...

That said, I'm not saying Arroyo should have stayed, and I'm hoping this thread doesn't turn into a WMP/Arroyo argument. Besides, the circumstances are different.

I agree but I would still look to go back to the Tigers and maybe get something less than a miner.

Agreed. The Red Sox should do what they can to deal Mark Loretta now before they don't get anything for him. I'd also be excited to see Dustin Pedroia come up for the final stretch and get some experience (worked out well for Papelbon last year).

If they take just anything for him, wouldn't the FO be officially signaling that they are throwing in the towel.

The team's play on the field is making it alot easier for them to throw in the towel and frankly its pretty much time to do so.

Good job by the FO. They spend $ 120+ Million on a team that raises the white flag by August 20th. What a disgrace.

Is it the FO fault that this team can't blow out bad teams and end up losing 5 of 6 to two stiff teams in Tampa and KC. If they can't be teams like that they have no business playing in October and should sell off the free agents to be.

This team has not been beating good teams all year long, so it is no surprise that when it got a little banged up that it had trouble with the bad teams. The answer is yes it is the FO's fault. They put this sorry group together. No one else did. They have to be held accountable.

Outside of the pitching not being totally healthy they still had enough offensive weapons to blow out the Kansas City's and the Tampa's of the world. There is no excuse to lose close games to those teams when they should be blowing those teams out. The season is over, just accept it. If you don't like what they are doing then don't spend the money going to fenway.

More people should do the same and send management a message.

If anything, sending a message to the management explaining how he feels is a sign of a great fan that cares.

And they will probably throw it in the trash.

Im sure, that when there are empty, albeit paid for seats, when the Royals and Orioles come into town on a cold September night.. the point will have been made to the FO..

I wouldn't consider trading Mark Loretta..."throwing in the towel"

This team needs a shake up. Dustin Pedroia is better on defense and a very good hitter. Its not a downgrade. He is a clubhouse guy who will show more emotion than Mark Loretta. He could give the team some life. At the same time we can get some pitching help by trading Mark Loretta......so lets review.

Neither the defense or offense is downgraded and we improve the pitching. The front office would get some bonus points from me if they could find a deal.

It's a monetary message. That's what gets through. When a company's product is inferior people stop buying it. The company either gets the message or they lose profits and sometimes their business. That's the message.

They won't because they are real fans and not bandwagon jumpers like yourself.
You mean 39 years of devoted fandom. You mean those bandwagon fans that go to Ft myers every year and travel to see the team in Philly, Miami, Baltimore, Boston and NY and spend thousands of dollars doing it. Fans that stayed with the team through the Haywood Sullivan- Buddy Leroux days and the Butch Hobson Crack-pipe years. If that's the type of bandwagon fan you are talking about, then I think you are more than a bit ridiculous. I am part of the fan base that kept this team going in the lean years, so how dare you, you little fan boy ball washer. As it pertains to me, I have heard enough from you telling me to root for the Yankees or calling me a bandwagon fan. When you have been a fan for 39 years from a little boy to a time when I have adult children maybe you can address me on an equal footing, but until then you have no right so cut the crap. Be more creative in countering my arguments or STFU. Telling me to root for the Yankees or calling me bandwagon is no longer an option. Okay.

I think the Red Sox need to get this done. I think they need to throw in money, I think they might have to throw in some lower level pitchers, Edgar Martinez or even David Murphy. I want this to get done, white flag or not at least its more productive than having a guy who is going to walk at the end of the year and it gets you pitching.

Nope, I would give them guys who don't figure into the plans. Why not? You get Miner who is a good young pitcher and you get to give Pedroia some on the job training for next season. That to me is invaluable. I'd do what it takes to get that done.

Especially if you can get Miner.

The Tigers have just traded for Cubs 2nd base/ss Neifi Perez, per rotoworld

Tigers acquired infielder Neifi Perez from the Cubs for catcher Chris Robinson.

The Tigers needed some infield insurance after losing Placido Polanco, but this was the worst possible choice. Perez, 33, was hitting .254/.266/.343 in 236 at-bats for the Cubs, and he's no longer the Gold Glove-caliber infielder he once was. Not only is he barely worthy of a roster spot these days, but he's due to make $2.5 million next season, making him a big negative even before considering that the Tigers gave up their third-round pick from 2005 to get him. GM Dave Dombrowski should have done better.
