I think Tito has gotta give Lester a chance to go beyond 5 innings. I know he shows some signs of fatigue, but I'll take a fatigued Lester over a fresh Taveraz or Seanz. I understand hes' got the kid on a short leash because of his age and lack of experience and what not...but he's gotta give him a little bit of space. Let him go out and try to throw 7. Obviously, if he's getting shelled, you gotta make the call, but lately, if you ask me, Terry's been going to get him WAY too early. If my memory serves me correctly, he doesn't even start an inning and get pulled usually. He's always sitting and they go right to the pen. Give him a chance to get himself into trouble before you go out and take him. Let's face it...the 'pen is going to get us into trouble night in and night out...you have nothing to lose by letting Lester try to go 7 or so.

You would think one could make up 2 games in 6 weeks after what we saw in 2004' date=' winning 4 games in 4 days.[/quote']

Especially considering we have 9 god damn games with them. If you want to give up you should at least wait till this first series is over. The majority of this board may look very stupid after this weekend.

A ton will be answered with this series in NY. If we win 3+ of those games, then I think we have a pretty good shot, but as of now, miss the playoffs.

Their entire season hinges on the Yankees sieres if they win the sieres they still have a chance if they loose they have a snowballs chance in hell

If the Sox do go 3-2 against the Yankees it means they gain one game in the standings overall. That would put the Sox .5 games behind the Yankees. There’s still way too much time left after that to draw any conclusions.

Worst case scenario, the Sox get swept by the Yankees, putting them 6.5 games behind. That would still leave 38 games left to play and even that deficit isn’t insurmountable.

My point: the series still isn’t the measuring stick for the Sox season. Despite the outcome there is still enough time left to make a run for the playoffs. I say that we wont know until at least a month from today which way it will all go. So everyone, please remain optimistic.

As far as pitching is concerned I think Tito was kind of lost without Dave Wallace. I don't think he entirely trusted Al Nipper, not the way he does Wallace and that reflected in some of the pitching moves Tito made or didn't make.

Now with Wallace back I think you're going to see this staff handled differently and for the better. Al Nippers a good guy. But, hes not a Dave Wallace. I wouldn't give up on this staff quite yet. I've got a feeling he (Wallace) might be able to turn our pitching problems around.

I got accused of quitting on the Sox for expressing my opinion that they will not get to the playoffs. That's just so ridiculous. Since Spring Training, I have watched the Red Sox play in 7 different cities and spent a nice chunk of change doing it. None of the fans have quit on the Red Sox the Sox management has. They left the 2006 team for dead. Getting no reinforcements at the All Star break had to impact the morale of the clubhouse and the manager who knows he can't win with this squad. Tony Massoroti says it well in today's Herald. I only hope the plan for 2007 works out. Frankly, I think this season got bungled up because there was so much in-fighting and power struggles in the FO and let's not forget Theo's hissy fit. Grow up Theo. You have your dream job, and everyone was showing you the love after '04. Stop being petty. Listen to LL who has more experience and who is twice as smart as you are. Most of all, just do your job better. This year's roster sucked-- too many old, old sick and injured men and children. Here's the link from Tony M's article.

He doesn't have much to work with.

This offseason we NEED to aquire starting pitching. We have one, ONE SP who you pretty much know, most of the time he is going to pitch a good ballgame and thats Schilling. Beckett isnt there yet, im pretty confident hes going to get better and be a #1 we can rely on in the future but its not happening this season. Wakefield is normally reliable too, but hes getting older and we cant count on him for much longer, or Schilling (since hes retiring after next year), or Wells, or mediocre crap we throw out in the back of the rotation (Johnson, Clement, Snyder, Gabbard, etc.). Lester is going to be good, but again hes too young and inexpirienced to be expected to be a #3 in a pennant race in his rookie year. So whether its trading for a SP, or overpaying for Zito, whatever we need SP and thats what is bringing this team down, we cant expect to play catch-up every single night and expect to win. That said im in still, but any more 7 run SP performances and it may be time to look towards next year. We NEED to win some games in this series. NEED to.

Retooling offseason is in order here
There's not much of a choice is there? Hopefully, they will do a better job. They have to do a better job. JH will not tolerate having the second biggest payroll and not making the playoffs for two straight years. Some one's head would roll. Maybe several heads.

This whole " We are keeping the future available" way of thinking has trickled down to the bench.. Tito plays for tommorow ...

I must be smoking some real quality crack to think that Tito will get canned..

Goodbye Clement (i dont care his contract is $10 million, Sox must/will get rid of this hack), Wells (ending a HOF career), Timlin (age 40, pitching like '05 Embree now), Foulke (mental state/? not worth hassle or $$), Seanez (enough said), Johnson (he's now in the witness protection program), Snyder (maybe a bad team like the Royals could take a chance... oh wait)

As of now there wont be that much acticity in the offense dept, unless Sox do go hard after Julio Lugo

Cool, forgot I can't say anything positive about the sox.

Won't happen again! I promise!

Right. And you sure meant it, just like you meant it when you said the 14-11 game showed that "Davis" Ortiz was the clear MVP after the Yankees MVP candidate hit the go-ahead bases-clearing 3-run double.

Not only are you a prick that only comes here to bait Sox fans, but you are a cowardly liar who can't fess up to your obvious sarcasm. You are a little, little pathetic person, and a shining example of why people can't stand Yankee fans. Good job keeping the stereotype alive.
